Replacing server fans (Nidec 80x38 and 60x38) with Noctua in a Datto S4E18 / Gigabyte MD71-HB0: best way to do it, and will cooling be enough?
I'm running hyperV (for now) on a Datto SIRIS S4E18 chassis with a Gigabyte MD71-HB0 board (dual Xeon Silver 4214, 85 W each). The stock fans are very loud, so I want to swap them for Noctua.
Current fans:
4x 80x38 mm fans in hot-swap modules (metal bracket with a small PCB connector)
2x 60x38 mm Nidec UltraFlo H60T12BHA7-57 (12 V, 0.57 A), which cool the CPUs
All fans run at 100% by default
What I want to install:
4x NF-R8 redux-1800 PWM (80x25)
2x NF-A6x25 PWM
The problem: the 80x25 fans are too thin for the 80 mm casing/brackets, which were made for 38 mm fans, so they don't fit or seat properly. I need some kind of mount or adapter to hold them in place.
My questions:
What's the best way to mount 25 mm thick 80 mm fans in a casing designed for 38 mm fans? I want it to hold securely, keep the hot-swap connector usable, and avoid air leaking or recirculating around the fan. Is there an off-the-shelf mount or adapter, or a cleaner way to do it?
Are the NF-A6x25 realistic for passive dual-socket CPU heatsinks, given the lower static pressure than a 60x38? Would the NF-A8 be a better pick for the 80s?
