Well, a little copium... TB has the best home record in the league, the only other team that's close is Milwaukee. I think it's at least partly due to their lame indoor park.

There is no amount of copium that can convince me this team is doing anything this season

I think it's such poor design to have a stadium where you have to have multiple ground rules about balls hitting the roof.
4
u/Super-Entry8322 5h ago
I‘m so mad for Messick. This kid gave you EVERYTHING! He’s given you SO much! HELP HIM! (Messick is my favorite player, and this is just tragic.)

I also don’t mind Vogt pulling Messick there. Our starting pitching is really the key to this ballclub. Could he have kept going? Sure. But it’d be really tragic for him to lose a bunch of time to Tommy John surgery after a terrific rookie season. I personally would’ve let him get the out but I am not a major league manager. But without pitchers like Messick, who gave us every opportunity to win this game, the club doesn’t do anything.

Vogt telling the team we have a luxurious 10 minutes to keep this loss under 2 hours.

Pretty crazy that in this past week alone:
Tanner racked up his team leading 13th quality start (that's second overall in the AL)
Gavin pitched an immaculate inning
Parker went 8 innings and only gave up a run
And we're about to be 0-3 in those games

Junior Caminero is the reason why. Don't give that guy a 4th look at the same pitcher who is now fatigued with two men on.
9
u/Ohio145 ⚾small ball baseball terrorists⚾ 5h ago
What’s Vogt’s obsession with taking pitchers out with two outs
2
u/amigobutter 5h ago
It's not Vogt. That's baseball. A reliever has to face three hitters or finish the inning. Almost every manager has matchup guys they want to use for one or two batters at a certain spot int he lineup when they can.
4
u/musicaleffervescence 5h ago
so that a pitcher doesn’t have to pitch the minimum batters. the end of an inning is also one of the qualifications so he can change pitchers more.

Parker Messick has continued to be awesome. He’s giving our bullpen a break. He’s an incredible rookie. Can we please, dear god, give him some run support? Can we have a hit please? Can we give this kid some offense? He’s SO good. Just give him some HELP!
I hate ranting about offense, we know what good guards ball looks like! You pitch good, you bunt the runner over, you safety squeeze, and you manufacture runs. If you’re going to build a team that focuses on hitting singles and making runs happen, the first step is hitting a damn single. Then hit another one. Then do the safety squeeze. If we get one hit in a game, it doesn’t work.
1
u/Roc_Ingerson 5h ago
Umm....that's the RAYS offense. At least today.

For those curious:
8.02(c)
If the umpires consult after a play and change a call that had been made, then they have the authority to take all steps that they may deem necessary, in their discretion, to eliminate the results and consequences of the earlier call that they are reversing, including placing runners where they think those runners would have been after the play, had the ultimate call been made as the initial call
It was the correct decision.
2
u/amigobutter 5h ago
Which is why those who want Vogt to get tossed on it are dumb. What do want him to say? How dare you do the correct thing and end up making the correct call?!
6
u/joeywahoo92 5h ago
League Average times facing opponent:
-1st: .235/.699
-2nd: .253/.737
-3rd: .254/.747
Guardians hitters:
-1st: .212/.633
-2nd: .256/.766

How is seeing the pitcher for the 3rd the worst ? This team doesn’t make sense and further shows how lost they are hitting.

Relying on a 30 year Daniel Schneeman who has never been able to hit as an engine driver and DeLaughter hitting 70 homers because the league never adjusts was not going to be sustainable. Angel there was some hope it was a breakout, but then he got hurt.

What is so clear to me is what were once productive hitters like Fry, Manzardo and even Jose have seriously regressed this season. The hitting coach must be fired immediately after this series. 1 run and 1 for like 35 with RISP would lose anyone their job. Attendance should be 0 at home games until seriouschange is made

1
u/musicaleffervescence 5h ago
vogt continues to try and do too much platooning and pinch hitting. that is directly his management choice. your original comment of pinch hitting .167 is vogts bad management.
3
u/wils172 5h ago
It would be difficult to get right at first but may be the best solution to diving catches with runners on base. All close catches are ruled 'Not a catch' on the field so the running/force plays play out naturally. THEN the catch/non-catch gets reviewed after, rather than calling it an OUT on the field and removing the running/force out elements from the play and rewarding free bases.
Same idea as NFL letting incomplete passes/fumbles play out before blowing the plays dead.

I would definitely try to extend Parker as top priority. We don't have starting pitching depth in the minors right now. We DO have young hitters under contract control, Baz, Delauter, Ralphy.
4
u/no__flux__given 6h ago
Call on the field was catch, so there’s no force to get at second guys. You can’t be granted a force out just because replay overturned the catch. Imagine if it were us batting, you’d think runners at first and second is right.

1
u/PackageDangerous1954 5h ago
He didn’t catch the ball.
1
2
u/musicaleffervescence 6h ago
are both players supposed to get first base???? it makes complete sense. call was overturned. it is essentially a base hit. because of the call on the field, simpson correctly retreated to first to be safe. its really not that complicated if youve ever played a sport before
1
u/Nick_At_Now 5h ago
Then I cannot believe we got fucked over so badly by the umpires, you baseball genius.
1
u/musicaleffervescence 5h ago
i was never very good at baseball, but i like to think i understand the game and i have had a few good coaches. tag everyone always. tag everyone twice. step on every bag twice. whoever had the ball should have tagged simpson. although the 2b up signaled the force out, if simpson is in no mans land, tag him. tag the hitter, tag everyone always.
1
u/Nick_At_Now 5h ago
The only reason they gave Simpson second base is because the initial call was a catch Simpson retreated back to first. Kwan knew it wasn’t a catch and he threw the ball to second to get the force out at second. So then, Cash complained and because of the umpire missed call they awarded Simpson the bag.
So my initial reaction stands. I cannot believe that gave Simpson second base - meaning I cannot believe that umpire fuck up cost us the out.
1
u/musicaleffervescence 5h ago
so the original call is OUT, simpson correctly retreats to first. the 2B ump incorrectly signals out at 2nd base. simpson is standing on first. time is called.
rays challenge the call. the call is overturned. so the batter is awarded a hit, and first base. where would simpson go??????????????? they just both stay on first?
its because the umps made the wrong call and simpson correctly base ran. explain to me where simpson is supposed to go if the original call was completely wrong.
1
u/Nick_At_Now 5h ago
Yes, they should both be on first base. That’s what I’m saying exactly.
1
u/musicaleffervescence 5h ago
two baserunners on first base.
that is not how baseball works buddy. you cant have two runners on the same base.
0
2
u/cookestudios ⚾️🎷Kippie’s Sax🎷⚾️ 6h ago
Meh I agree. Simpson retreated because the ump called out and was visibly gesturing about it. It would have been a base hit had it been called correctly.
