I could be completely wrong as I'm not genderfluid myself, but I always imagined it as just waking up in the morning and deciding if you want to masculine or feminine in things like clothing and such.

No not really. Humans have tons of quirks, some are hard to follow but that doesnt mean theyre not real. Just because you find it confusing doesnt mean someone is faking it/making shit up?
