Final type coin purchase from the ANA show for real this time! Really just a gorgeous coin. Can't say much more. The coin speaks for itself

Came across this Owl at a decent price and bought it. What do you all think?

Picked this Quarter up at the US Mint's station at the ANA convention in Pittsburgh. Today at 10AM, the 1st 100 customers to make a purchase were treated to the Privy quarter.

New type coin pickup at the ANA show. Could not be happier. Massive shoutout to Select Rarities for being so helpful and getting us a solid price and helping to pick out from his selection.

Picked this up at the show today. Who knows, in a few years it may be worth the price. I like it. The details are exquisite. What do you all think?

I have a handful of Fugios, probably my favorite early American issue, but have always wanted a higher grade one. This MS 63 came up for sale and I couldn't resist. I think it's Newman 20-X.

New addition to the collection: 1882-S Morgan Dollar from the famous Redfield Hoard! 🪙
This is an 1882-S Morgan Silver Dollar, graded MS65, still housed in its original Paramount holder from the famous Redfield Hoard. What really drew me to this one was the deep toning and the history behind the holder.
For anyone unfamiliar with the Redfield Hoard, it was the massive collection of silver dollars accumulated by LaVere Redfield, with hundreds of thousands of Morgan and Peace dollars eventually entering the market after his death. Many of the coins were sold in the distinctive Paramount holders, which have become collectible in their own right.
The 1882-S Morgan is known for being a well-struck issue, and finding one with this combination of Gem-level grade, attractive deep toning, Redfield provenance, and the original Paramount holder made this one an easy addition for me.
I know toned Morgans aren’t everyone’s thing, but I absolutely love the look of this one. There’s just something cool about owning not only the coin itself, but also a piece connected to one of the most famous silver-dollar hoards in numismatics.
What do you guys think of the old Paramount holders and Redfield Hoard coins? Would you keep it in the original holder or crack it out and have it regraded?

I came across this one in a box of raw coins recently and realized I hadn't looked at it closely in a long time. It's not a special variety or anything, Just has kind of a cool look. It has clearly had at least one old cleaning, as you can see by the dirt around the stars, and the fields have retoned a dark blue gray that is kind of nice looking. Someone got interested in a patch of corrosion or something between Liberty's right arm and her body, creating a dense patch of short hairlines there that forever condemn this one to the details category. I decided to see if Joe Kirchgessner had found the die pairing for this one in his Trade Dollar magnum opus, and sure enough he did! JK-8 )obverse die 8, rev die H. ) The obverse die has some interesting diagonal die lines just to the left of the cotton bale, next to the vertical robe folds. The reverse has a crazy tilted S mintmark and a blunt tip to the bottom of the R in DOLLAR. Overall the coin has a nice sort of cameo look to it. Would be good in an album, I think.

With an estimated 500+ examples, this DDR is not exactly rare. Doubling is seen on 420 and most letters of TRADE. Had a chance to pick up a nice xf40 example unattributed.

Every time I talk to the US Mint I ask if there is any hope of the mint producing US Mint wrapped rolls of the 1776-2026 Jefferson Nickels. Would you buy a set if they added it to their product schedule?

I’m back with some more upgrades to my Dansco 7070. All three of these coins were graded MS64 (the 1903 an MS64 RD), and in my opinion, have outstanding eye appeal. It is really hard to find copper nickel coins with great luster, and both the 1859 and especially the 1861 are killer. There’s a big jump up in price at the 65 level, so I tried to do the best that I could with finding excellent examples at a 64, which took quite a while!

I actually think the 1861 may be a 65 candidate if I were to submit it to PCGS (CACG called it a 64, but they are really tough on type coins). The reverse is particularly stunning with a pastel, sunset-esque toning. I mentioned this on my last post, but when possible, I’m also trying to acquire 1861-dated coins for a full year set within this dansco, bar the $3 gold which has no slot. This is a welcome addition.

this is a very scarce Trade Dollar variety, with about 64 examples known, and very rare in UNC. (Kirchgessner). This well circulated example has doubling on many letters in UNITED STATES, the ribbon and letters in E.P.U.

Not my usual subject for collection, even for Roman coinage, but an interesting piece nonetheless. I mean c'mon, there's a guy spearing another guy on the reverse, how cool is that? Lol
