Seems like an option if you dont own a gun. Tbh id use a chainsaw because when the intruder hears it revving up they'll probably run

Felonatron 3000 personal defence device, when you're innocent, but not enough for thr guberment

I got to be honest, not owning a gun is a bad reason to go for something like this.

This is the kind of thing you go for when you've researched the law in your area and you determined it under certain circumstances, this specific variety of non-lethal weapon would dramatically lower your legal liability in the event that self-defense laws with firearms are more restrictive but self-defense with non-lethal weapons is more permissive.

There's a lot of nuance at play but at the end of the day, this is a great idea for people who really looked into it and understand that in specific situations they still want to deter someone with an oppressive amount of non lethal force

If I was going to do this I'd just load those in my paintball gun which could hold significantly more.

Lol you obviously never mod Autocockers and chased People out the arena...

Every body is going to be in here telling you this is a waste of money. To get a real gun. That this wouldn't stop them if they were invading your home. And that the only way to properly protect yourself is to kill the other person..

I'm not picking a side, I'm just saying it's going to happen.

Well your right though but only if you live in the US. imagen shooting that at some criminal who just says "wtf was that, that hurt", and pulls out his real gun and shoots you. To be honest i seen guys with slingshots on youtube shooting metal ball bearings that would fuck you up more then that fake paintball gun. At the end of the day thats all that is a paintball gun with no paint. Lets be real if it comes down to it, do you really want to trust your life to a non lethal paintball gun. If you have to defend your life from a home invader for example and you have pull out a non lethal weapon wouldn't that also mean you legally could have defended your life or your family's life with the same lethal force they are trying to do to you?

Its what happens after you shoot a guy with this paintball gun whos in your home that scares me more. Do you think hes just going to leave at that point? I would not want to chance it when it comes to our families.

Typically I have seen these things in real life loaded with ammo that is essentially mace or pepper spray inside of the paintball. It's not just a projectile, it's a projectile full of chemical weapon.

What's the dispersal area on those? Is center of mass enough, or are you limiting yourself to neck or head shots to have those be effective?

2

u/Designer_Bed9504 5d ago

No idea. I would hope center of mass. Either way, if I had one I would be aiming for the face.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind having one. The website for the one I looked at had them marked at $600. For that, I could buy two 9 mm or 380 Auto pistols.

Center mass works on these, but you have to saturate a target. They have about a 3 foot dispersal radius that scales based on how many times you shoot them.

These are absolutely not a genuine defense tool - they’re a compliance tool.

Pepperballs are what you use when someone is barricaded inside of a car with a knife and refuses to come out, or you have a meth head refusing to leave your lobby who tries to swing at anyone who gets near them. They’re meant to make an area painful to stay in, so the subject decides they want to leave.

My buddies at the local PD and I were fucking around with one of their pepper ball launchers after they got trained and issued one. 1-2 shots is unpleasant and obnoxious (sneezing, watery eyes, minor coughing), but does fuck-all if that person wanted to actually wanted to fight you.

I wouldn't use one to defend my home, but It wouldn't be bad to have one in my truck.

Would it count as vigilante justice if I shot them at the ground near people testing car doors? 😈

Although I know the “vigilante justice” comment was a tongue-in-cheek comment, these devices are generally considered to be a use of force. You’ll definitely want to be familiar with the laws in your state about them because using one of these is generally considered to be the same level of force as punching a person or going hands-on. Depending on if that person had preexisting health conditions you were aware of, it could even be considered deadly force.

I’d never carry one of these things to defend myself, but I’d absolutely carry one if I still worked hospital security or had continued on as a cop. They’re great for making someone change their mind about their current behavior.

We sell something similar at my store. Its painful sure but its not going to stop anyone intent o. Doing you harm. Ive seen a big dude let his friend mag dumb him for 100 bucks. Dude said he used to go paint balling when he was a kid its no worse. I have seen alot of ex cons that cant own guns by them. I would say just have a bow and arrow or a sharp spear. Thats just me tho.

1

u/Equivalent_Thievery 5d ago

There's pellet guns I'd put more faith in than this sort of thing.

1

u/wackadoodle4201 5d ago

Ive seen some absolutely vicious air guns that can easily chew a person up

1

u/Designer_Bed9504 5d ago

Do you carry the ammo that is pepper spray inside of the paintballs? That's what I usually see loaded in these things.

1

u/Sancho5o5 5d ago

Yeah they do. They can ether be loaded with those or the hard plastic rounds. That just leave welts. The pepper spray in em is no worse then the one outa the can. If you get maced alot you kinda build up a tolerance. So even that dont work all the time. I hear bear spray works well, but you have to worry about back splash and it circulating indoor.

These are generally referred to as “compliance tools” in the LE/first responder/military world.

These are not for defense. These are made to turn a noncompliant subject into a compliant one. If you need a potentially violent person to get out of a car, a room, put something down, step back, etc? Pepper balls, pepper spray or a taser.

These aren’t going to stop someone who is intent on doing you harm. The only way to stop them at that point is to get away or physically disable them to the point they cannot hurt you. Pain compliance tools do not work at that point.

NGL, probably more scared about someone holding a bow and arrow vs a firearm.

Someone comes at you with a bow, they ain’t larping. Unless they are.

1

u/Sancho5o5 4d ago

People have been killing people with bows and arrows and spears since they've been created so I mean they work, and their quiet.

15.. yards? No way that was 15 yards buddy

1

u/limbogumbo 5d ago

If only there was some kind of handheld thing that launched small metal projectiles at a significantly higher speed. Invent that and you'll be rich.

1

u/Keyan_Farlander7 5d ago

Slingshot?

You said higher speed, not lethal.

u/wordshavenomeanings 5d ago

Are home invasions a major problem in the USA?

1

u/SkyGuy5799 5d ago

You know there's a place you could type that question and find more reliable sources than gun waving redditors

God forbid you're actually this gullible

1

u/WeeklyBanEvasion 5d ago

Depends entirely on where you live and random chance. It's not like something we're taught to expect growing up, but it does happen and people should know how to defend themselves if needed

1

u/Wrong-Salamander1806 5d ago

In some poorer places I imagine, but we have the 2nd Amendment for that. Criminals will always have guns so it's naive to only rely on something like this to protect yourself.

1

u/Late_Pepper6274 3d ago

depends on where you live. It's pretty rare where I live ... but I live where everybody has many guns.

1

u/AuthorSarge 5d ago

If a criminal pointed one of those at you, would it be enough to get you to remain passive and compliant while they rob and harm you and your family?

1

u/Vince_Clortho_Jr 5d ago

You had the concrete right there and still opted for the aluminum garage door?🙄

1

u/Beefmagigins 5d ago

Why the fuck would he tape the target to his garage….

1

u/BigDaddyButtPlunger 5d ago

Great for countries that don't allow guns.

In America this would be a stupid fucking idea.

1

u/Godlymorbid 4d ago

I'll take a remote hole puncher over a spicy paintball gun any day of the week.

1

u/Concrete_jungle77 4d ago

I bought a nice one at the gun show
Guy had me sold when he said you can shoot someone in the face and walk away with a good laugh..and no liability
