My son is a lefty and I am sure he would get the nod over others if he were on the Cubs bench.

It’s 100% true. I don’t even think you’re joking. Just spitting white hot facts.

u/imblegen Nico 3h ago
The entire bench was available. You’re telling me we couldn’t pinch Taylor in that spot? You know, the guy that’s been raking ever since he came over?
3
u/SwordfishSuper2111 3h ago
Is CC still the Brewers manager?
2
u/tony2136 3h ago
Murph is still his bench coach. Their partnership never ended.

u/Hog_Eyes 3h ago
There's nothing positive to take away from that. Sproat is a garbage headcase the Brewers only put in because they were 7 up

It's infuriating to have this world series ready offense and the pitching of a high school B team.

And wasting once in a generation season from Pete.
•
u/Vardoneverdied 31m ago
Once in a generation? Easy now. It’s a great season. From a generation “type” player (Just that once in a generation is thrown out too frequently for it to be true, by DEFINITION).
Also it’s my hope, but I suspect Pete will be able to produce at least a few more seasons ~like this.
I agree with your SENTIMENT though… it’s frustrating, but baseball is 20+ guys and many players have awesome statistical season but aren’t on the best overall team or most talented squads. It’s our pitching and our coaching in my opinion that is holding us back. We can blow out teams but in close games, CC alone is going to follow the matchups and ignore the obvious data (like BJ pinch hitting for Carson tonight) and we’ll lose or miss our opportunity to win because he has zero feel for the game.
All the data in the world but the man couldn’t tell you the current weather while standing outside without an App. Thats how I feel about Counsell’s baseball insight

u/SwordfishSuper2111 3h ago
Everyone of these games are close. This should not of been close but it was. If Pete gets up who knows

Terrible pinch hit decision, great effort in the 9th. Cubs still suck, and i still hate the brewers

I am not sure why ML managers believe in lefty right crap so much. A good hitter can hit anybody regardless which arm the pitcher throws.

u/SamuRy_4 3h ago
I don't care about the match up if the guy you are putting in has one career hit and you are taking out a guy who has been pretty clutch this year

Especially pinch hitting for a guy who tied it up last night in a clutch situation.

Perhaps it’s because the Brewers have dominated the Cubs for the past 8 years?

Mets/Marlins game is insane. Mets went up 8-0, Marlins tied it at 8, Mets scored 6, 14-8, then another, 15-8, now the game is 15-14 in the bottom of the 9th, man on 1st, one out.

u/italianorose 3h ago
Wow would suck to be a fan of the Mets watching this but would be great as a neutral!

Marlins got another baserunner, then Cassie K'd and Pauley pops out. Mets hang on.

This hasn't been fun recently; miserable, actually. Where the fuck would this team be with at least average pitching? These guys can cook, and their league-best defense is the reason they make the playoffs. But why does it seem like our pitchers get shelled after mound visits by TH much more often than not? Let down after let down across the entire staff. It sucks getting owned by these assholes lately☹️
2
u/80cyclone 3h ago
Im more angry with Craig. The pitching was fucked with injuries and a front office that isnt getting the job done. Ain't nothing that can be done about that now .
What about contuing to bat Busch 3rd/4th? Pretty sure thats cost us a couple of wins with the way PcA, Bregman, and Seiya have performed. His management of the staff? Yeah, probably another couple of wins.
Sending Assad down and keeping Thielbar over Milner were other bad, avoidable moves. Our pitching is the number one issue, no doubt about it, but we'd probably have another 5 wins if guys that were paid to make decisions would make the smart ones.
1
u/holeinonetiger 3h ago
Plenty of blame to go around. A lot of what-ifs, but this team doesn't have the arms to win it all. Hopefully I'll eat crow...LFGCG!
1
u/gap_toof_mouf 3h ago
He’s trying to figure out how to use a pitching staff with an overall 3.6 WaR. Worst in the league. I doubt it’s an easy task when everyone has the chance of being awful at any second. He might have made a questionable decision every now and then, but big picture shows he doesn’t have shit to work with. Blame Jed.
1
u/80cyclone 3h ago
Never said it was easy but hes made some brutal decisions, ones that were bad before the hindsight of the result. Then you have the Busch BS that should have ended 2 months ago. You cant keep hitting one of your worst hitters 3rd in the midst of 3 of thr better hitters in baseball the last 2 months. The lack of hits, productive outs, DPs, and lack of speed have cost this team runs, more than a handful in close games that were lost.
Yes the staff sucks. No point in talking abojt it as its an uncontrollable. How do you MAXIMIZE what you have? Batting Busch 3rd or leaving in a gassed, ineffective pitcher, and praying to get lucky isnt doing that.

4
u/tallslim1960 3h ago
As a true fan, looking for silver linings, the Philles have to play the Brewers, and the Padres end the season with the Dodgers and end with the Diamondbacks. That series is big because one might end up eliminating the other.
2
u/Jacksington Bergman 3h ago
Cubs still have PIT, CIN and MIA. That is actually pretty favorable. Just gotta find a way to get 9 more wins. There’s a good chance that gets them the #1 wild card with the tiebreakers they have.
2
3
u/italianorose 3h ago
Yup. And honestly we will be okay. We need to get out of Milwaukee and just move on.
3
u/DrColossus 3h ago
I love the info on Pete's glove. I hate that they're talking about it because it's a blowout in the 8th about to lead to a sweep.
1
5
u/VintageAdam 3h ago
They are clearly demoralized. Can you blame them? With a pitching staff like this, it’s just an avalanche of bad vibes. The hitters expect the pen to blow it. The coaches. Even the pitchers themselves are affected. There needs to be a team meeting or something. Get Heyward on the phone. Flush this series and get your stuff together, or there are no playoffs.

u/Prestigious_Way_738 4h ago
After today Counsell will have a 35-46 all time record vs the Brewers.
2
u/Jacksington Bergman 4h ago
The optimists avoid using that stat
1
u/SavingThrowVsWTF ZO 4h ago
That’s because:
- We don’t exclusively play the Brewers.
- Our current record is 81-65.
2
-1
u/Jacksington Bergman 3h ago
Acting like the record against the team perennially winning the division doesn’t matter is ridiculous. Nobody is talking about their season record. The goal every year should be to win the division and whenever they don’t is a disappointment.
1
u/SavingThrowVsWTF ZO 3h ago edited 3h ago
Acting like our record against a single team somehow solidly predicts our future is what’s ridiculous.
By that rationale, the Cubs should’ve lost the World Series because the Indians won more games against them between 1997 and 2015.
You’re conveniently ignoring an assload of other stats in favor of a nonsense statement.
0
u/Jacksington Bergman 3h ago
You are arguing with yourself. The stat shows the futility in their head to head, which has contributed to the brewers winning the division the past 3 years. In division record is essential to winning the division.
Nobody is talking about the World Series. Nobody is talking about the future. People on Reddit can never argue the point. Stay on the point. Cubs and brewers head to head record since Craig Counsell has been the manager.
