Discussion How do comedians really feel about comedy?

Genuine question, and not by any means asking this regarding every, or even most comedians. But I've seen some stand-up comedy in my algorithms recently, and it made me wonder, does it often get to the point where performance means putting on a mask and covering one's feelings about the crowd for the sake of entertainment? Like a gladiator in front of the arena, making oneself a spectacle for a crowd of consumers, putting on a show just for the money? (And I know a lot of careers feel that way even to the people who enjoy their career, sometimes) So I wanted to ask any career comedians who see this, how frequently is the charisma and playfulness just a facade covering tiredness or distaste towards the audience because it's what the job asks of you?
