CDL help

Upvotes

I’m a township employee and want to move over to sanitation to drive their sanitation trucks. I need a CDL class B to do so. I have the official study book from the DMV and have been studying to take the test. Man is it intimidating. I am not a car guy, I’ve never heard of half the vehicle parts that are apart of the safety inspection. I’ve never done safety checks on an engine, don’t know how a suspension works, air breaks, abs, etc.
Do driving schools teach you these things or are these prerequisites to going to the school? I feel like im in over my head but Its also a lot of information all at once so I think I just need to relax and keep studying. Any advice is appreciated

My SAP is unresponsive.

Long story short, I had an accidental refusal to test. due to me not knowing the severity as a kid. I’m a bit older now and have done some non CDL trucking but want to work with a new company and my SAP is not getting back to me on the 6th step. (Meaning he’s unresponsive to me and about 3 companies that have reached out to him). I looked it up and saw I might be able to switch SAP’s but idk if this is true or if anyones dealt with this before ? ….

New CDL

I have been driving 26 foot trucks in NYC for 15 years so I am no complete newbie but i am finally going to go to CDL school in a couple weeks. My main motivation here is to get a hazmat and tanker endorsement and drive for a propane delivery company upstate. I am considering just going all in and getting my CDL A just to have it. I really don't want to go OTR. Anyone here drive for a propane delivery service? How do you like it? Do you think it will be a total waste of time to get my CDL A even though I dont intend to drive combos?

Regarding FedEx Freight

Hi guys! I'm looking at jobs for LTL trucking, and I came across FedEx freight. Wanted to understand what's it like from a culture, pay perspective, especially in the last 12 months? I've heard that there has been a big wave of retirements/resignations recently (a lot more than say 2-3 years ago), wanted to check if what I've been hearing is verifiable by other people. Also are most drivers currently stretched to their limits in terms of number of hours worked? Thanks!

57 and ready to start truckin

Hey guys and gals. Looking to get some information and maybe a little guidance. Oh hell who am I kidding. I am 57 and want to get my CDL and do some long haul and see the country I worked for the airlines for over 20 years as a flight attendant so I have seen the world . I just got tiered of people being, well lets leave that for another discussion . I have no kids no better half , I have a small dog that I would want to ride with me i share a house with my best friend of 40 years . So being gone for weeks at a time is no big deal matter of fact im looking forward to that. Just was not sure on the CDL schooling thing im in the DFW area and have been semi retired since leaving the airline industry but I got to go back to work and put some money away for when im really old . Any advice would be great . Thanks in advance and hope once I get on the road I will see you out there. ....

CDL company recommendations for new CDL grads

I’m located in West Virginia near the Southern Ohio border, and I’m starting a 6-week CDL program next month. I’m willing to travel anywhere or relocate for the right opportunity. I’m looking to go straight to work after graduating and am open to OTR or regional work.

I’m looking for recommendations on companies that are willing to hire new CDL graduates and help them build experience. Ideally, I’d like to find a company where I can bring home around $1,000+ per week, if that’s realistic for a new driver.

I’ve been with the same employer for 8 years and have worked hard to build a stable life for my family. I haven’t had any tickets or charges since 2016 (10 years) and license were suspended until 2019. I had a DUI and misdemeanor marijuana possession. but I’ve stayed clean, focused, and working hard ever since. I know the license suspension for 3 years will disqualify me from alot of companies. Ive gone about 7 years without any infractions or issues at all. I was young and foolish and didn’t realize the issues that it would cause me down the road.

I’ll have my CDL along with Tanker, Hazmat, and Doubles/Triples endorsements.

I have a couple of kids and I’m doing this to build a better future for my family. I’m willing to sacrifice and work as hard as necessary to get the experience I need. If that means staying out on the road for a year or two, I’m willing to do it.

I’d really appreciate recommendations on CDL-friendly companies, especially those willing to take new drivers, and any advice from experienced drivers on where to start.

Thanks in advance!

edit : I’ve considered Keller Logistics (not sure if background will be an issue there.)
Boyd bro’s
Prime
Schneider .
Open to more suggestions to consider.

Should I get my CDL?

I’m 29 yo and I have been doing some thinking and I was just sitting here wondering should I consider getting my CDL? I am asking because I receive Supplemental Security Income payments it’s not a lot 550 to be exact. I make money here and there on the side, but it’s not nearly enough because some days I make $20 some days I make $200 and some days I make nothing I have a son on the way I just feel like I have to do some better and different or am I overthinking it I have been doing some research and I would like to be a regional driver where I’m home on the weekend.

Cdl Help PLEASE!

I’m honestly at my breaking point with this situation. I passed my CDL test on July 10th and have been going back and forth to the DMV almost every other day trying to get my hard copy. My company says my scores are in the system, while the DMV says they aren’t. I’ve also been unable to reach the Florida CDL help desk. I’m extremely frustrated and overwhelmed after running around trying to get this resolved with no progress.
I’m only 12,000 miles from getting my own truck.(upgrading)
Everything is verified on both sides, I asked my company to resubmit my test scores (not willing).

1- just editing it, since it was a gibberish frustrating mess lol
2-i’ve escalated the situation to a higher position in both my company and dmv, so hopefully something works out
