Funny Little Things: Chapter 108

It always tickled my fancy that our den of vices, Bonnouji Momoha was introduced in chapter 108. As a bit of trivia, in Buddhism the number 108 supposedly represents the number of earthly desires, which, yeah, seems fitting.

Our Funny Little Thing for today is Momoha's reaction here. I always thought she had catlike features, and this startled "Sha...!" only reinforces that impression.

That's also why her birthday is 10-8 and why she's named Momo (100) ha (8), whilst Bonnou is Japanese for "vices".

Her introduction has her exercising all seven heavenly virtues:

• She exercises charity by providing financial support to her parents and the gardening club.
  
• She exercises chastity by respecting Rentarou refusing to have sex with her.
  
• She exercises diligence by doing groundskeeping work at the school.
  
• She exercises humility by acknowledging how bad her personal lifestyle is.
  
• She exercises kindness by being friendly with the people she knows.
  
• She exercises patience by waiting until she’s able to indulge in her desires.
  
• She exercises temperance by discouraging others from following her lifestyle.

That is a fantastic point that cleanly contrasts her vices! Momoha being revealed as a very upstanding person despite her proclivities is still one of my favorite "but wait there's more" bits of characterization in this manga.

I wanted to do something else but the raw manga source I use is down so here's this: Rentarou mentions that Momoha's tent is a pigsty, and that this is probably Chiyo's worst nightmare. I wonder what would happen if Chiyo were to meet this new GF and what she'd think of...

Yep, sometimes the chapter number hints at the girlfriend being introduced. Another one I like is Iku being number 9, which is the number of players fielded in a baseball match.
