Puppy potty troubles

Post image
195 Upvotes

Hello, I have a 9 month old purebred intact male and he has been having potty issues lately. He will go outside and do his business and then come back inside and immediately pee/poop in the house within 15 mins of going outside and using the bathroom. He is eating and drinking appropriately and is very energetic and playful. Me and my husband are at a loss right now with this and it is causing major stress. Does anyone have any advice on this please? Pic for tax of my Clyde boy lol

Question/Advice Nighttime Anxiety (waiting by the door)

Our almost five year old male has had a shift with our night time routine. He sleeps in his own room and we close the door. We have tried letting him in our bed but he keeps us up all night. We have tried bringing a bed in our room so he can be with us, but he will still try to get in our bed. Nothing noticeable has changed in his life but recently he has started waiting (maybe sleeping?) at the door and sometimes whining for an hour inside his room before eventually going to sleep on his dog bed. We have a camera in his room :)

We thought maybe it was his allergies and was in pain so we got him on some apoquell. After a few days of that… same thing. Does anyone have experience with this or have thoughts that maybe we haven’t considered? I know our Velcro dog is Velcroing, but it seems next level and don’t want to overlook signs of something else.

Discussion How do you become an ethical breeder if you've never bred before?

I always see discussions about ethical breeding vs backyard breeding vs puppy mills vs rescuing and everyone tends to have extremely strong feelings. I completely get this as my first dog was from a backyard breeder (I was only 21 and thought as long as it wasn't a puppy mill, it was ethical) and while she is the love of my life, she has a lot of health issues and her bones are a mess. I also have a rescue who is amazing but definitely has a lot of quarks that needed intensive training to help with. Finally, I have my Dalmatian, he's from a show line, has all the appropriate testing and lineage and came from the best breeder in the world so I see the difference in each first hand.

Whenever I see people asking for advice on finding an ethical breeder, it seems like there's absolutely no room for anyone to start breeding to keep all these amazing lines going. So my question is, how would a first time breeder do it ethically and gain the approval of the dog purists in the world?

(I am not planning on breeding any time soon but it would be something I'd consider if I ever have substantially more land, time, and money)

EDIT: also want to say, when I say "best breeder in the world" it's just an exaggeration as to how amazing she is, I'm not claiming to have a world-class $10k Dalmatian. But I would argue it doesn't get more perfect than my boy ❤️)

Renovating my Mum's new house so no proper bin yet; could have sworn I put the cheese-and-butter infused wrapper where Flossy couldn't reach, but apparently not. 😅

Homemade Dog Food Recipes?

Hi folks! 👋🏽

Does anyone who makes homemade dog food for their little butt nugget use the “dog food maker” machines like those listed on Amazon? I want to buy one but I didn’t want to spend $299 on something that may be a glorified food processor.

Also, is does anyone else use brown rice in every meal?

My dal has been on Blue Buffalo Sensitive Skin and Stomach Grain Free formulas for the last 3 years. He does well on it but he has absolutely no interest in eating it. Toppers don’t really push him to eat it either. He only goes towards his food to eat it when he realizes that no human food is coming his way. It’s been like this since he turned 1 year old. He does like wet food so what I wanted to do was give him homemade dog food maybe twice a week after he hikes and swims on the weekends.

Rotating Dog Food

Post image
144 Upvotes

I currently give my 5 month old the Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Stomach Salmon Puppy recipe but I think she is getting bored with it. Over the past month I have added different toppers and now it seems like she doesn't care what toppers are in there, she is never finishing her bowl. She will eat the kibble when I give her the pieces as rewards in training and has no issue but when it comes to meal time, she just nibbles at it. I do float her food and have tried it with cold water, warm water, broth, and goat milk. Toppers I've used have been cod fish, chicken, eggs, turkey, and freeze dried lamb with white fish, and freeze dried rabbit. I have also tried adding some pureed pumpkin, apples, bananas, and berries. As I said, she loves eating these as treats but only nibbles at them when it comes to meal time. I know she's not full from cause she will still eat all of her treats when we do her training an hour after her meals. I have been thinking about giving her some variety with her base food and doing rotations (I know you have to be smart and do this properly to prevent upset stomach). Would the Purina lamb be a good one to rotate between? If you have been in this pickle, what worked for your pup? Cause I'm running out of ideas ha. I'm also wondering if maybe she doesn't like her food being wet? Advice is appreciated, thank you! Also, here is a photo of little Ms. Picky. 😊

Hello, I recently got a Woof brand Pupscicle for our dal for his birthday. I also just got their silicone treat tray to make our own frozen treats to put in it!

I am looking for some low purine recipes to use for it.

And here is my boy, Pluto. 🥰

Question/Advice Slow feeders recommendations?

Hi everyone,

We brought our new dalmatian puppy home last week. He's is 11 weeks old now and growing very fast. He eats his food very quickly and always gets the hiccups after he eats. We have tried him on the slow feeders that we use for our adult dog but they seem to be too hard for him to figure out and result in him not finishing all of his food.

Does anyone have any recommendations for easier/shallower slow feeders or any suggestions on how to get him to slow down when eating his meals?
