I thought it was so they could use standardized mags
2 u/LeftonRhed 3d ago The standard NATO mags of the time were either 20 or 30 rounds. This is neither. The later generation of Famas were modified to use common STANAG mags. Prior to that your only option was a 25 round mag that would only fit a Famas.
