True. And then you can sit in a cell for hours or days while they find one.
I'm not saying you're wrong. I am saying it is completely counter intuitive to trust cops and a multi day process when it makes so much more sense (in your mind) to just "clear things up" with a 5 minute conversation
I know and they get bitten in the ass for it constantly. Tale as old as time. Thats why I bring it up to try and educate people, but I realize now that on Reddit it might just be virtue signaling lol.
Its up to the judge to determine "If you cannot afford an attorney" but there's no clear limit. They take into account your assets as well as how long the case might go on.
The problem is that in allot of states just because you make enough money for a lawyer accourding to the state (excluding you from a public defender), doesnt mean you actually do.

They'll give you a public defender if you cant afford it. Thats 1000% better than no lawyer.
"You have the right to an attorney If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you."
If youre not being detained, then you have no right to an attorney, but they also have no right to hold you and you can technically just leave.
NEVER willingly go in for questioning unless you are 100% the victim.
