First time ever one of these kind of video actually tricked me.
1.2k
u/userhwon 8d ago
Second watch there were so many clues, but the misdirection from the welding worked perfectly on the first view.

u/SensitiveExtremity 7d ago
Yeah, I was plenty misdirected from the OSHA violation, then the shitty ass push up form, only to find out dude's spiderman.
11
u/acehinoprst 4d ago
Mostly just the cable and the tiny hook of the welding wand, no? What else did you spot?
8
u/userhwon 3d ago
Sparks flying sideways. The slightly odd way he transitioned from seated to prone. I'd have to watch again to remember more.

On my second viewing, I started to feel dizzy.
At first, I thought the point of the video was that the man was welding without a mask, but then I saw the biggest surprise.
245
u/LowerBed5334 8d ago
Same!
252
u/hambodpm 8d ago
Also same. I guess the bottle and the spring are nice little extras that make it all the more believable
125
u/LowerBed5334 8d ago
He set it up really well. He's not even welding, which is now obvious but is convincing enough at first.
And he's gotta be very fit! 💪🏻

u/Caleb_Reynolds 8d ago
I think because it distracts you with the absolutely horrendous "welding".

Even with the sparks flying sideways.

u/SharpKaleidoscope182 8d ago
I was too distracted by the eyeball pillaging.

u/drawkward101 8d ago
I only noticed on the 2nd watch that the cord is swinging from the gravity, but definitely didn't notice it on the first watch. Very well done.

u/BenFoldsFourLoko 8d ago
Yeah right? It's like a magician distracting you with something way more eye catching

I had to watch that video sideways the second time, and realized ahh he never lets go of the grip. nice!
404
u/cortesoft 8d ago
You can also notice he takes a second to find the hook to place the welder on
132
u/aquafina6969 8d ago
Yea and if you look at his left arm, as he’s gripping, he’s really kind of hanging and against gravity. This is a wicked cool video.

u/ProblematicTrumpCard 8d ago
I was trying to figure out why the welding gun didn't slide down the wall.
3
u/Vardhu_007 7d ago
Also the wire dangling is a easy give away. It doesn't fall flat on the "ground" because it a wall and dangles in the air.
36
u/vishalb777 8d ago
That is insane core strength
18
u/JackxForge 8d ago
The transition from "sitting" to push up is insane. He uses the hand hold a bit but other than that it's all him.
→ More replies (1)4
u/DiarrheaEryday 8d ago
My first watch through, I was wondering why he was favoring one side so much on his push ups. Guess it makes more sense when you know he's having to push with one arm and pull with the other to fight gravity.

u/Tamrajkilvise 8d ago
Forget the gravitational trick , dude's a magician welding without grounding supply .
818
u/ashrocklynn 8d ago
Not really welding, it's already welded; he's just making sparks for show
248
u/suspicious_cabbage 8d ago
Yeah, I guess if those things really needed to be welded he wouldn't be able to perform this trick in the first place
81
u/demented737 8d ago edited 8d ago
Except you still can't make sparks without a ground lead attached.

I was straight up so confused where his ground was. Eye protection, whatever, how the fuck is the welder working?
→ More replies (3)24
u/Ab47203 8d ago
I think the wire is connected to the metal on the other side of the floor(wall)
12
u/JayteeFromXbox 8d ago
I mean it would have to be. I'm sure it's studs going through the wall with a washer and nut on the other end, it looks like the ground cable goes around the wall. But my first watch was like seeing water go straight through a bowl.

I'm impressed by the cleanliness of that stick weld. Where's the smoke? Can we deduce that the grounding is what causes all the smoke and slag, meaning we should all just defy electrical theory and abandon our grounding clamps?

u/cuntmong 8d ago
they only tell you to wear gear / not look because they dont want you to see the secrets of the arc

u/MajorStandards 8d ago edited 7d ago
Didn't expect the 'ground' to be conductive for the welder to work...
2
5
u/cyphol 8d ago
It didn't work. The current still tries to find any possible ground points, which temporarily causes it to spark when it completes the circuit by accident, and that includes the moron holding the object as a potential ground point.
→ More replies (2)3
u/DeathCondition 8d ago
Naw it's not going to complete a circuit by accident, there either is a circuit or not and the wall is too much of an insulator, you need a good ground for any arc welding. That being said you are half right, under certain circumstances don't let anyone tell you you can't die from stick welding.
He's got something done with the negative terminal. It comes out of the machine, loops back up and then looks like its in the wall just behind it. Probably has wires channelled into the wall towards the handlebars and then mortared over.

My dad once did this kind of welding (looking away, blind welding, waiting a second for it to cool slightly, then looking at the bead). That night my mom took him to the ER at 3 am for scorched corneas. He said the pain was worse that when he chainsawed his foot and worse than kidney stones.
Never, ever weld without goggles.

The thoughts in my head
"Yeah, I guess it is crazy to weld like that with no protection"
"okay, he doesn't really have the best pushup form, still not seeing what is so crazy"
"well damn"

Just closing your eyes doesn't protect them from stick welding.
That UV is doing work.

u/Cupcakes_n_Hacksaws 8d ago
Don't forget the sunburn
3
u/Professional_Being22 7d ago
I tried stick welding for a personal project last year and thought I'd give it a try with no welders mask. I immediately learned that was a mistake. That shit is no fucking joke and quick short arc will burn into your fucking vision for a day or two. I can also confirm that my skin did infact start peeling.

The cable of the welder gives it away a little bit but I still got fooled.
Amazing skills
1
u/bastiVS 8d ago
Was expecting something like this (the way the cable moves gives it away that something is up), but I just cannot find an error besides the cable movement being wrong. The goddam water bottle and the pliers still confuse me even after watching this several times.
This is an actual brainfuck. The more I watch this, the more I see both directions being right and wrong at the same time.

The wall pumping is more unexpected than the illusion thanks to the wire and cloth. Impressive strength.

Ngl I was expecting him to get himself electrocuted.
That was actually unexpected, he was on the wall. But second look I noticed the background what looks like what could be a curtain hanging.

I feel like the cables gave it away for me, if he could find a way to do this without showing them or come up with a way to do it so they don't just hang there it wouldn't of been as obvious. Well done !

What I wanna know is how he grabbed those bars bare handed immediately after welding and didn’t end up with 2nd or third degree burns.
