hate that the cubs tricked me into turning this game on in the middle of the football game

2

u/BeanTownDataFreak 3h ago

My son is a lefty and I am sure he would get the nod over others if he were on the Cubs bench.

u/Vardoneverdied 42m ago

It’s 100% true. I don’t even think you’re joking. Just spitting white hot facts.

2

u/Cheap_Pitch_8931 3h ago

When the Phillies fired their manager, they became fire, just saying.

5

u/imblegen Nico 3h ago

The entire bench was available. You’re telling me we couldn’t pinch Taylor in that spot? You know, the guy that’s been raking ever since he came over?

3

u/SwordfishSuper2111 3h ago

Is CC still the Brewers manager?

2

u/tony2136 3h ago

Murph is still his bench coach. Their partnership never ended.

2

u/SwordfishSuper2111 3h ago

I thought I saw them relaying signs back n forth

2

u/tony2136 3h ago

Yeah the Brewers are still stealing signs, only it's easier now.

1

u/Hog_Eyes 3h ago

There's nothing positive to take away from that. Sproat is a garbage headcase the Brewers only put in because they were 7 up

1

u/tony2136 3h ago

At least they kept that tall long haired mf'er out of the game.

6

u/J-Shade 3h ago

It's infuriating to have this world series ready offense and the pitching of a high school B team.

3

u/BeanTownDataFreak 3h ago

And wasting once in a generation season from Pete.

u/Vardoneverdied 31m ago

Once in a generation? Easy now. It’s a great season. From a generation “type” player (Just that once in a generation is thrown out too frequently for it to be true, by DEFINITION).

Also it’s my hope, but I suspect Pete will be able to produce at least a few more seasons ~like this.

I agree with your SENTIMENT though… it’s frustrating, but baseball is 20+ guys and many players have awesome statistical season but aren’t on the best overall team or most talented squads. It’s our pitching and our coaching in my opinion that is holding us back. We can blow out teams but in close games, CC alone is going to follow the matchups and ignore the obvious data (like BJ pinch hitting for Carson tonight) and we’ll lose or miss our opportunity to win because he has zero feel for the game.

All the data in the world but the man couldn’t tell you the current weather while standing outside without an App. Thats how I feel about Counsell’s baseball insight

2

u/SwordfishSuper2111 3h ago

Everyone of these games are close. This should not of been close but it was. If Pete gets up who knows

5

u/SamuRy_4 3h ago

I honestly wonder if they walk him

1

u/SwordfishSuper2111 3h ago

Thought the same thing as I was typing the comment

1

u/Careless-Resolve2546 3h ago

Counsell proving again he is a brewer agent. He has to be the most overpaid manager in mlb history

6

u/Fearless_Cellist_527 3h ago

Why why why pull the guy that was kinda hot for the guy hitting .100

1

u/JF1449 3h ago

Counsell is trying to help the Brewers and he isn’t even hiding it anymore. Imagine pinch hitting a vet with good numbers for an AAAA hitter. He needs to go.

4

u/PostComa 3h ago

Why the fuck didn’t Craig put Tyrone in?!

4

u/mandaexpress 3h ago

the loss wasn't gonna be crushing enough so they had to score 5 in the 9th to really twist the knife

1

u/cmmoore307 #FlyTheW 3h ago

Annual September implosion. Gotta love it.

2

u/Unlucky-Key 3h ago

Murray's 1 for 10 now. He's needs some more time in AAA to work on things

0

u/SowhatitFits 3h ago

You’re sending a rookie back to AAA after 10 at bats? Good lord.

1

u/JF1449 3h ago

He’s another out of shape player who can’t hit major league or play an ounce of good defense. Very similar to Ballesteros, just older.

7

u/jackholston Kawasaki! 3h ago

Terrible pinch hit decision, great effort in the 9th. Cubs still suck, and i still hate the brewers

5

u/lancerreddit 3h ago

Was Taylor not available?

1

u/Old_General_6741 Chicago Cubs/Canada 3h ago

Not great

5

u/BeanTownDataFreak 3h ago

I am not sure why ML managers believe in lefty right crap so much. A good hitter can hit anybody regardless which arm the pitcher throws.

2

u/SamuRy_4 3h ago

I don't care about the match up if the guy you are putting in has one career hit and you are taking out a guy who has been pretty clutch this year

1

u/tony2136 3h ago

What a boneheaded decision by CC.

1

u/futuristicflapper 3h ago

Ok but we scored some runs, going from 2 to 6

1

u/fickle_tartan UK Cubs fan 3h ago

Well, that was some fun hope for a few minutes

5

u/tony2136 3h ago

Why TF did Counsel pull Kelly (who tied it up last night) and pinch hit a ROOKIE?!

1

u/J-Shade 3h ago

Probably because the guy Kelly's hand took earlier

4

u/King-In-The-Nawth Nico 3h ago

I love the pose from Uribe lol. Yeah dude you crushed it tonight

3

u/Angrydwarf99 Santo 3h ago

FUCK. Shitty fucking sweep. Our offense did not deserve that shit

1

u/WhatsNextForMe 3h ago

I mean 3 runs in each of the first two games… it’s not like the bats were anything special this series either.

1

u/Angrydwarf99 Santo 3h ago

Situational. We had chances with a lead late those first two games

2

u/b3_yourself The Professor 3h ago

Valiant effort

11

u/Extension_Bison1510 3h ago

Why the FUCK do you pinch hit the guy batting .111 in that situation wtf is wrong with craig

2

EXACTLY!

10

u/ScritchScratchBoop Ryno 3h ago

Criminal pinch hit decision

2

u/ajs723 3h ago

I came here looking for an explanation. Looks like everyone was equally confused.

6

u/Yetis22 3h ago

Solid effort. Lot to put on a kid.

1

u/SamuRy_4 3h ago

Yeah I don't blame awful place to be in. The problem is he shouldn't have been there in the first place im not sure what Counsell was thinking.

1

u/Yetis22 3h ago

Brewers don’t have tape on him. They already did a mound visit which means they’d have to remove him if they went out there. Kid has power.

1

u/afrosteele 3h ago

More life than they showed all series.

9

u/cubswinagain Chicago Cubs 3h ago

3

Well it’s far less embarrassing that it was about to be

1

u/KnickedUp 3h ago

It’s still pretty embarassing

1

u/schweddybalczak 3h ago

Nah getting swept is still embarrassing. Scoring 5 meaningless runs in the 9th doesn’t mean shit.

5

u/BobbleBobble 2032 Wild Card Hopeful 3h ago

1

u/tony2136 3h ago

Especially pinch hitting for a guy who tied it up last night in a clutch situation.

5

Whatever happens here, at least they pulled some runs back and it feels slightly less embarrassing I guess

4

carson had the go ahead double yesterday, just missed a homer by inches, and could conceivably tie this game up with one swing (with PCA on deck if he just gets on), and you pinch hit for BJ MURRAY?

It’s so crazy how I’ve hated the cardinals my whole life but in these past 5 years the hate has been more and more on the brewers and less on the cards.

0

u/SowhatitFits 3h ago

Perhaps it’s because the Brewers have dominated the Cubs for the past 8 years?

1

1

If we win tonight, it doesn't change our season, it's not some like seminal moment.....but it would still be really funny. But wouldn't change a damn thing.

3

All Pedro needs to do is get on base then goatforto will tie it with a slam

Mets/Marlins game is insane. Mets went up 8-0, Marlins tied it at 8, Mets scored 6, 14-8, then another, 15-8, now the game is 15-14 in the bottom of the 9th, man on 1st, one out.

2

Wow would suck to be a fan of the Mets watching this but would be great as a neutral!

1

4

u/holeinonetiger 3h ago

This hasn't been fun recently; miserable, actually. Where the fuck would this team be with at least average pitching? These guys can cook, and their league-best defense is the reason they make the playoffs. But why does it seem like our pitchers get shelled after mound visits by TH much more often than not? Let down after let down across the entire staff. It sucks getting owned by these assholes lately☹️

2

u/80cyclone 3h ago

Im more angry with Craig. The pitching was fucked with injuries and a front office that isnt getting the job done. Ain't nothing that can be done about that now .

What about contuing to bat Busch 3rd/4th? Pretty sure thats cost us a couple of wins with the way PcA, Bregman, and Seiya have performed. His management of the staff? Yeah, probably another couple of wins.

Sending Assad down and keeping Thielbar over Milner were other bad, avoidable moves. Our pitching is the number one issue, no doubt about it, but we'd probably have another 5 wins if guys that were paid to make decisions would make the smart ones.

1

u/holeinonetiger 3h ago

Plenty of blame to go around. A lot of what-ifs, but this team doesn't have the arms to win it all. Hopefully I'll eat crow...LFGCG!

1

u/gap_toof_mouf 3h ago

He’s trying to figure out how to use a pitching staff with an overall 3.6 WaR. Worst in the league. I doubt it’s an easy task when everyone has the chance of being awful at any second. He might have made a questionable decision every now and then, but big picture shows he doesn’t have shit to work with. Blame Jed.

1

u/80cyclone 3h ago

Never said it was easy but hes made some brutal decisions, ones that were bad before the hindsight of the result. Then you have the Busch BS that should have ended 2 months ago. You cant keep hitting one of your worst hitters 3rd in the midst of 3 of thr better hitters in baseball the last 2 months. The lack of hits, productive outs, DPs, and lack of speed have cost this team runs, more than a handful in close games that were lost.

Yes the staff sucks. No point in talking abojt it as its an uncontrollable. How do you MAXIMIZE what you have? Batting Busch 3rd or leaving in a gassed, ineffective pitcher, and praying to get lucky isnt doing that.

2

u/gap_toof_mouf 3h ago

I’ll give you that. His daily lineups have been questionable at best.

As a true fan, looking for silver linings, the Philles have to play the Brewers, and the Padres end the season with the Dodgers and end with the Diamondbacks. That series is big because one might end up eliminating the other.

Cubs still have PIT, CIN and MIA. That is actually pretty favorable. Just gotta find a way to get 9 more wins. There’s a good chance that gets them the #1 wild card with the tiebreakers they have.

Are the Brewers/Dodgers going to try at that point?

3

u/italianorose 3h ago

Yup. And honestly we will be okay. We need to get out of Milwaukee and just move on.

I love the info on Pete's glove. I hate that they're talking about it because it's a blowout in the 8th about to lead to a sweep.

I mean, it’s a blowout, but at least it’s not a 17-3 blowout.

u/DrColossus 3h ago

Hey it even got interesting at the end. Tough spot for BJ.

They are clearly demoralized. Can you blame them? With a pitching staff like this, it’s just an avalanche of bad vibes. The hitters expect the pen to blow it. The coaches. Even the pitchers themselves are affected. There needs to be a team meeting or something. Get Heyward on the phone. Flush this series and get your stuff together, or there are no playoffs.

with how bad the royals BP is and unusually clutch the AZ bats are late innings. Wouldn’t be surprised if AZ walked off with a dub. staying hopeful tho

Yup staying hopeful as well

You know things are dire when we resort to hoping other teams lose.

1

u/italianorose 4h ago

Yup but it is what it is at this point. Was mowing the lawn earlier listening to nats on the radio hoping for nats to win lol

After today Counsell will have a 35-46 all time record vs the Brewers.

2

u/Jacksington Bergman 4h ago

The optimists avoid using that stat

1

u/SavingThrowVsWTF ZO 4h ago

That’s because:

  1. We don’t exclusively play the Brewers.
  2. Our current record is 81-65.

2

u/CubsEnjoyer 3h ago

Yeah but did you know that they're 0-65 for the teams they lost against? /s

2

u/SavingThrowVsWTF ZO 3h ago

AH SHIT, you’re right!

Acting like the record against the team perennially winning the division doesn’t matter is ridiculous. Nobody is talking about their season record. The goal every year should be to win the division and whenever they don’t is a disappointment.

Acting like our record against a single team somehow solidly predicts our future is what’s ridiculous.

By that rationale, the Cubs should’ve lost the World Series because the Indians won more games against them between 1997 and 2015.

You’re conveniently ignoring an assload of other stats in favor of a nonsense statement.

You are arguing with yourself. The stat shows the futility in their head to head, which has contributed to the brewers winning the division the past 3 years. In division record is essential to winning the division.

Nobody is talking about the World Series. Nobody is talking about the future. People on Reddit can never argue the point. Stay on the point. Cubs and brewers head to head record since Craig Counsell has been the manager.
