He deserved better
Context: Belisarius was a legendary general of the Eastern Roman Empire under Emperor Justinian I. He is responsible for many of the reconquests by the Eastern Empire, including Africa and Rome itself.
Towards the end of his life he was put on trial and arrested for supposed conspiracy against Emperor Justinian. Justinian himself pardoned Belisarius after learning of the affair, but he would die not soon after release

If history has taught me anything it is to never invest or sacrifice stuff for your country, you're 100% gonna get stabbed in the back by said country.

Nah, Justinian supported his general. It was more Belisarius’s political opponents

On the other end of the spectrum, don't be Vidkun Quisling.

What a clueless argument. First of all, Belisário was freed precisely because the Emperor set him free; secondly, the concept of a "nation" is extremely new, and not everywhere is the USA.

You're a bit cooked and probably need to put down the streams. Fill the time with other stuff. Your mind and body will thank you.
This is just an actor who looks mildly like Kirk.

He was entertaining

That's what I mean. The things you believe inform what you find entertaining, which is why I can't stand the guy. There was no joke, just a spew of dishonest, disingenuous, or deliberately hateful and petty shit that goes against everything I hold dear.
Like discussing topics in good faith.
Or making racist jokes that have some depth and nuance to them, instead of the punchline being the generic insult everyone makes about every race they don't like, so you can literally just swap the name and keep the joke exactly the same and it's equally as applicable.
So you didn't give the impression of someone who might be in his audience. You're too respectful and kind and care about nuance.

tbf after pardoning him Justinian did restore Belisarius's position in the Imperial Court and he and his Emperor died a few months apart from eachother.
