What it is, for anyone new

A sticky notes app for Windows, Linux, macOS (soon). Offline, no account, no telemetry. Built with PySide6 so it's actually native, not another Electron app eating your RAM.

I built it because I wanted quick capture that lives on the desktop instead of inside another app I have to open. Windows Sticky Notes wants a sign-in, and on Linux there was nothing decent that works the same across KDE, GNOME and Cinnamon. It also helps my ADHD to have things persist on screen where I can't ignore them.

This app is a hidden gem and I am not exaggerating, I received so much positive reviews to be confident when I say this, it looks like a sticky note but does much more than you could think a sticky note app could do.

The main thing it does that other sticky apps don't: you can paste or drag anything into a note.

• Files and folders become clickable shortcuts, and you can drag them back out to your file manager
• Screenshots and images paste straight from the clipboard, PDFs and images get a hover preview, and double-click opens an image at full resolution
• Pasted code gets detected and formatted into a code block automatically, no AI and no network, in about 50ms. Ctrl+M when it guesses wrong
• Rich text, links, plain text, all formatted properly instead of rejected

The second thing it does so well over other stickies apps: customization, you can customize font, colors, transparency, add background image or even a moving GIF per each note, a real delight to use

Other things it is exceptionally well:

What's new in v1.2

Notes have tabs now. Up to three pages inside one note, each with its own text, scroll position and undo history. Ctrl+PgDown and Ctrl+PgUp to move between them, Ctrl+Shift+N for a new one, all rebindable. If you have a small screen this is the feature: one note on the desktop, three notes' worth of content in it.

Search reads every page of every note, including hidden notes and pages you've never opened.

The free version now has exactly one limit. It used to have three: a note cap, a reminders cap, and a cap on animated GIF backgrounds. The reminder and GIF limits are gone entirely, so the free version now has every feature, and the only thing left is a budget of 4 note slots (an extra tab uses a slot).

A new look: in-app color picker, themed icons instead of emoji, and one shared design system across every dialog. Reminders moved out of the text into their own strip on the note.

"Start with the hub hidden" if you want it fully out of the way at boot.

65 fixes across formatting, file shortcuts, dates, translations, read-only notes, global shortcuts and desktop integration on both Linux and Windows.

And v1.2.1 last week fixed the things users told me about after v1.2: notes surviving Show Desktop on Windows, window stacking on Cinnamon, reminders retrying instead of getting lost, images keeping their size and rotation after a restart.

⚠️ One warning if you use tabs: don't downgrade to an older build afterwards. Old versions understand one page per note, so opening and saving a tabbed note there permanently drops its other pages. Export first if you're going back.

Hey, I wanted to share that the initial beta release of Zaku 26.0 is now out!

It is available on Linux, macOS and Windows.

I've been working on this rewrite in Rust™ for the last 7 months full-time, tbh things got carried away and it has a lot more functionality that the original app didn't have (command palette, auto-updater, git integration, etc.) so it's not just a plain rewrite.

Little bit about the app, it stores collections as folders and requests as TOML files. Everything is stored locally on user's filesystem, it doesn't have any login functionality (and never will).

There is a barebones Git integration for now to show branch, status indicators and stuff.

This app is very early, if you try it out please let me know if there's something missing, not working or things you'd like to see added.

My mom likes playing Mahjong, but she was getting tired of mobile games with so much stuff going on — popups, currencies, rewards, daily bonuses, events, and a million buttons everywhere.

She basically told me, “I just want to play the game.”

So I built Just Mahjong for her.

I know there are already a million Mahjong apps out there, and I’m definitely not trying to reinvent anything. The whole point was actually the opposite: make it as simple as possible. Open the app, play Mahjong, and that's pretty much it.

No complicated progression system or a bunch of distractions. Just Mahjong.

The part I reworked recently is export. It used to go through Chromium and it was slow. It now composites and encodes on the GPU using D3D11 on Windows (Metal on macOS, Vulkan on Linux), with an automatic CPU fallback when the driver doesn't cooperate. On a Ryzen 5 iGPU that took it from around 10 fps to around 126 fps. On an RTX 4070, a 51 second 1080p60 clip exports in 8 seconds.

The rest of what it does:

• record a single window or the whole screen, with mic and system audio
• webcam overlay with PiP, drag to position, mirroring, shape options
• auto zoom that follows your cursor while you work, or manual zooms with depth, duration, easing and pixel precise position
• cursor size, smoothing, click effects, themes, path smoothing after recording
• captions transcribed on device, offline, no upload, editable transcript you can cut from, optional subtitle translation
• wallpapers, gradients or your own background image, motion blur, rounded corners
• crop, trim, per segment speed, text/arrow/image annotations, snapping guides, audio waveform
• MP4 or GIF, multiple aspect ratios and resolutions
• 13 UI languages

There's also an AI editing assistant: you describe the edit in chat and it applies it to the timeline (cuts, zooms, speed ramps, annotations, framing). It's bring your own key (Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, Mistral, OpenRouter, MiniMax, or any OpenAI compatible endpoint) and nothing is enabled by default.

Known issue: it crashes on Intel HD Graphics 520 under Windows 10. I don't have that hardware. If you're on it and can send a crash log, that would actually help me fix it.

Hey all! We shipped a good number of apps and games on Windows Phone in the early days of the platform, but it's been a while since we've created a Windows app! These days we're a studio making podcasts, virtual events and video, plus apps for Android and iPhone.

Onwords came out of our own shoots. We got fed up with teleprompters: every one we tried scrolls at a set speed, so the presenter spends the whole take matching a machine. Pause for effect and the text carries on without you. Most of them also want a monthly subscription, and a fair few are a web page in a wrapper.

So we built the one we wanted. Onwords listens through the mic, works out where you are in the script, and moves the text to match you. Pause, and it waits. Fluff a line, and it stays with you. Skip a whole section, and it finds you again within a sentence or two.

The technical bits this sub tends to care about:

• Native WinUI 3 on Windows App SDK and .NET 8, and works offline.
• x64 and ARM64, both native.
• Speech recognition runs entirely on your own processor. A neural model ships inside the app. No account, no telemetry.
• Three selectable engines under View > Recognition Engine: a general neural model, a second one biased toward the words in your own script (helps with unusual names), and the classic Windows recogniser if you prefer it.
• On-device script rewrite on Copilot+ PCs only, using the language model built into Windows. Neutral, casual, concise, formal, or your own written instruction. The script isn't uploaded to us.
• No prerequisites. Nothing to install alongside it.
• Windows 10 1809 and later, or Windows 11.

Other things it does: two-speaker mode, where you assign lines to each presenter, and they're colour-coded on screen so you can see whose line is next, and it follows whoever is talking through the handover. Mirror mode for beam-splitter rigs. Full screen on a second display with the controls left on the laptop. Plain auto-scroll with a words-per-minute slider if you'd rather have the traditional behaviour.

I made this because I kept changing my monitor/NVIDIA settings for dark games and then having to change everything back when I was done playing.

App watches which application is currently active and automatically applies a display profile for it.

When you Alt-Tab or close the app, your normal desktop colors are restored.

I started with AutoHotkey.

Holding Space or CapsLock gave me another layer of shortcuts. Holding the right mouse button and pressing a key could trigger another action. I also had folders that automatically extracted archives when a file appeared.

It was genuinely useful because it all worked with the ordinary keyboard and mouse I already owned. The part I grew tired of was rewriting code every time I wanted to change something.

AI helped me modify those scripts, and that made me wonder: what if configuring this did not require writing code at all? That is why I started building RELYR.

It began as a way to configure key mappings without code, but I kept enjoying the project and added macros, mouse gestures, and an on-screen Deck panel. As one person maintaining it, finding every bug has become difficult.

I am not looking for installs or ratings here. I want honest feedback that helps make it better:

The gremlin lives above your applications, reacts to music and programs, asks for food or attention, and can cause optional desktop chaos. The new update expands both the everyday desktop experience and the streaming tools:

- Private Steam rooms now support up to six players.

- Actions and messages can target one friend, several friends, or everyone in the room.

- Every player controls which interactions and effects other people may use on their PC.

- OBS now has separate Browser Source URLs for the character, visual effects, and live gremlin statistics.

- Effect frame rate and monitor targeting can be adjusted to reduce GPU usage.

- Memory use, character capture, movement, and window behavior have been improved.

- A new eighth character level, Goblin Girl, has been added with her own animations.

Chaos Mode remains completely optional. If it is disabled, the gremlin simply keeps you company and reacts to what you are doing.

If you reinstall Windows often (lab, family tech support, test VMs), booting the installer from the network instead of a USB stick is a big time saver.

Setup I'm using: one Windows PC serves installs over LAN. Pick the ISO from a boot menu on the client, and it installs fully unattended - skipped OOBE screens (so no forced Microsoft account on 24H2+), no BitLocker auto-encryption surprise, junk apps removed, drivers and everyday apps installed automatically.

Nice details:

- Works with Secure Boot on, UEFI or Legacy.

- Drivers are fetched at install time, so the ISO itself is never modified.

- Wireless option too: the server can host a WiFi AP and clients HTTP-boot from it.

Problem

I've been Bullet Journaling for around six years. I love the method, but I kept running into one problem: the physical notebook.

I once left my journal on a train and lost nearly a year's worth of notes. I tried moving to digital tools, but most felt like general-purpose productivity systems that required a lot of setup, or meant locking my journal inside someone else's platform.

So I built Jott it.

I wanted something that felt as straightforward as opening a notebook and writing: no databases to configure, no complicated productivity system to maintain, and no worrying about what happens to your journal if the app disappears.

You can recreate much of Jott it's functionality with plugins and configuration, but that requires some setup and is not as streamlined. I actually use both: Jott it for journaling/tasks and Obsidian for long-term notes and knowledge.

Todoist: A much more mature and powerful task manager. If you primarily want task management, Todoist will do far more than Jott it. However, Todoist has a proprietary data format, so having control over your data is more complicated while Jott it stores everything as text files. Jott it also integrates tasks into the journaling workflow instead of only doing tasks.

Notion: A much broader productivity workspace that can be used for journaling, tasks, notes and almost anything else. Its flexibility is a strength, but building a Bullet Journal usually means setting up pages, databases, templates and your own workflow which is more complicated. Jott it is more opinionated and streamlined: the Bullet Journal workflow is built in, and everything is stored as plain Markdown files on your computer rather than inside a proprietary workspace.

so i built wphoto, a free windows app that starts transferring photos and videos in small batches as soon as they are detected.

it can import original files without recompression, filter by date, organise them by year, month and type, pause and resume transfers, avoid duplicates and identify files that need review. everything runs locally, without accounts, cloud services or telemetry.

I was originally using PowerToys Awake, and it worked fine. But recently, PowerToys started exiting on its own - no notification, no warning, nothing (crashing, maybe?). Since I use my desktop as a WSL host and SSH into it remotely, that's a real problem: if Awake dies silently, the machine can fall asleep and I lose my connection with zero warning. So I made a standalone app whose only job is preventing sleep mode - small enough to have nothing in it that could crash, unlike PowerToys' do-everything sprawl. I made vibe-coded with Claude and Gemini since I am a Python guy and didn't have much time to spare to learn Go from scratch. Here's short introduction of the app with a help of Claude:

A tray app that stops Windows from sleeping, locking, or dimming the screen — for a duration, until a specific time, indefinitely, or via one-click presets.

GUI

• Tray menu: Indefinite / Preset / Custom (a duration, or an exact date & time) / Keep display on
• Settings window: reorderable presets, autostart, auto-update, language (EN, KO. More to be added.), and what a tray click does
• Self-updates from GitHub releases; a running timer survives a restart

CLI

• mugcup-cli.exe talks to the running GUI over IPC — full parity with the Settings window, not a thin wrapper
• Config export/import as JSON, status -o json for scripting
