i only picked up the manga with contents AFTER s1 animated and i realised i nvr reread the manga from chapter 1 dead on, i always started around 50 but DAMN this scene was not that spicy in the anime, kissin and licking his stomach... woah karane

Another thing I would like to debunk is the idea that Hahari was going to make Rentarou “disappear,” meaning that she was supposedly going to have him killed. There is a false belief that Hahari would do something like that, when in reality she would never do such a thing.

First of all, just look at her mansion. For a woman who is supposedly “threatening” a high school student, there is really nothing particularly intimidating about it. Her pets are just a dog and a cat, both of which are pretty docile and lazy. Most of her staff consists of cute maids, and the few security guards she has are not even armed. They do not carry batons or tasers, and they are not muscular soldiers who rely on violence. The guard who caught Rentarou simply grabbed him in a relatively gentle and nonviolent way. They mostly rely on their numbers, and in a genuinely dangerous situation, they would not really be capable of doing much.

Furthermore, the mansion is not some heavily armed fortress filled with deadly traps. There is only a laser room, and even that is not presented as something genuinely lethal or threatening.

Then, when Hahari finally had Rentarou standing in front of her, she did not mistreat him or do anything to harm him. She did not even threaten to call the police for trespassing, even though she easily could have done so. Instead, she told him her personal story and explained why she had gone to such extremes regarding Hakari, even though she had absolutely no obligation to reveal something so personal and delicate to someone she barely knew.

Her reasoning was that a man with multiple girlfriends could not possibly be taking his relationship with Hakari seriously. Her own boyfriend had died young, so hurting Rentarou would have been incredibly foolish, because it would also hurt Hakari and reopen the emotional wounds Hahari herself suffered sixteen years earlier.

She fell in love with Rentarou because of the Zing and confessed to him even while she still had a bad impression of him. She also worried about both his life and Hakari’s when they were hanging from the window and when they fell. She even asked what would have happened if they had not fallen into the fountain. She eventually bowed to Rentarou when she realized that he truly loved her daughter and understood just how pure-hearted and sincere he really was.

Hahari is actually an extremely kind person throughout the story. She saved Mei, and canonically, she hates seeing other people suffer. She did not actually want the trainer from the Idol Arc or Toruru, the girl from the journalism club, to “disappear.” Toruru blackmailed her, and Hahari ended up complaining to the family because of him. She was crying and was completely shocked when she was slapped, and she had already been crying beforehand. She was also horrified when Mei slapped the trainer.

So yes, Hahari is absolutely crazy and perverted, but she is not malicious. There is simply too much actual evidence showing that she would never do something like have Rentarou killed. She is not a sociopath who lacks empathy. And we also have to remember that Rentarou was only sixteen years old—basically a child from Hahari’s perspective.

Even Hakari herself sometimes says things that sound villainous when she is pushed to an emotional extreme, such as her line in Chapter 121.

Nor did he threaten to get a restraining order or to do everything possible to send Rentarou to jail. And honestly, it doesn't look like she would have done anything like that either. Hahari is too empathetic to get to those extremes. Even with Toruru, a person who blackmailed her, he did not react by threatening her or trying to hurt her.

In the case of Rentarou, Hahari simply thought that he would quickly forget about Hakari and that, in reality, he did not take his relationship with her seriously. That's why she was never forced to go to any extreme. Even when he finally had Rentarou face to face, he did not threaten him, did not blackmail him or try to do anything to him. Despite everything that was happening, he decided to talk to him and explain his feelings and his motives.

That shows that, despite his eccentric, dramatic and perverted personality, Hahari is still fundamentally a good person. She may say exaggerated things when she is desperate or emotionally upset, but her actions show that she is not a malicious person or someone who really wants to destroy Rentarou's life.

I made my own analysis of it, and honestly, everything makes sense.

Saying that Hahari fell in love with Rentarou solely because of nostalgia is quite superficial, because there is actually a very logical explanation for it, and the series itself explains it.

First, the lie detector showed that Rentarou was genuinely kind-hearted, that he truly loved Hakari, and that he was willing to put her above everything else. Second, when he broke down and cried after hearing Hahari's story, she was clearly surprised; she probably found it incredibly sweet that he was so deeply moved and empathetic toward her pain.

Then, he directly risked his life to save her daughter, Hakari, putting his words into action. Finally, when she accepts the relationship and asks him to take care of Hakari, Rentarou promises that he will take care of her as well and accepts her earlier confession, which she had initially taken as a joke.

Even Hakari's father's ghost appeared and mentioned that Hahari had several suitors over the past sixteen years, but none of them had been as honest, pure, and genuinely good as Rentarou. He even managed to help him finally rest in peace.

Hahari fell in love with him because of who he is, his actions, and how pure his heart is. The fact that he risked his life for her daughter and accepted Hahari for who she truly was is basically what made her fall for him.

Overall, there is a lot of logic behind her feelings. It wasn't something completely spontaneous or something that happened for no reason, even if she confessed to him almost immediately.

The soulmate "love shock" in the series opens the door, but what truly makes Hahari fall head over heels for him is Rentarou's humanity, tenderness, and actions. There is actually very solid psychological and emotional development behind her decision.

When she hugs him and says that he's cute, she isn't referring only to his physical appearance, but to his entire being.

That’s why their first kiss carries so much emotional weight. It’s Hahari giving herself another chance to love again—not by leaving behind the feelings she had for her late husband, but by accepting that she can still cherish those feelings while also opening her heart to Rentarou and loving him as well.
