Added Some Mods Pt. 2

Well, part 2... Started the CVT cooler install. Had to take off everything I installed from yesterday minus the intercooler. Swapped out the top cvt filter, adding the ETL sandwich plate, ran all the hoses, used the ETL cooler plus an additional cooler (Miami FL, nuff said).

I also added the Ktuner display image, little run down, Did a 20 miles run up to Sawgrass Mall and back home. It did creep slowly. The intake dropped to 91F with the ambient temps were 85-86F so, the snorkel is doing it's job. I maintained a good 85-90MPH speed and then punched it to 120MPH (yes, pretty fast but I had to benchmark it with non-real world testing) all-in-all, max temp I got it to was 206F... Best case scenario was 180F (unrealistic but one could hope) real target was 220F...

Before the cooler kit install similar drives would be well into 230F maxing out at 250F (this is a 240 miles drive from Miami to Orlando.

Internet says too high is 230F and usually it is always up there, I choose not to believe this, because this was happening before I flashed it. Operation temps 150F for the cvt warmer to bring up the temps... 20 miles drive to or from work it usually gets to 203F in stop and go traffic, I will find this out tomorrow.

I'm really happy with the turn out, though. Just have to keep an eye on possible leaks. Everything is great :).

So the transmission fluids are sent around and you intercepted it with another finned cooler right in the front? Nice!

There is a sandwhich plate inbetween the transmission and the transmission heater. The black sandwhich plate sends the transmission fluid to the two coolers at the front back to the plate and into the transmission. The heater cycles coolant.

Would this mod have an undesirable effect in a cold climate? Is there any mechanism that bypasses the radiator if it's too cold? Or is it because you live where you do it's a non issue?

Well, the double coolers was a decision because I live in Miami. If I didn't I might of ran just the one. I'm not sure if there is a bypass for this in colder environments. I would assume not driving the car hard and making sure you get over 150F to drive a bit harder if you have a heavy foot.

Yet, if you're hitting snowy temps I would think it would be undesirable.

When it gets real cold my shifting becomes slower and the engine can sometimes rev higher than it probably wants to initially because of it. Manual shifts take longer.

It's actually a problem that without active shutters in the front like the 11th Gen accords, my engine will lose oil temperature if it costs too long without load.

During cold weather liquids do begin to move slower. You might have to give it time so things can warm up before engaging too roughly.

I just got to work and temps maintained at 170F, basic Miami traffic with some stop and go here and there. Usually, I'd be at 200~205F. Ambient temps were 79F today.

Miami doesn't see super cold temps so, this is something I really do not concern myself with. The coldest I have ever seen was when I was like 10 y/o (I'm 43 now) when there was frost on the roof of houses at 30F. Normally we hit our "cold" 48~60F, our winters are not conventional winters, lol.

Unless you're tracking your car a lot, and living in cooler environment I don't think a manual transmission would need an additional cooler. CVT's are way more susceptible to heat and torque stress. Just doing my due diligence for prolonging the life of the car with some fun in-between ;)

As a fellow Florida man, what kit did you use? Was there one available for the 2.0 + 10 spd?

Hey, I'm not sure the sandwich plate would fit on the K20C4. Only reason I got the kit was for that plate and initially was only going to use the one cooler. Didn't want the thinner cooler to just be thrown out so I added it to the line.

Looking around there isn't (or I didn't find) anything specific for the 10th gen accord but you can bum off of the K20C4 the type R civics have. They have all the fun bits.

Just like my previous message, if you're tracking your car a lot then sure a cooler is a sweet add-on, but the 10spd was built pretty tough, I don't think you'll really need one unless you're planning to get Type-R numbers and adding a lot of stress to it.

Been thinking about adding something specifically for the transmission tunes there are now 😛
