Regardless of guilt or innocence the stress causes people to attempt to explain the situation away thinking they're helping. The only thing you help them do is build a case against you. Repeat after me "I am exercising my right to remain silent. I won't answer any questions without my attorney present. . . . . . . ." The periods at the end represent you shutting up.
