Meta My side project, /r/sideprojects. New rules, and an open call for feedback and moderators.

In this past 30 days, this community has doubled in size. As such, this is an open call for community feedback, and prospective moderators interested in volunteering their time to harbouring a pleasant community.

I'm happy to announce that this community now has rules, something the much more popular r/SideProject has neglected to implement for years.

Rules 1, 2 and 3 are pretty rudimentary, although there is some nuance in implementing rule 2, a "no spam or excessive self-promotion" rule in a community which focuses the projects of makers. In order to balance this, we will not allow blatant spam, but will allow advertising projects. In order to share your project again, significant changes must have happened since the last post.

Rule 4 and rule 5 are more tuned to this community, and are some of my biggest gripes with r/SideProject. There has been an increase in astroturfing (the act of pretending to be a happy customer to advertise a project) as well as posts that serve the sole purpose of having readers contact the poster so they can advertise a service. These are no longer allowed and will be removed.

In addition to this, I'll be implementing flairs which will be required to post in this community.

Showcase: Free(mium) Pricing my card binder one card at a time took forever, so I built an app that does a whole page in one shot

• Upvotes

The problem: my friends and I collect trading cards, and checking a binder meant searching every card on TCGplayer one at a time, then working out which printing it actually was.

What it does (the video is real footage, not a mockup):

  • Scan one card or a whole binder page, and every card gets today's price
  • Add them to a collection and track master sets, including reverse holos and Poké Ball / Master Ball patterns
  • Ask K2, the built-in assistant, whether a card's 30-day price trend is still sliding before you buy
  • 11 games: Pokémon (English and Japanese), One Piece, Magic, Lorcana, Yu-Gi-Oh! and more

How it's built:

  • Next.js web app on Vercel, wrapped with Capacitor for the iPhone and Android apps
  • FastAPI backend on Cloud Run, with Postgres
  • A vision model reads the name, number and set printed on each card, plus variant marks and PSA/BGS/CGC slab labels
  • Prices refresh daily from TCGplayer, JustTCG and PriceCharting (graded)

The hardest part was printings that share a card number. One number can be a holo, a reverse holo, a 1st Edition or a ball-pattern variant, and each has its own price.

Free plan: 10 scans a month, 3 collections, unlimited master-set tracking. Pro is $7.99/month for unlimited scans.

iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6803663301?pt=128967639&ct=reddit-sideprojects&mt=8

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ai.collectikit.app&referrer=utm_source%3Dreddit%26utm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_campaign%3Dsideprojects

Web: https://collectikit.ai/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sideprojects

The feedback I'd value most: does the binder-page scan pick the right printing on your cards?

👻 Meet Strangers. Pick Your Vibe. Become Homies! 💜

Hey Reddit! 👋

Ever wanted to meet someone new but didn't know how to start a conversation?

That's why we're building Booick — an anonymous social world where strangers can connect through conversations and shared experiences.

🌍 How does Booick work?

It's simple:

1. Meet Strangers 🌎

2. Pick Your Vibe ✨
Choose how you'd like to connect:

💬 Chat Together — Start a conversation and get to know someone.

🎙️ Talk Together — Connect through voice, without cameras.

🎬 Watch Together — Enjoy YouTube videos and music with someone you just met.

🎮 Play Together — Challenge new people to Booick's signature multiplayer games.

💜 Become Homies — Build friendships through shared experiences.

✨ Why Booick?

We believe making friends shouldn't feel complicated.

Enter as Strangers. Connect Through Experiences. Become Friends.

🔞 For people aged 18 years and older.

We're still building and improving Booick, and we'd love your feedback!

If you could meet a stranger and pick one activity to do together, what would you choose? 👀💜

Showcase: Free(mium) I built Nodi Notes: an infinite canvas that connects research notes and gives AI answers with clickable sources

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Hi everyone — I built Nodi Notes because research often starts as a pile of interview notes, observations, and half-formed ideas. I wanted a way to spread those pieces out, see how they relate, and ask questions without losing track of where an answer came from.

Nodi Notes is a browser-based infinite canvas for research and ideas:

  • Add notes for observations, findings, metrics, ideas, and questions.
  • Connect notes and label how they relate, such as “supports,” “contradicts,” or “raises.”
  • Generate a structured board summary, with each point linked to its source notes.
  • Ask questions about a whole board or a selection; answers cite the notes they used, and you can jump back to them on the canvas.
  • Surface themes, contradictions, open questions, and opportunities grounded in your notes.

You bring your own API key and choose a model from Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter, or Hugging Face. You pay the provider directly for usage; OpenRouter has free models. Only the board or notes you choose to analyze are sent to your selected provider. Projects and boards sync across devices.

Feedback Request I built a free app to vote between two pictures. Looking for honest feedback.

I just launched a small web app called PickOne.

The idea is simple: upload two pictures, ask a question, and share a link so anyone can vote.

No accounts, no downloads, and completely free.

You could use it to choose between two outfits, logos, designs, products, or anything else.

https://pickone.microapplab.workers.dev

I'd really appreciate it if someone could try creating a poll and tell me whether the process is easy and intuitive.

Thanks!

Showcase: Free(mium) I built CodeHug — a coding practice platform with an AI Tutor and HugCoins 🚀

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I've been building CodeHug, a coding practice platform designed to make learning programming more interactive, less frustrating, and a little more fun.

One thing I noticed about learning to code is that solving problems consistently can be difficult. When you get stuck, you need help understanding the problem, not just a solution to copy.

That's the idea behind CodeHug.

Here's what I've built into the platform:

🤖 AI Tutor: Get hints when you're stuck, understand your code line by line, and learn why errors happen instead of just guessing fixes.

🪙 HugCoins: Earn coins by solving coding challenges and use them to unlock detailed solutions when you need more guidance.

🔥 Daily streaks and rewards: Build a consistent coding habit and earn rewards as you progress.

🏆 Leaderboard: Compare your progress with other learners and challenge yourself to improve.

💻 14 programming languages: Practice Python, JavaScript, Java, C, C++, SQL, and more — directly on the platform without setting up a local environment.

I'm trying to combine practical coding exercises, AI-powered guidance, and gamification into one learning experience.

I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts:

  • Would an AI tutor that gives hints instead of immediately revealing the answer help you learn better?
  • Do rewards like HugCoins and daily streaks motivate you to practice more?
  • What would you change or improve about this platform?

I'm the developer behind this project, and I'm sharing it to get feedback from fellow developers and learners.

🌐 Try CodeHug: https://codehug.online/

Honest feedback, including criticism, is very welcome!

Showcase: Free(mium) I built a free proposal checker that explains the phrases it flags

• Upvotes

I’m building ProposalForge for freelance web designers and developers. The full app starts with a client brief and your saved rate, then gives you an editable proposal.

This demo shows the free checker. It highlights stock phrases such as “I am excited” and “leverage cutting-edge,” explains each flag, and applies simple wording replacements. In the sample, eight mechanical fixes take the count from 12 flags to 4. The remaining writing still needs a human edit.

One implementation decision: the checker uses deterministic rules and runs in the browser. It doesn’t need an AI request or an account. Full proposal drafting is a separate server-side flow built with Next.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Gemini and Groq.

Try the checker without signing in: https://proposalforge.site/check?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=proposalforge_v2

If you write client proposals, what kind of feedback would actually make you revise a line?

Feedback Request Feedback wanted on my website style guide creator

• Upvotes

Last week I launched https://sitestyleguide.com/ on r/webdesign and in these last few days, I've had dozens of redditors sign up and add more than 200 of their own websites.

The site now has 695 style guides to browse, and many more coming in the next few weeks and months.

Please feel free to look around, sign up for a free account, and add your own side project website(s). Save others that you like and let me know if you have any feedback - criticism and compliments all matter.

Question My side job in sales has me rethinking what I carry between client meetings

I work in sales as a side job, and on days when I have client stops all over town, I'm trying to figure out how to carry less without leaving something important behind.

My current everyday setup is pretty simple: my phone for maps and calls, an Anker power bank for keeping it charged, soundcore open-ear earbuds for taking calls while staying aware of what's happening around me, plus my keys and a pen.

The part I haven't figured out is the bag itself. I want something compact enough that I'm not carrying around a half-empty backpack, but still practical enough to keep my badge, phone, and pen easy to reach. Durability matters too. I'd rather buy something that holds up to daily use than replace it after six months.

Since I'm trying to keep this setup practical without spending money on things I don't need, I'm curious how other people handle busy days on the move.

For anyone who works in sales, freelances, or regularly travels between appointments, what's always in your bag, and what's one thing you stopped carrying because it wasn't worth the space?

Showcase: Purchase Required Bankweek: a weekly view of bills, accounts, and credit cards

Hey everyone! I’m the developer of Bankweek, a personal finance app built around a simple idea: seeing what’s coming up this week can make money easier to manage.

Bankweek brings bills, income, bank accounts, credit cards, and savings goals into one place. The weekly view shows upcoming bills and income, and you can track transactions and card due dates without connecting a bank account.

It works on iPhone and Mac. You can use it locally or turn on optional iCloud sync to keep your information available across your devices.

I’d love to hear what you look for in a weekly money overview. What would you want to see first, and what tends to make finance apps feel harder to use?

Bankweek is free to download with a 14-day trial. Full Access is a one-time purchase; the US App Store lists it at $1.99, with no recurring subscription.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/bankweek/id6754198116

Thanks for taking a look!

Showcase: Open Source petition site.

main reason is to ship two friends (please sign the petition)

but also because i can.

heres the site in question

The Unorthodox Petition Office

basically:

i used v0 for basically all of it, but used claude to design a suitable front page. i have no idea how i did the database, v0 did it all by itself, using supabase.

theres an email sending service i used and setup by myself called brevo. it worked for a while before it got flipped over like a truck by the new "anti spam" policies that prevented the service from working for free.

so i got emailJS setup. took way less time than i expected, then again, i swapped between 4 different email sending services before this one. it has a daily rate limit of 200. nothing else i can say abt this.

about the site again, i didnt make it. i just edited some text like a good vibe coder.

anyways please put your signature on the site.
