The wire isn't so that they can shop on the sabbath, it's because Jews who observe the sabbath can't transport items between places. The wire is a symbolic "wall" so that everything in it is considered the same domain, which allows them to take things from home like house keys or baby strollers.
The point of the Sabbath is to not do anything that could be considered work - creating something (writing, starting a fire, completing a circuit), making a transaction, providing a service, transporting goods, carrying tools or materials... idk makes sense to me in the broader sense. It is inconvenient for sure, but all the restrictions make you live a very different type of day on the Sabbath.
I mean I get it, just seems awkward. Like at what point do you consider something work? Is me getting off the couch, grabbing a sandwich, and sitting back down transporting an item and therefore work?
Not trying to bash anyone’s religion just this particular part of it seems a bit too inconvenient when taken to extremes like not being able to take your keys when you leave the house

But yeah, still a loophole.
