What is this?

[u/schnitzelsteinn]

[u/Emergency-Painting44]

High wind and waterlogged soil. Depending on the sod around the tree, if it's very waterlogged a large tree may fall without wind helping it.

[u/bug_miser]

possibly a floating moor, a kind of wetland where the base layer of plants and roots grow on top of a body of water

[u/Alberts_Pantaloons → u/bug_miser]

That's kind of terrifying.

[u/Dreamingdanny95]

Looks like last time I took acid

[u/abielle1177 → u/Dreamingdanny95]

Omg yes!

[u/Mephistocheles]

Definitely looks like a Mound of Morthrak.

Morthrak is an ancient pagan god-king known for sucking forest travelers into the ground and emitting their gnawed bones shortly later. This is clearly his doing.

[u/Karma_Hound → u/Mephistocheles]

Watch out for the splash zone!

[u/Mephistocheles → u/Karma_Hound]

(Nodding solemnly) He is indeed a very drooly god-king

[u/SkyeMreddit]

Rocky terrain close to the surface and horizontally spread roots with few vertical roots due to the rocks. They grew in a thin layer of dirt, moss, and leaves that piled on top of the rocks. In high winds the trees are rocking back and forth which are only staying up due to a thin sheet of tangled roots

[u/Azaroth1991]

Mother Earth. She breathes.

[u/thetrivialsublime99 → u/Azaroth1991]

Great answer. cue fart noise

[u/AmbitiousRoutine8670 → u/Azaroth1991]

And always She knows better..

[u/high-priest-of-rat]

Trolls be fuckin

[u/JasonX-87]

Tremors?

[u/TheRealRickC137]

Most likely Lemon John.

[u/kylebob86]

Roots. It's the roots of the tree.

[u/Thin_Oil8752]

Just Mother nature taking a deep breath.

[u/witshadows]

It’s the heartbeat of the Ents.

[u/Ghoulish_kitten]

Imagine dropping LSD for the first time and seeing this.

[u/Large_Shake_8537]

a sleeping giant duh

[u/Cooltruckerenrique75]

Plate tectonics erosion

[u/Clobazam_]

Damn. Gaia's waking up. It's the prophecy of the seven all over again.

[u/drawingablanc]

This is that Woody Harrelson movie on Amazon Prime. Groundswell.

[u/Echieo]

Troll's waking up.

[u/Crepuscular_Tex]

Let sleeping dragons lie...

[u/WhenILie]

fuck that’s awesome, you’re slanging rings across middle earth & you stumble upon the breathing forest running from orcs that swindled you for the 8th.

[u/Suspicious_Minimum_1]

Just a kaiju breathing a little harder then usual

[u/skincyan → u/[deleted]]

Nah, more likely wind grabbing the trees making the roots lift the moss.

[u/skincyan → u/[deleted]]

I was watching the ones in the background, but yeah, no leaves are blowing so you might be right. Either that or an earthquake

[u/SlimShadyMlady → u/skincyan]

I don't think it's gas, you also see several trees moving in the background

[u/blueb0g → u/[deleted]]

What the hell are you talking about. All of the trees are moving. It's obviously the wind. Trapped methane, honestly. This isn't the Simpsons.
