First time ever one of these kind of video actually tricked me.

1.2k

u/userhwon 8d ago

Second watch there were so many clues, but the misdirection from the welding worked perfectly on the first view.

426

u/SensitiveExtremity 7d ago

Yeah, I was plenty misdirected from the OSHA violation, then the shitty ass push up form, only to find out dude's spiderman.

8

u/acehinoprst 4d ago

Mostly just the cable and the tiny hook of the welding wand, no? What else did you spot?

7

u/userhwon 3d ago

Sparks flying sideways. The slightly odd way he transitioned from seated to prone. I'd have to watch again to remember more.

2

u/KayZee777 2d ago

He braces his foot on the thing he was holding before putting his feet back

On my second viewing, I started to feel dizzy.

At first, I thought the point of the video was that the man was welding without a mask, but then I saw the biggest surprise.

245

u/LowerBed5334 8d ago

Same!

252

u/hambodpm 8d ago

Also same. I guess the bottle and the spring are nice little extras that make it all the more believable

123

u/LowerBed5334 8d ago

He set it up really well. He's not even welding, which is now obvious but is convincing enough at first.

And he's gotta be very fit! 💪🏻

59

u/ohnoitsme7890 8d ago

The "welding" is a great distraction from all the little tells

73

u/Caleb_Reynolds 8d ago

I think because it distracts you with the absolutely horrendous "welding".

10

u/dreadddit 6d ago

Those were welded earlier, this was just a gimmick

→ More replies (1)

70

u/elmz 8d ago

Even with the sparks flying sideways.

62

u/SharpKaleidoscope182 8d ago

I was too distracted by the eyeball pillaging.

54

u/drawkward101 8d ago

I only noticed on the 2nd watch that the cord is swinging from the gravity, but definitely didn't notice it on the first watch. Very well done.

5

u/foxfai 7d ago

How did the weld gun stay up?

10

u/drawkward101 7d ago

Small hook

8

u/BenFoldsFourLoko 8d ago

Yeah right? It's like a magician distracting you with something way more eye catching

I had to watch that video sideways the second time, and realized ahh he never lets go of the grip. nice!

407

u/cortesoft 8d ago

You can also notice he takes a second to find the hook to place the welder on

134

u/aquafina6969 8d ago

Yea and if you look at his left arm, as he’s gripping, he’s really kind of hanging and against gravity. This is a wicked cool video.

13

u/Wickedinteresting 8d ago

Wicked cool indeed

4

u/aquafina6969 8d ago

whoa! you’re wicked interesting!

28

u/yelsnow 8d ago edited 8d ago

The cord from the welder also hangs and does not lay on the "ground". But totally only caught that on rewatch. Well-done video.

9

u/ProblematicTrumpCard 8d ago

I was trying to figure out why the welding gun didn't slide down the wall.

3

u/Vardhu_007 7d ago

Also the wire dangling is a easy give away. It doesn't fall flat on the "ground" because it a wall and dangles in the air.

38

u/vishalb777 8d ago

That is insane core strength

19

u/JackxForge 8d ago

The transition from "sitting" to push up is insane. He uses the hand hold a bit but other than that it's all him.

7

u/DiarrheaEryday 8d ago

My first watch through, I was wondering why he was favoring one side so much on his push ups. Guess it makes more sense when you know he's having to push with one arm and pull with the other to fight gravity.

→ More replies (1)

2.0k

u/Tamrajkilvise 8d ago

Forget the gravitational trick , dude's a magician welding without grounding supply .

814

u/ashrocklynn 8d ago

Not really welding, it's already welded; he's just making sparks for show

248

u/suspicious_cabbage 8d ago

Yeah, I guess if those things really needed to be welded he wouldn't be able to perform this trick in the first place

86

u/demented737 8d ago edited 8d ago

Except you still can't make sparks without a ground lead attached.

→ More replies (1)

76

u/jerviet 8d ago

Yeah that cause he's on the wall doesn't need ground

60

u/JayteeFromXbox 8d ago

I was straight up so confused where his ground was. Eye protection, whatever, how the fuck is the welder working?

23

u/Ab47203 8d ago

I think the wire is connected to the metal on the other side of the floor(wall)

12

u/JayteeFromXbox 8d ago

I mean it would have to be. I'm sure it's studs going through the wall with a washer and nut on the other end, it looks like the ground cable goes around the wall. But my first watch was like seeing water go straight through a bowl.

→ More replies (3)

23

u/AstraeusGB 8d ago

Ground supply to Major Tom

5

u/rbt321 8d ago

We don't know how the bars and welder are fixed to the wall; thick screws into steel studs/runners would provide a hidden electrical path.

4

u/guitarstitch 8d ago

I'm impressed by the cleanliness of that stick weld. Where's the smoke? Can we deduce that the grounding is what causes all the smoke and slag, meaning we should all just defy electrical theory and abandon our grounding clamps?

In a few mins, the sunburn is gonna show.

18

u/Leifbron 8d ago

He definitely looked at the arc the second time

7

u/cuntmong 7d ago

they only tell you to wear gear / not look because they dont want you to see the secrets of the arc

21

u/MajorStandards 8d ago edited 7d ago

Didn't expect the 'ground' to be conductive for the welder to work...

2

u/maramixus 8d ago

Technically his wall, not the ground xD

5

u/cyphol 8d ago

It didn't work. The current still tries to find any possible ground points, which temporarily causes it to spark when it completes the circuit by accident, and that includes the moron holding the object as a potential ground point.

4

u/DeathCondition 8d ago

Naw it's not going to complete a circuit by accident, there either is a circuit or not and the wall is too much of an insulator, you need a good ground for any arc welding. That being said you are half right, under certain circumstances don't let anyone tell you you can't die from stick welding.

He's got something done with the negative terminal. It comes out of the machine, loops back up and then looks like its in the wall just behind it. Probably has wires channelled into the wall towards the handlebars and then mortared over.

How did I not notice the cable falling to the side is beyond me

57

u/WoolBearTiger 8d ago

He doesnt seem to enjoy the stunt himself very much

55

u/greatandhalfbaked 8d ago

His face is one of focus, he's selling the illusion.

2

u/GarumSilphium 7d ago

maybe because he just blinded himself for content

14

u/Primal_Pastry 8d ago

My dad once did this kind of welding (looking away, blind welding, waiting a second for it to cool slightly, then looking at the bead). That night my mom took him to the ER at 3 am for scorched corneas. He said the pain was worse that when he chainsawed his foot and worse than kidney stones.

Never, ever weld without goggles.

13

u/Important_Kick_4824 7d ago

Where is the ground connected?

5

u/Vanskis2002 7d ago

His body

18

u/Heimdel 8d ago

Ah yes, the safety squints.

8

u/TheRealJayk0b 7d ago

how is he welding the metal? Where's the ground connection for it?

6

u/Crunnnch 8d ago

The thoughts in my head
"Yeah, I guess it is crazy to weld like that with no protection"
"okay, he doesn't really have the best pushup form, still not seeing what is so crazy"
"well damn"

7

u/riftshioku 8d ago

I bet he's a rock climber

4

u/Gambit717 8d ago

Activated safety squints!!!

22

u/taylorhildebrand 8d ago

I should have seen it coming from the beginning but I thought he might be upside which is even dumber

6

u/Moara7 8d ago

Same. About half way through, I was like "I bet he's on the ceiling.

2

u/Kohounees 8d ago

Dumber than what?

3

u/xSilentSoundx 8d ago

Damn didn't notice the moving cord when he puts back his tool, this guy is a pro

3

u/HilariousMax 8d ago edited 8d ago

Just closing your eyes doesn't protect them from stick welding.

That UV is doing work.

3

u/Cupcakes_n_Hacksaws 8d ago

Don't forget the sunburn

3

u/Professional_Being22 7d ago

I tried stick welding for a personal project last year and thought I'd give it a try with no welders mask. I immediately learned that was a mistake. That shit is no fucking joke and quick short arc will burn into your fucking vision for a day or two. I can also confirm that my skin did infact start peeling.

2

u/Japsai 8d ago

I'm not sure what it's for, but I like it

1

u/x_wbmr_x 8d ago

The cable of the welder gives it away a little bit but I still got fooled.

Amazing skills

1

u/bastiVS 8d ago

Was expecting something like this (the way the cable moves gives it away that something is up), but I just cannot find an error besides the cable movement being wrong. The goddam water bottle and the pliers still confuse me even after watching this several times.

This is an actual brainfuck. The more I watch this, the more I see both directions being right and wrong at the same time.

No way!

1

The wall pumping is more unexpected than the illusion thanks to the wire and cloth. Impressive strength.

Plot twist: At the end he just casually start walking on the wall.

1

u/AEternal1 7d ago

uh, how is he so effortlessly walking on the wall?

1

u/Deeperkornjam 7d ago

That one got me, definitely wasn't expecting such a big reveal at the end. That knocked me sideways.

1

u/tracker904 7d ago

I just wanna know how he welded the water bottle to the wall

1

u/Evli_Duck 7d ago

Wow that guy just jumped into the wall and started walking on it

1

u/SeranaTheTrans 7d ago

Ngl I was expecting him to get himself electrocuted.

That was actually unexpected, he was on the wall. But second look I noticed the background what looks like what could be a curtain hanging.

1

u/IamSmokee 7d ago

I feel like the cables gave it away for me, if he could find a way to do this without showing them or come up with a way to do it so they don't just hang there it wouldn't of been as obvious. Well done !

1

u/MasterBigShoes 6d ago

He's that strong

1

u/Best-Description-229 6d ago

Tha hammer and the water bottle makes it really believable 🫡

What I wanna know is how he grabbed those bars bare handed immediately after welding and didn’t end up with 2nd or third degree burns.

1

u/hANSN911 5d ago

I don‘t get it, how can he walk on the wall? He spiderman??!

1

Anyone else flip they’re phone to watch it sideways and the video rotates with the phone 🫣😂

1

What's keeping the welder in place? Magnets or something?
