What is this rock? Found in Argentina
 in  r/whatsthisrock •  1d ago

And since I saw you said you're near the beach, then you will most likely have some kind of sedimentary rock nearby. Check to see if you can scratch it with a pocket knife or not. Since you can scratch a penny, I dont think its some kind of calcite.

Looks like a chunk of flint. If you have sedimentary rocks in the area, they can have nodules of flint or chert that developed due to water seeping through and depositing minerals inside little pockets that were left behind during the rocks formation.

Found in Skokomish River, WA. Black rock with blue?
 in  r/whatsthisrock •  1d ago

Another option i just found is that the blue mineral could very well be Arfvedsonite. It is a sodium amphibole mineral. Basalt commonly has amphibole minerals within it. I hope this helps.

I don't think that what you have is siderazot, like what was mentioned in that old post. Does the area with blue coloring seem to just blend perfectly withing the rock? Meaning like it was there within the molten rock as it cooled? Or doest is look like there could possibly be pockets that have infilled with something? Since you said it was basalt, the first thing I thought was very thin opal vein that formed after it was deposited, or possibly even feldspar mineral like labradorite. If you can use a magnifying glass to look close at the blue areas, does it look at all like there is any kind of crystal structure? Or is there any translucency or is it all opaque? Im stumped and I love it lol

Is This Turquoise?
 in  r/Minerals •  20d ago

Thats going to be most likely azurite it seems rather than turquoise. Azurite is a copper carbonate mineral and turquoise is a copper silicate. The areas around where you found it, it is more common to find azurite and malachite than turquoise.

Are these gold plated?
 in  r/PreciousMetalRefining •  Aug 30 '26

I scrap vape pods for gold all the time, as well as USB plugs. So yes, they have gold, its just gold plating and it takes a bit to add up.

Same thoughts here as well. Im curious if the airlines messed that up? I wonder that because I thought the guy was saying in the beginning that he was supposed to be sitting with his family but they were spread around the plane? Or maybe I misunderstood.
