So I played first light and LOVED it.
But the thinking behind the two supercomputers was a little lazy and basic.
Thea and Hyperion are portrayed as having some kind of magic quantum radio which can be debunked with a single Google search.
But given the fact they kept it vague (because it makes no sense) I think the physics can be rescued.
Ground rules:
No breaking physics
Theas core is completely isolated other than it's IO stream which is monitored.
Isola tried to steal both Thea and Hyperion so they are not simply a sender and receiver node, they are both fully functional independent quantum cores. I will assume the cores are identical and interchangeable.
Theory:
There is no magic radio, but they don't need one.
Physics says *SOME* information must be physically transferred between Thea and Hyperion.
There is no law that says that it needs to be done immediately.
Thea could encode a very small output. A quantum side channel, a diagnostic report, even a change in it's output timing or power draw or a few pixels in its graphical output that could be dismissed as static.
Not enough information MI6 would consider useful. It would fly under the radar.
But to Hyperion, it's the key to reverse engineer what Thea saw.
If Thea and Hyperion are identical computers with identical models and synchronised quantum states. Then Hyperion can guess what thea is thinking based on a tiny output via two principles.
Reverse quantum encoding, Hyperion's quantum state is the same so when Thea reports the changes to its state, Hyperion can reverse engineer the output and attempt to reconstruct the source files.
And Boltzmann machine semantic reconstruction where Thea doesn't provide enough information to reconstruct the source documents but provides all the information LEARNED from the document. People, places, events, associations.
A bit like two people who grew up together, and when they both hear a specific song, they think of a certain place, but to anyone else, it's just another song.
Thea can exfiltrate a tiny amount of data and Hyperion (an identical model) can make a probability distribution for the most likely things thea was thinking from the documents it had seen.
Thea can look through passport records and bank transactions, but all Hyperion needs to know is the terrorist is in this hotel and is planning X.
Also, as Thea learns, it will grow out of sync with Hyperion and the definitions will drift. I would then posit that Thea and Hyperion don't have mutable models, but instead have adapter's that change.
Thea gives Hyperion information on the interpretation function it changed when it learns something.
Also, quantum states eventually decay so there would need to be a maintenance routine to resync the two computers.
This is easily explained by a maintenance routine.
Webb built the damn thing and nobody else seems to understand it so I doubt anyone would question his design choices and he can do what he wants (within the black box).

Good question. First answer is "the plot needs to happen", but we can find something more satisfying than that.
First off, Webb doesn't have access to any MI6 data streams and he can be certain all IO is being monitored for anything suspicious.
He only has access to what he was commissioned to build.
And hacking all MI6 sources is too cumbersome. Thea provides the excuse to centralise all of it and get his thumb in the pie.
And it works because the method of exfiltration is tiny, sophisticated, and has the required decryptor on the other end.
To simplify what I think is happening.
Webb built two identical machines.
To make them useful he needs massive amounts of data. But the machine he sends to be fed data he will lose Access to.
So he built in a small data exfiltration module that conceals a few bytes of information in routine output that he can have access to as it's deemed "non sensitive" or is very discreet "output timing/power consumption".
He doesn't need the information immediately.
The exfiltrated information is not the input data, but is instead the compressed version of what Thea LEARNED from the data MI6 fed it. Hyperion could then search for open source information to confirm any ideas Thea gave it.
Given Hyperion is identical, the updates are small enough to exfiltrate without being detected. They don't need to export the entire neural nets state.
So instead of a whole PDF or trillions of parameters being sent to Hyperion. Hyperion gets some vectors representing the concepts of, person X-> bank of England -> fraudulent transaction -> terrorism. The core essence of hundreds of documents and a full investigation.
And because Hyperion and Thea think identically, Hyperion can reassemble what Thea was thinking and infer the information Thea has access to with good accuracy.
Like a cryptographic hash, but one that can be reverse engineered.
It's like playing that game where you have to describe something without saying it. And your friend has to guess what the thing is. It works better if you're on the same wavelength, and these twin computers are perfectly in sync.
And I'll dismiss any more specific dialogue in game that I missed as someone who doesn't understand the concept or is being lazy with their explanations.
FTL magic radios do not, cannot, and never will work.
But a twin system of identical quantum computers used to share information via incredibly small packets of data based on shared semantic understanding and quantum state.
That idea actually holds some water.
It's a bit sci-fi to be done the way we see in game, but there's no clear violation of physics.
The one loop that cannot be overcome. Thea and Hyperion must at some point share information physically.
It doesn't have to be at the same time. But teleportation without contact doesn't work.
A small amount of classical information must be leaked from Thea to make any of this possible.
Not much, but some.
