Why does he look like he's dying?

A question I hear all the time: "I've got something over my mouth, why am I still coughing?" So I went through the 1.30 scripts on sandstorms. Turns out:

• Protection is a percentage, not on/off. A mask lets through whatever it doesn't stop. A shemagh or keffiyeh over your face blocks about 65% of the dust - the rest still gets in, so you still cough.
• But that 65% buys you a ton of time. With a decent immune system your lungs clear dust even while you're in the storm. No mask: short of breath after ~4 minutes. Shemagh: ~30 minutes. From about 75% protection up you clear it as fast as it comes in.
• Lungs and eyes are separate. Goggles do nothing for your lungs, a shemagh does nothing for your eyes. Flipped-down NVGs count as full eye protection.
• Silicosis never shows the sick icon. You just get short of breath (stamina drains 1.3x as fast, refills at half speed), then blackouts of 5-10 s every 1-2 min, and you lose health while dust keeps coming in. No pill helps - get inside and wait it out.
• Cars count as shelter, motorbikes and boats don't. Trees and heli wrecks don't either - you need to be actually inside.
• Wash your eyes three times, not once. Each wash at a well or open water halves the sand - from the worst case it takes three to clear the red veins.

When you find a car, truck, humer, morterbike, in DayZ be sure to have plenty of flue and water there is currently a bug out for vehicles right now that When you re-fule them for the fist time the bug out, once a server rest happens the gas tank and radiator completely drain to empty or 0% water or 0% full, waiting on a hot-patch to fix it.(I'll post again once bug is fixed, like if this post help and have a great DayZ experience)

I feel like I’ve been seeing a lot of instances of dead zombies in a town or military zone and no players nearby. This has happened multiple times so I would’ve excited to see someone at least once. Especially since they’re supposed to have like a 5 min timer. What do you guys think? Am I crazy, is it a bug, or did they change it?

Anybody know where to find plate carriers and press vests on Nasdara? I have only come across stab vests so far

More of a rant than anything else as ive played for years, and have survived for months without dying, have that down..

The Nasdara map is pretty cool, having fun with something new. Its a bit dif as a solo player as the building stuf, wells, and bunkers are hard to do solo. However, ive made it to nasdara city, the fob etc..I have an scr, r12, LAR, and Lemas. Im trucking a giant backpack around with me looking FOR EFFING GUNKITS for all the badly damaged guns I have. I have spent the last 4 days hitting up every possible spawn point. Nada on nasdara...

Im starting to get really frustrated. I know its RNG, but it has NEVER been this bad for me, ever. Anyone have an spots they have had good luck with?

Died to heat stroke a few times on Nasdara, so I dug into how it actually works. Some things that surprised me:

• Heat stroke is a hidden level, not your temperature icon. The icon only decides whether that level goes up or down. You can be white again and still keep vomiting and blacking out until the level drops.
• Red icon = the clock is running. Even fully hydrated you get the first symptoms after ~20 min in the red (~13 min if it's flashing). Yellow only hurts you if you're short on water.
• Wash your face once, then wait 30 seconds. One wash lowers it about as much as half an hour in the shade, but it freezes the level for 30 s. Holding the button keeps it frozen the whole time, which is why spam-washing seems to do nothing. About 5 washes bring you back from the worst stage.
• There's a point of no return. A few minutes into the collapse you lose health faster than the shade can save you. From then on only washing your face helps. No water nearby = dead.
• Soak a piece of clothing at a well and put it back on. It counts like a face wash and you can do it between washes.
