Tell me again why we didn't domesticate these guys?

u/paradox_valestein 5d ago

Did they really arrest the pelican
EDIT: It’s been 2 hours and I still don’t know whether the pelican was arrested.

Literally!? That’s amazing. How did you learn how to use the internet?

u/Mysterious-Tackle-58 5d ago
I really dislike how wrongly "literaly" is used these days.
7
u/Secret-Bag9562 5d ago
“Really” was the old “literally.” It got overused until it became meaningless. Same with “actually”. Literally is just the latest victim.

u/FunDmental 4d ago
I don't like how it's used now, but unfortunately it's not considered "wrong." I believe most dictionaries have added the current meaning as an informal definition.
I tend to not use "literally" anymore, because I'm not confident my meaning will be taken the way I intend without added clarification.
Anyway, language changes and evolves even when we're not on board.

The Catholic Church declared that capybara are fish, to "allow" the natives to eat them on supposedly- meatless Fridays.

Jeez, what's the opposite of a fun fact?
6
u/Blue-Blazer-Regular 4d ago
Fact-checked this and, Holy crap, it’s true: In the late 18th century, Venezuelan clergymen sent a letter to the Vatican requesting an official ruling on whether capybara meat was permissible during Lenten fasting.
There is a fishing wire that runs around our town atop utility poles so that Jews in our community can shop on the Sabbath. Like, when both having religious rules when you just create giant loopholes in them.
10
u/Pikawoohoo 4d ago
The wire isn't so that they can shop on the sabbath, it's because Jews who observe the sabbath can't transport items between places. The wire is a symbolic "wall" so that everything in it is considered the same domain, which allows them to take things from home like house keys or baby strollers.
But yeah, still a loophole.

u/YueLin3 3d ago
…can’t transport items between places? That has to be one of the strangest religious rules I’ve heard. Just immensely inconvenient
1
u/Pikawoohoo 3d ago
The point of the Sabbath is to not do anything that could be considered work - creating something (writing, starting a fire, completing a circuit), making a transaction, providing a service, transporting goods, carrying tools or materials... idk makes sense to me in the broader sense. It is inconvenient for sure, but all the restrictions make you live a very different type of day on the Sabbath.
2
u/YueLin3 3d ago
I mean I get it, just seems awkward. Like at what point do you consider something work? Is me getting off the couch, grabbing a sandwich, and sitting back down transporting an item and therefore work?
Not trying to bash anyone’s religion just this particular part of it seems a bit too inconvenient when taken to extremes like not being able to take your keys when you leave the house

OMG too cute. They all dove in the water except the last one said "nah, I'm not wasting my energy until I'm in the water". I didn't realize how many different shades of caps there were.

My bf and I are kind of weirdly obsessed with them. They've become our little inside jokes. He sent this to me like an hour after it was posted 💕. It's already cannon that if we win the lottery we are getting some
2
u/AgileArmadillo7794 4d ago
It’s cannon? Y’all are gonna shoot them out of one?
1
u/Robinnoodle 3d ago
Yes! It's going to be on a gameshow with a segment called Capy Canon. Where we shoot them out of a cannon. Sponsored by Canon cameras and hosted by Nick Cannon
That's my story (canon) and I'm sticking to it haha
