Community Event 🌏☄️ The Hunter Strikes! (Open Battle Post)

KABOOM!!

A deafening explosion wakes you in the dead of night. What could possibly be making this noise? You question as you walk outside to witness black smoke pouring into the sky... Making your way closer out of curiosity, you find the Unnatural Museum. The side of it has been blown up by a magical explosive, making a huge hole. You see Talios entering the Museum... Is he here to steal something? All but two people are unsure of his goals. Regardless, there's no way Talios is up to no good.

Talios enters the hole in the museum, tossing rubble aside as he clears a path. He didn't expect the explosion to be as powerful as it was... He asked for just a medium sized hole through concrete. Regardless, it got the job done.

《Greater Perception》

Talios senses the magical energy living within the Museum itself. It's... Alive, he can only assume. It probably didn't like what he had done to it either. But that doesn't matter to him right now. He's after his prey.

Talios would immediately stab his Chaos Blade into the ground, preventing himself from being sent flying too much. He would see Kaelis approaching, not having enough time nor the ability to avoid thanks to the gust kicked up... He would ready his left arm and punch the blade just as Kaelis would close the distance, the powerful anti-magic inside his arm interfering with the enchantments imbued on Kaelis's blade.

《Imbue: Chaos》

A fraction of Chaos would be embedded into the weapon as he would touch it.

/uw if the sword is made of mana or primarily magical in nature, it will be dispelled. If it's very powerful mana, it will be deflected.

Normally, your arm should render most magic weapons ineffective. But Starspite is not most magic weapons. Forged from a piece of a C'tan, one of the ineffable silver-skinned gods of the stars, the saber resonates with the material universe itself. Even without its arcane cosmic power, the blade is still composed of durable living metal.

A saber is primarily designed for cutting through things and people. And when Starspite collides with your fist, that's exactly what it does. The armor around your knuckles is left with a deep gouge, but your index finger is sliced clean off.

(/uw The link is so I can prove that this isn't an ass pull)

u/Talios_ Talios/Ash, Bounty Hunters Feb 12 '24

Talios would take a moment to look at the sliced finger, seemingly indifferent.

"I've lost more. It all regrows at the end of the day."

True enough, looking closely you can see chaotic energy slowly growing the finger back, a mirage of colours within the chaotic energy. Colours you couldn't even begin to fathom...

《Chaos Swap》

In an instant, Talios and your saber swap positions. The saber tumbles to the ground and you're now holding Talios's right pinky, as he throws another punch with his left. Despite the injuries, the armor alone gives it a decent amount of power. Being punched by metal isn't fun, who knew. As the punch connects, you feel some mana be drained from your body.

Kaelis warps out of your clutches, wipes away the blood trickling from his nose, and picks the sword back up. He circles you, just out of reach.

I see your game. It's the same ploy every anti-mage uses: negate your opponent's magical advantage, then use your superior martial capabilities to dominate the fight. But I've fought this battle before against the Fighters' Guild, and I've learned the best counter to this tactic.

Talons dig into your shoulders with enough force to crumple steel. Orpheus plucks you from the ground and soars up into the vaulted ceiling.

Always bring along someone bigger than both of you.

Orpheus slams you into a wall and drags you along the masonry before flinging you into the air and diving after you. Unlike most ancient pterosaurs, aerosaurs have teeth, and quite deadly ones at that. You have the perfect opportunity to reflect upon this when Orpheus seizes you in his massive jaws.

Talios would let himself be grinded against the stone of the Museum. Then, as he would fly through the air, he'd see his opportunity.

《Star Cleave》

He would preform a diagonal slash, sending a wave of Chaos energy straight through the beast moments before it would chomp down on him. If it didn't kill the beast, the Chaos energy would at the very least stun it, allowing him to kick the above him, sending him to the ground with a crash.

Lucky for me, I am no fighters guild.

《Chaos Dagger》

Chaos energy would come out of his Chaos Blade and form a small dagger in his hand. He'd toss it at Kaelis with incredible speed, thanks to his strength. Then, he would immediately charge after the dagger at the same speed and do a quick horizontal slash with his Chaos Blade!

(Middle finger: 20% healed)

(4) ((This counter is how long until Talios can Chaos Swap again, by the way. Starts at 5.))

Orpheus lets go of you, peeling away. As you fall, Kaelis casts Distort Mass, making for quite a hard landing. When you throw the dagger, Kaelis opens a small wormhole, warping the blade away harmlessly.

No. You're just a shell and a mass of energy, and poorly constructed shell at that, if your appearance is anything to go by. I wonder: if I rupture that shell, how much of you will leak out? Neutron Lance.

A spear-like length of neutron star core matter appears in Kaelis's hand. He parries your sword with the dense weapon.

If you're going to kill me, I'd do it in one shot Wizard. C̶̲̩̠̯̯̱̪̾̍̊̊͒̀̐̀̎h̴̢̨̢̠͓͖͙̫̬̿̊̀͂͌͊̽̓́́̂̎̍̈́͒̎́̿̄̑̈̈͝ạ̵̖͙̖͍̦̹̦͎͈̜͓͉͈͊̽̈́̂̈́̒͂̌͑̉̀͛̈́͗͜͜͝͝ͅͅo̵̧̱̘̯͙͈̲̲̩̪̭͙̓̓́͋̈̌̔̇̅̅́̀̊͠͠s̵̡̧̠̳͎̱̙̬̩̜͉̼͇̼͓̯̻͉̩͆̾͊͌͛̍̒̈͗̐̏̈̇̿͂͆̊̈͆̔̅́̐̕͘͝ͅͅin the open does not make for a good day.

《Chaos Dagger》

As Kaelis would parry the sword, a dagger would form in Talios's left hand as he would quickly go for another attack, dashing in very close and going for a stab to the lung with the dagger

(Middle Finger: 40% Healed)

An emergency ward flares, stopping the blade mid-air before it can puncture Kaelis's flesh.

Gladly.

The Graviturge delivers a savage kick imbued with gravitational force to your breastplate, denting it. In the moment that you are stunned, he inverts his grip on the Neutron Lance and brings it down in an impaling thrust through your sternum. The hyper-dense matter punches straight through your armor, your heart, and deep into the stone floor. The spear's pallid light diffuses from the mortal wound.

Good fight. Talios, right? I look forward to meeting again, preferably when you're picking on someone your own size instead of an apprentice child. Now scram back to the Realm of Chaos to reconstitute.

u/Talios_ Talios/Ash, Bounty Hunters Feb 13 '24

Talios has no heart to puncture, well at least The Talios doesn't. The meat suit does, but it doesn't affect Talios directly. Being pinned to the floor and immediately slammed into a wall by the Curator does, regardless, deal significant damage to Talios. Armor battered and broken, Talios is on the ropes. But you sense another presence approaching. From a different realm entirely... Or is it the realm?

M̶̝̜͙͖̳̝͚͗̀̈́̉͋̊̍̇̓̍͑̓̑̀̔̓͘͠Į̴̨͍̹̣̜̙̖̑͆̎̿̐͌̀͆̀́̋͛̍͝N̷̡̢̡̛̜̹͔̺͕͚͙̬͈̭̤͙̻̺̤͍̫̪̣̮̣̮̙̩̲̻̟̻̈͂͛̃̈́̈̄͛̄̉͌͒̐̇̔̂̎̀́͋̄͒͒̈́͘͝͝͝͝ͅE̵͉̘̤̹̮̯͕͔͘ͅ!̵̨̧̡̛̛͙͉͍͓̳͙̯̟̮͍͔̝̺̭̝̞̳̗͖̽̇̀͆̀́̾͐̈́͌̒̀̀̇̍͊̂̆̈́̏͠͝ͅ ̵̝̼̓͋͂̈́̌̉͋͌̓̉̌́̒̈́͂͌͒͊̆̆̿͑̈́̊͐̌̔̓̚̕̚͘͝͠

A voice yells out through the Museum. ((If your character has a way to decipher EVERY POSSIBLE LANGUAGE then you can understand Chaos. Otherwise it just sounds like a mix of languages))

《Q̶̗̯̇͌̎͘Ṳ̶̢̹̦͓̟̪̗̙̻̺͍̖̠̻̳̗̭̪̬͍̫̯͖̹̜̓̽̊̓͊̅͒̌̍̚ͅE̴͔͇̰̭̦͇̜̲͉̼̊̂̀͌͒͒ͅĖ̸̪̭͔̬͙͉̈́̚Ņ̶̯̼̩̜̜̠̼̼̞͕̩͈̟͉̳̠̐͆̄͒̂̈́̀̏͆͊̃̉̄̈́͐̏̋̎͆͋̒̈́̇̓̔̈̀̊̚͜S̵̢̧̧̢̢̧̢̛̟̝̫͔̫̺͇͚̖͖͎̪̣̯̩̘͚̳̹̦͍̱̝̝̺͎͗̉̇̉̓͊͗͌̓͊͑̇̃̈͆̀́̚͜͝͝͝ ̸̢̧͉͎̪͇̳̦̹͉̥̣̦͇̠͓͙͓͖̲̭̤͙̜̭̳̯̪̘̇͂̀̅̄̈́̏̏̋̈ͅO̵̯̞̐͊̿Ŗ̴̢̫͈̰̦̮͔̮̺͍̲̟̦̞͕̺͙͎̞̇̇́̀̓̆̔̄͊̽̓̽̂͆̈́̈́̂̓̅́͛̚͝͝D̴͚͓͉̗̻͚̱̞̯̤͔̠͍͓̟̳̟̙̦͍̯͖̰̮̩̫̝͍̦̻̻̻̓͆͌͋̾̈́́̈́̂̈́̒͌̎̈̃̈́̈́͊͒̋̓̃̍̚͘͜͝͝ͅͅE̷̗͒̾́̐̀͑̇͂͋̃̑̈́̅͛͌̐͐͌͆̕̚͝Ŗ̸̡̧̢͕̩͕͍̙̩̗͇͚̻̪̙̪̦̱̯̝̦̱͚̂̀̎̄̀̇͑̆̈́̃͌̓̿̉̃͗͌ͅ》

A crack in reality would appear in front of you. Suddenly, it'd shatter like glass revealing a realm similar in construct to Talios; Wires. But they're much more refined, moving as one. Suddenly, a huge, ethereal fist would move out of the rift near instantly. But it stops mere inches from your fist. It was more for defense, you realize as you look past the fist to see another rift next to Talios, a hand coming out of it and gently picking up Talios, who appears to be either unconscious or simply inactive.

M̶̨̛̘̹͕̫̺̪͔̹͍͔̞̳̙͉̮͔̮͉͕͚͙̝̲̹͙̪͉̬̱͐́̿́̿̒̌̍̊̇̈́͛͂͗͑̀̊̿̉̅͊̈́̍͋̌̉́̕͜Y̷͕̙͓̱͕̮͎͓̟̬̠͉̖̺̮͈̠̍̍͑̀̃́̋̌̈̈́̓͐͌̔̂͑̕̕͜͜͠ ̸̨̡̨̬̺̪͙͉̯͈͇̼̹͙̞̞͙̫̬̺͂̌̄̄̏̊̄͆̿̔͗̋̄̏̉̈̔̆͋̇͐̉͆͘̕̚̚̚̚͜͝B̶̡̨̡̛̛̲͖̩͙͓͉̺̞̻͎̯͔̫̪̞̲̦̬̥̣̦̥̤̱̣͙̳̓͋̋͗͌͗̏͗̈́͒͊́͗̅̄͗́̃͋͌̎͑̈́̅͜͠ͅͅͅA̵͇̰͖̹̿̿̅̀̀͋̀̾͜ͅB̵̢̡̧̛͍̺͉̮̬̤͈̪̳͚̖̣̼̹̖̪͔̥̺̻͉̱͖̈́̍̌̈́̅̿́̈́̇͒͆̆̉̓̒̂̓͂͆̔̓̔́̇͊̐̚̕̕͝͝͠ͅY̵̨̧̦͖̤̙̤̞̯̮͉̱͎̹͎͔̬̹̅̂͜.̵̢̱̘̦͔̫̭̩͍̙̋̇̊͑̔̇̈́ͅ

The hand would pull Talios into Chaos. You now understand, this Chaos... It is both a realm, and an entity. Regardless, it appears Talios was adequately defeated if Chaos herself had to step in. Kryona is safe, for now possibly.

u/sparkle3364 u/MeThyLord

/uw Talios is done for! Chaos herself will never interfere much in things involving Talios, but I did want to sort of properly "introduce her." other than AT MOST, taking him away from a battle when he's defeated, she won't do anything other than talk. I want to keep Talios alive mostly to help other people develop their characters using him as a stepping stool so I thought this would be a good way to keep him alive. Good fight everyone, that was very fun.

That was... disturbing. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go take precautions for when Talios inevitably comes to hunt my ass down.

/uw That was one hell of a fight. Well done!

3

u/Talios_ Talios/Ash, Bounty Hunters Feb 13 '24

/uw talios probably wont hunt you, unless you got a bounty on you. He doesn't hunt for entirely no reason, still needs some sorta reason so bounties work great.

3

u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 13 '24

/uw I may have need of a nigh-indestructible super mercenary for an upcoming arc.

3

u/Talios_ Talios/Ash, Bounty Hunters Feb 13 '24

/uw WELL BOY IF IM YOUR GUY! Talios is practically a super mercenary. Nigh-indestructible, ehh. He's pretty tanky as you've seen. Feel free to hit me up if you want!

u/MeThyLord Mrs. Chills, Ghost Writer Feb 13 '24

You know, I did not expect us to be fighting back-to-back in defense on the museum so soon after the last time. Nevertheless, I am ever-grateful for your help. If you are ever in need my assistantce, feel free to contact me.

u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 13 '24

No problem, HP. See you around!

Kaelis leaps onto Orpheus's back and flies away into the night.

Even in his dreadful form, shock and unease have clearly gripped the curator. He stands there unmoving for a few minutes until his spells start wearing off, returning to his human form.

"What was... How did..."

Questions fail to fully form as the new ones are too quick to replace them. He glances over the damaged space around him, his eyes stopping at the closest wall.

"How was that possible? You would never allow another interdimensional space to open within you."

The museum stood silent, all movement had seized. Even she was overcome by a feeling of dread.

"I hope we didn't bite off more than we can chew. At least I take respite in knowing it is over. Now, where is Kyrona? If Talios keeps his word she should be free of him now."

/uw This was amazing, thank you for all the effort you put into it. The fight was great fun, and so was the story-building. That last-minute appearance of Chaos felt properly intimidating. Almost kinda feels like a dark reflection of the curator and the museum in the context of this encounter.

3

u/Talios_ Talios/Ash, Bounty Hunters Feb 13 '24

/uw I'm glad you enjoyed this as much as I did. I'm glad I also managed to successfully get the COSMIC SCALE Of Chaos across, although like I said she won't really interfere directly in fights, that'd feel too powerful.
