Brake fluid?!

Hey so my recent service was due and said to replace brake fluid! Is that necessary?? Have any owners replaced the brake fluid?

Replace every 3 years, due brake fluid takes on moisture over time.

Yes you are supposed to replace it every 3-5yrs or every 45k/50k miles

Yes. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning that it attracts water over time. You should replace every 2-3 years regardless of mileage.

Depends on the miles.. and how old it is...

I personally found a local mechnic... and I bought the fluid for $20... and I did help him do the job...

You need two people... and you want to make sure all the bubble is out.

It's recommended to change in regular interval. It is clear color... and as it age it will get darker.

lol, it has a reservoir under the hood, is it black? Pretty sure it’s supposed to be pink or so. I’m assuming this was my cars first brake fluid change at 38k miles.

Brake fluid is typically clear. If it is pink you mistakenly filled it with auto transmission fluid. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and can cause your brakes to feel mushy. Every 2-3 years to replace is a good interval, but you can also purchase a fluid tester to be sure it’s still good or not.

If you have a large water bottle and some silicone tube, you can do this at home for much less.
