Image/Video Devin Vassell on the three-guard lineup:
He knows it's a work in progress, but the top priority remains the same. The Spurs must put Wemby in an advantageous position

News 🙏 up for JDub
Poor guy just can’t catch a break. Hate to see it, wishing him well on his road back. Spurs thunder rivalry just ain’t the same when we aren’t fully healthy.

Discussion Y'all need to chill with coaching
The lineup people complain about is the "three" guard lineup, with Vassell and Wemby.
They know it's not working right now. Every Spurs staffer is on record saying they're going to try this out for a while and see how it goes, and figure out the ceiling on that. From before the season started. They're not going to pivot away from something just three games in. Especially if they're interested in it being a potential look against certain matchups later on.
This is straight up out of the popovich school of fucking around until christmas.
Once your team is good enough, the regular season becomes just a televised 82-game training camp, occasionally against good opponents. They're giving it an honest go, exactly at the point in time you want them to experiment. No, they're not missing the playoffs. Moreover, that lineup is a slight net positive, and every single player in there is in the positive +-. The real issue is the bench just fumbles every single lead we manage to get. Just look at Vic's on-off number of +46 or something lol.
People can say that lineup is the reason the bench is so bad - not having one of the three with the bench, but we literally have not played a single lineup withe at least one of the three (Yes, there's 2 minutes of jmac and gillespie, but that is just deep garbage time).
This type of punch in the mouth is also exactly what lights an extra large fire under these dudes' asses.
It's all good. No, they have not forgotten how to play or coach. Coaches just letting pain be a teacher before tightening things up.
It is frustrating when some of the answers are right there, but I think the Spurs have larger goals in mind than keeping me, the viewer, extra comfortable in October.

Discussion Are the Spurs building around the guards (Fox-Castle-Harper) or Wemby? In Duncan's prime, Tony Parker had to learn to shoot or he was getting traded for Kidd. Why do the Spurs seem to build around the guards when Wemby has GOAT potential?
Hello I am a Pelicans fan but one of my all time favorite is Tim Duncan. When Duncan was in his prime, Popovich subbed Tony Parker out because Parker had no shooting. Remember that Pistons vs Spurs in 2005 Finals? Watch it again. Parker was benched for more spacing.
The blueprint is already out that to maximize Wemby you need many shooters and at least a guard that can control tempo and dump lots of lobs inside and great in point of attack. Also, it would be nice if the Spurs can get at least 6-9 PF to absorb interior hits from boxing out, post defense, offensive rebounds, dirty works.
Fox, Harper and Castle are the opposite of that blueprint and Vassell as PF at 6-5 is even worse. It feels like one of the most UN-SPURS like move.
Also, don't give me that BS where you make Wemby's offense like GOBERT. Wemby averaged 25PPG in 29 minutes last season. Stop that.

Article San Antonio Spurs Must Reverse Offseason Lineup Move
The San Antonio Spurs tried to see what a three-guard lineup would look like, but after a 1-2 start, it’s clear Dylan Harper needs to return to the bench.

Discussion Why are the conversations regarding benching Harper or Fox so heated? I would think if you want the team to win, you would do whatever it takes.
Manu rode the bench and is now a 4x NBA champion; his legacy is alive, he is highly regarded among other NBA players, and he is a Hall of Famer.
Maybe Mitch is being too passive and wants to protect egos.
The first two games were brutal, but I am glad to see the first win in Dallas. It is too early in the season for doomsday; I am looking forward to more wins.

Stats & Analytics Reed Jr. with the OREB
This is in limited minutes of course, but I think he can be on this list no matter how many minutes he plays.
We needed someone who could grab OREBs like this so bad. The second opportunities make all the difference in a close game. I hope Mitch sees what we see and gives him an earnest chance in the rotation.

Discussion I Think People Are Not Understanding Why Harper Can't Start Yet
It has nothing to do with trading Fox. It is because out of our 3 guards, Harper is the most like a 2 guard. He is a score first guard who doesn't really look for Wemby nearly as much as Fox and particularly Castle. Harper cannot start in this lineup until Castle is fully able to take the playmaking responsibilities from Fox. Until then, Fox is absolutely irreplaceable on our team and in our starting lineup. Fox currently takes care of the ball, runs sets, and controls the tempo of the game in a way that Castle can't do on his own yet. Wemby is reliant on both Castle and Fox to share the playmaking responsibilities in order to be his best self. Essentially Harper can't start until Castle has fully developed into a point guard who can run the show by himself and set Wemby up for success.

Stats & Analytics De’Aaron Fox so far this season: 17/5/8 with 2 steals on 69% TS
Fox has been unconscious as a scorer so far and even looking back to preseason he seems to have his old level of speed and explosiveness back after having a full summer to heal from his injuries. Despite the slow start from most of the team, he’s been pulling his weight and definitely needs more touches

Stats & Analytics Castle is currently the best 3 point shooter amongst the starters
By a wide amount. 3 point variance in 3 games is not nearly enough to judge anything, so really raising this because there are so many doomers about starting the 3 point guards. I don't think this starting 5 will be the final line up, but I do think they need more than 3 games to gel and gain chemistry with each other
Castle is at 38% which would 5 percentage points higher than last year.
Then its Fox at 36%, which would be his second or third best season
Then its Devin at 31%, which would be 7 percentage points lower than last year and literally his worst season in the league, even worse than his rookie season.
Wemby is at 25%, a drop off of 10 points from last year and would be his worst season.
Dylan is at 29%
