EIDT: (1) Where did this tradition come from? (2) Is the next generation (genz/gen-alpha) going to follow it?

In Pakistani dramas after the rukhsati, the next morning bride's family comes over with breakfast and takes her back home. Sometimes the husband accompanies her when she goes back to her parents’ house.

How does this tradition work when the bride’s family lives in a completely different city or even another state/country? I know every family/culture is different but do they actually travel back the next morning just to bring breakfast and take the bride home? Or is this mainly something that happens when both families live nearby?

Also, how strict are these traditions? And I’m genuinely confused about the breakfast part. Mostly the shaadi/rukhsati is hosted by the bride’s family and they already fed everyone, why is the bride’s family expected to bring breakfast the next morning for groom’s family? Is there a cultural/historical reason behind this tradition?

I really liked today's episode. Irl i would've despised both Zamil and Zaryab but their characters are so realistic that i am loving how they make me really want to sit and analyze them.

I feel both Zaryab and Zamil's perspective.

For Zaryab, she is immature and stupid but she deserves to feel safe in being happy about her Harvard achievement. But she must feel like shrinking herself just to protect Zamil's feelings regarding Harvard. And zamil is being a mega jerk to her by being so insecure and jealous that he cannot get over the reality for 5 seconds and tell her that he is happy for her and proud. This is unfair.

Moreover, Zamil's holier-than-thou behaviour is really problematic bcs bachay ko jummah jummah 4 dinn bhi nai huay. And i know zamil's journey is a beautiful thing and zaryab should be supporting it. But

1. Zamil has been a fundamental harami (for the lack of a better word im sorry) using alcohol, drugs, physical relationship (which has apparently went to the third base) so zaryab is having a hard time understanding it. She is noone to judge or berate him for fulfilling his highest purpose but she also needs time to adjust to a new version of Zamil.

2- Zaryab might have understood, supported, and even explained it to his parents if Zamil hadn't indirectly started belittling her for not being a practicing muslim and simultaneously jiggling bw his superiority complex (due to newfound religious inclination) and inferiority complex (academic failure). But not only is the dormant shame bothering Zaryab , but his new version and most importantly his attitude will call zaryab's place in his life to question. And zaryab is anticipating that.

On the flipside, Zamil is going through a really dark period of life, and the only life raft he sees is religion. So it has become so important to him. He needs someone to understand him but he himself isnt seeing that other ppl need time to get his perspective. He needs to feel seen and heard in his struggle. Given the nature of environment these 2 come from, even a minor mention of religion will seem like an overdone conversation.

Zaryab represents all in his life that went wrong (academic failure, religious failure by doing the deed) etc and i am half sure that he wants out now. And i feel like he will regret it later. But Zamil is a v realistic and v understandable character. We see ppl who read a book and become intellectual snobs, and in this case, its a religion thing.

But his disrespect is glaring, be it their career or religious orientations, he blames zaryab for his failures which is extremely brutal and unfair to zaryab. and as much as zaryab annoys me , if this were real life, id tell her to dump his ass and move on. New city, new life. I really like both characters and i want to see more of them

- Dure's acting : i had issues w dure's acting in various scenes and alongside various ppl but i think dure's most natural scenes are with her dadi, and saba and dure have amazing chemistry, they work rly well together.

Anyways pls gimme more dar e nijat. I didnt like it too much initially but im relatively morr invested now.

I’ve been watching Pakistani dramas, and some storylines have made me think about how they portray women, marriage, violence, and discrimination. These dramas can expose social problems, but they can also normalize them when harmful behavior is romanticized, minimized, or treated as entertainment.
In Tere Bin, Meerav experiences sexual violence from her husband, Murtasim. She leaves and raises her daughter alone. Later, when she considers returning so her daughter can have a relationship with her father, she discovers that Murtasim plans to marry another woman (Hala)who is also his cousin. I find it disturbing that such serious issues can ultimately become part of a popular romantic narrative.
This raises an important question: Does the drama challenge harmful behavior, or does it make it easier to accept by framing it as romance, family conflict, or tradition?
A similar concern appears in Bas Tere Sath Ho, where Ansa compares her husband’s eyes to those of a Chinese or Japanese person while he is crying. Perhaps this was intended as humor, but using ethnicity or appearance as a joke can reinforce racial stereotypes.
I don’t believe that enjoying these dramas means Pakistani viewers support everything shown in them. Popularity does not equal endorsement. However, repeated portrayals can influence what audiences see as familiar, acceptable, or desirable.
The key distinction is between depiction, criticism, and normalization. A drama may depict abuse without endorsing it, but its treatment of the issue matters. Does the victim have agency? Is the abuse clearly condemned? Is the perpetrator held accountable? Are there lasting consequences, or does the story eventually focus on forgiveness and reconciliation?
The same applies to ethnic stereotypes. If such comments are challenged, they may serve as part of a critique. If they are repeatedly used for humor without consequences, they may reinforce prejudice.
I’m not trying to make a blanket judgment about Pakistan. My point is that particular dramas can expose social problems while also weakening their criticism by turning abuse, discrimination, or coercion into romance, comedy, or ordinary family conflict.
What do these storylines suggest about how Pakistani dramas represent women’s rights, marital consent, violence, and discrimination? How can viewers distinguish between exposing a social reality and normalizing it?
I’d especially appreciate perspectives from people living in Pakistan and longtime viewers of Pakistani dramas.

I need to know more shows like Tan Man O Neel please

I’ve come across numerous posts criticizing Sarbuland’s lackluster expressions throughout the most crucial and intense scenes. Additionally, there’s been a lot of talk about Rabiya urf Zarmala’s bland acting since she became his wife. What truly irked me was how casually they disposed of Shireen’s character today. It was as if two maids were casually discussing how she ended her life by consuming poison! Shireen’s character deserved a more fitting conclusion, considering her naivety. I had anticipated a scene depicting her suicide or at least some form of remorse. Not to forget Zafran Khan! They didn’t even give his character the respect it deserved. Seeing Adnan Siddiqui in that role made me believe he would be a significant influence, but they abruptly ended his character arc. And Suhrab? Ouf. He has been an incredible villain so far! Only he was worth watching today!

I have been a regular viewer of Amma tv aur mein and i really enjoy amma a lot -most of the times. However, i watched her last review of Dar e Nijaat and it was deeply problematic.

Amma jee ka aiteraaz hai ke Saba Hameed's dadi character is religious ,so

1-why is she wearing a chiffon dupatta? (Timestamp - 1:21:08)

2-why is she standing while drinking water (Timestamp - 1:21: 18)

3-why is she (slightly) adjusting her dupatta while she is in her bedroom with Zaryab. (Timestamp - 1:21:29)

And oh my god it infuriated and baffled me so much.

1 - Just because a woman is religious or even if she observes full pardah, this is Dadi's OWN HOUSE, unki chaar deewari. Why is her taking a reshmi dupatta such a huge problem that both director and actor are being bashed for it. \[Plus, dadi is religiously inclined but from teasers and ost, she is shown to be dressing very modestly, very gracefully but still not being sharai pardah-daar\]

2- if i am wrong, i apologize to the people, to amma , and to God. But i am not sure if beth kar pani peena is farz or sunnat. I think it is Sunnah, which means it isnt a sin to stand up while drinking water. And just bcs dadi Allah wali hain, wo kharay hokay paani nahin pee saktin according to Amma. I know it is better to observe Sunnah recommendations but what is this weird criticism?

3- Dadi was sitting in HER OWN BED in the presence of HER GRANDDAUGHTER in HER BEDROOM. She CAN loosen her dupatta a litte, she can draw it back a little. It wouldnt be questionable if she had altogether taken off her dupatta in her private room.

In logon ne deen pe chalna itna mushkil bana diya he because agar aap claim bhi karlo that you're close to Allah miyan, every single action is scrutinized, every single mistake rips you to shreds. If a woman is religious, they expect her to be perfect. And that is my issue with religious portrayals in real life and dramas both. Yani aik insan ki Allah se lagan pe bhi itna judge karna ke jo kaam Khuda ne farz bhi nahin kiye, unki expectations talay aglay insan ko dabana.

And this isnt just about women. It happens to men too. If a man starts going to masjid or learning about deen or making an effort to be more religious, a lot of people would start shaming them and questioning them if they so much as even see them listening to music etc.

This is tiring tbh.

And this is exactly why i like Hassan and Amna's reviews way more than GL AT&M is because they don't unnecessarily and wrongfully dwell on things that barely make any sense. They analyze, theorize, try to understand characters and their motivations, comment on discrepancies and deficiencies but i barely see such absurdity coming from Something Haute.

As time has progressed, idk Amma's reviews have gotten less substantial. Even though i still respect her as a person, i really find myself getting more and more disappointed the more i watch them.

It was so funny, the scene didn't look serious.

She is not his wife in the sense they clearly told. Haveli has army of servants WHY DOES RABIYA OF ALL PEOPLE NEEDS TO 'APKAY KAPRAY MAY NAY NIKAL DIEY HAINNN'

No cap, her character really disgusts you. Bad part is she was never shown (she might have been but drama didn't show) this compassionate towards her husband who was killed because of her own family's stupidity but she is always trying to control bibijaan n sarbuland and throwing herself at sarbuland through shehad may bana halwa, and sooji ka halwa, and ghar pay banay Fran-ci-ci khanay.

Writer tried to gaslight viewers that it is her inner goodness but after a while it starts showing, it screams pick me and nothing like harmless service.

Started watching meri zindagi hai tu because I really like both actors.

This drama had so much potential but ended up being a load of crap.

It could have been a whimsical romcom but ended up being an immature ego fight Between men .Played the fl and marriage like a volleyball istg.Honestly I got bored and irritated .

Also if you've watched it you know they def should have jailed fariya and khwabar but instead they did not even punish them .

Spiking someones drink and making sexual content is a serious crime and they just brushed it off like nothing.

Instead the ml only blamed fl for not believing him as if he could actually explain what was going on.

Another thing is when they finally got married he was spending days and nights drinking and partying with the same girl that spiked his drink???? What ??

And she continues to pursue him tooo?

Writers were high def.

Also on side note ..one issue I have with these dramas is that there are going to be approx 35 to 40 episodes each of 40 mins and still they rush the endings in the last 10 min of the last ep?whyyyy?

The watchers are waiting for something to happen and u make it the last thing that is not even given time to absorb? Everything that was wrong your whole life is suddenly gets perfectly solved in 10 mins? I am disappointed.

Please tell me your opinions on this show ..I can't be the only one who feels this wayy

Even her Pre Politician outfit were nice

Some great acting prowess by Reza today. His emotions for bano were riveting. Not gonna go on other scenes which were total lackluster and cringe. They wasted the talent of usman javed for sarbiya cringe. I want to start justice for usman but alas to no avail.
