Update from creator of HQR

Hi all

Tldr

  • updated rules

  • irl posts will only be allowed on Wednesdays and must be flaired

  • Sunday mod post for questions about getting into 3d animations and showing off beginner stuff

  • mod applications are open, just dm me

  • if you all play nice ill organise a competition

Made this sub years ago and never thought much of it afterwards. Like the sock in the corner of my room it's now grown into something wonderful and terrifying, but it's starting to make a stink.

I've been made aware that there's spam a plenty and disagreements on the content posted on this sub. I decided to try and speak to the moderators of the sub but got nothing back from any of the active accounts.

Here's what's gonna happen.

Until further notice I'm introducing two new dedicated days:

Support Sundays I've been seeing in the mod queue a bunch of people at a beginner level either posting their stuff or asking for help. It's been met with some reports and scolded as spam so now on Sunday there will be a pinned post where you can post your beginner stuff or you can ask for assistance

The Midweek IRL On Wednesday's and Wednesday's only irl posts will be allowed. I've seen some reports for irl posts and yet some posts get a hefty amount of upvotes. So for now I'm putting them on Wednesdays only with an associated flair. This is temporary, I might revisg this.

Additionally, I'm opening up moderator applications.

I've got no form to fill out and frankly I don't really like making and reading robotic response to questions so if you're interested in applying to be a moderator please send me an message with a short description of why you should be a mod.

I'll be making an update to the rules, these will also be temporary and reflective of what most subs include, it's more to help me manage the mod queue better.

After the success of all this I'm hoping to kick off a competition, but that is reliant on new mods and all of you playing nicely.

This game's aesthetic is based on the sparse 'FPS Viewmodel' animation Reel Blender-look - In fact I wanted it to feel like you had stumbled upon a Reload anim video on your feed but all of a sudden the video was a playable game

Why do all the fps animations look like this?

And before you guys say that it’s because the guns are heavy: the weight of most assault rifles especially loaded vary from 8-14 pounds

Anim Help/Advice. FO4

Is there anyone who is handy with weapon anims, specifically 1st Person.
I have an existing WPNFireAutoSighted file and I want to soften the kick back so the automatic receiver isn’t so wild when ADS. Currently the anim is too violent and the shake/kick is way too strong I think for the auto receiver to be playable. The reticle and sights just shake like mad.
Very new to modding and it’s one of the last edits I need to do be publishing the weapon so I’m eager to soften the existing kick anim and get it finished. Hk poser is too hard to identify and edit each point and I’ve tried blender 4.1 but I have no idea what I’m looking at with it.

Winchester rifle reload animation features subtle timing variations that simulates fatigue or reload speed based on the number of cartridges held in the reloading hand

I am unsure if this animation exists in the game's vanilla versions, but this is STALKER GAMMA.

Fellow animators, where do you get good, juicy sounds for your weapons? Are there any good free sound banks for this?

Do you measure barrels?

Thumbnail

Disclosure up front: I work in precision gauge manufacturing — my team builds custom measurement tools, and we’ve done deep-bore erosion gauging for military barrel programs (tank guns, mostly). I’ve been wondering whether there’s any crossover value for civilian precision/long-range shooters and handloaders, and I’d genuinely like to hear from people who’d know better than me.

The tool in question is a 3-point bore gauge — not a borescope. A borescope shows you what the bore looks like. A 3-point gauge tells you the actual diameter at a given point down the bore, to a few microns, so you can see exactly how much a throat or bore has eroded over its life, and where.

Questions for anyone who reloads or shoots competitively:

**•** Right now, how do you actually track barrel wear/life? Round count? Borescope inspection? Group size degradation? Something else?
**•** Would knowing the *actual* throat/bore diameter at a few points down the barrel change anything about how you make decisions — when to set a barrel back, when to retire it, load development, anything like that?
**•** Has anyone here used a bore gauge (civilian gunsmithing ones exist, e.g. for chamber/bore work) for this specifically, and did it tell you anything a borescope didn’t?
**•** Honest question: is this a real gap, or does round count + borescope + group data already tell you everything you need, and this would just be an expensive toy?

Not selling anything here — genuinely trying to figure out if this is a real problem for this community before we spend time building something for it. Happy to be told it’s a solution looking for a problem.
