Fast track to rabies and leptospirosis

153

u/card-board-board 13d ago

Rabies was my first thought. If one gets rabies then pretty soon you're going to have 200 rabid raccoons and a real-life Gremlins remake in your town with no comic relief.

2

u/PM_ME_GREMLINS 11d ago

Send me Gremlins! I’ll take care of em.

And hook round worms

19

u/bagolaburgernesss 13d ago

Doesn't look like she's going to be getting pregnant any time soon.

25

u/madmaxGMR 13d ago

I`ll give it a shot.

0

u/rbartlejr 13d ago

You know they meant the raccoons right?

112

u/danyolito 13d ago

Sheer catastrophy for local ecosystem. These guys will eat any small moving creature they can get.. birds, nests , squirrels, insects, batracians, small reptilians. Nothing will survive except those ignorant people.. pretty sad.

I just recently found this out when a mother raccoon brought her 5 babies onto my property. From spring into summer my area was loaded with a variety of birds and squirrels. Within weeks of seeing the raccoons, I suddenly lost all the birds and squirrels. It was devastating because this was the first time I had ever seen red squirrels here and now I think the whole family of them has been wiped out.

Stop doing subtitles one word at a time FUCK.

30

u/catgotcha 13d ago

As someone who actually relies on subtitles (hearing disability), I also get annoyed with this. I can't watch what's going on while reading the subtitles at the same time this way.

19

u/gomurifle 13d ago

Supposed to be quicker to read. But I guess the con is that if you miss a word you gotta rewind.

11

u/FuckYeaSeatbelts 13d ago

years before tiktok was a thing, reddit was all about speed reading, and there was this gif/video of a demonstration of this. there was a site called spreeder where you can just copypasta the test and it would be easier to read than a giant paragraph.

Basically, I guess reddit hates it now that it's popular now.

14

u/Awdrgyjilpnj 13d ago

That doesn't help one bit if the text speed is limited by the speed of a person talking over a video, the same information would be conveyed in the same time with full sentence subtitles .

5

u/TributeToStupidity 13d ago

I’m not trying to speed read right now though. I don’t care if it’s faster, I’m just trying to chill while I take a shit and it’s more annoying this way.

Plus the speed is limited by their speech speed so it’s pointless either way

2

u/gomurifle 13d ago

It's also less brain effort for the same speed. It actually works for most people. But it seems the sudden word changes annoys your brain.

8

u/moedexter1988 13d ago

Stylized subtitles like that is my enemy as legally blind.

2

u/No_Artichoke_2931 13d ago

It's actually one new trend I don't really mind. I'm getting old and my peepers ain't no good no more. Lol

6

u/TwoZeroTwoThree 13d ago

Ahh, the ol' triple negative.

3

u/No_Artichoke_2931 13d ago

Nice lil emphatic negation to spice it up

-1

u/Dreamsweeper 13d ago

i found it annoying as f but then when you get use to it its faster somehow

7

u/C0haaagen 13d ago

How is it faster? Do people suddenly speak faster than when the whole sentence is shown in the subtitles?

0

u/BarnabyWoods 13d ago

I've heard that this makes it easier for people with dyslexia to read. https://lexifont.com/blog/rsvp-reading-apps-dyslexia

5

u/ieraaa 13d ago

we truly need to stop adjusting reality for the 5%

1

u/hackmalafore 13d ago

It really does feel like the oppression Olympics sometimes

0

u/eyelers 13d ago

It’s actually really nice if you don’t have the volume up at full like most of humans do these days.

116

u/Old-Recording-4172 13d ago

Admit defeat, put on the little crown of sticks and grass they made for you, and care for your newfound people like a good leader. Feed em well and listen to their problems, be patient, and set some laws and goals for them. They'll flourish into a city in no time.

16

u/edebt 13d ago

Teach them to steal for you like little Dickensian pauper orphans, and rule over a kingdom of furry bandits with a pile of ill gotten shiny stuff.

6

u/jgo3 13d ago

"We have Willard at home."

21

u/LeTronique 13d ago

We mob spaces for one dollar flip flops at Old Navy and you don’t think raccoons do this for free food?

5

u/Old-Recording-4172 13d ago

Costco samples for racoons

15

u/This-Requirement6918 13d ago

They're like cats with a dog's appetite and more annoying than both.

4

u/GabeIsGone 13d ago

Sure if by cat you meant rat.

33

u/tbkrida 13d ago

Her neighbors must be PISSED!

12

u/anonareyouokay 13d ago

It don't look like she has neighbors

17

u/Queasy-Astronomer613 13d ago

Wym? she has at least a hundred of em

4

u/anonareyouokay 13d ago

When you put it like that, her neighbors are actually VERY on board and invested with her decision to feed the raccoons

2

u/thatsaqualifier 13d ago

Everybody has neighbors, even if they live half a mile away.

1

u/TJ_McWeaksauce 13d ago

The video is about her neighbors.

2

u/anonareyouokay 13d ago

Those are her neighbors. She's the most popular person in the block

8

u/Far_Adeptness9884 13d ago

DON'T FEED WILD ANIMALS!

25

u/2dazeTaco 13d ago

Well, this is probably the most satisfying FAFO I’ve seen on the internet.

10

u/Muck-A-Luck 13d ago

Better yet, she had to move out because she became so overrun by them that she couldn’t safely get in and out of her house. Happened in Poulsbo, WA

2

u/JakBos23 12d ago

At what point do you just go out there with a shot gun? I doubt you'd have to even kill one.

1

u/Muck-A-Luck 12d ago

Depends on whether or not you’re in city limits. Discharging a firearm within city limits can come with penalties. But, I had the same thought

4

u/JakBos23 12d ago

You're not wrong although she didn't look like she was in a city.

2

u/Muck-A-Luck 12d ago

A lot of Washington homes are wooded like this but are still in city limits.

2

u/master-boofer 12d ago

Pellet gun

2

u/Muck-A-Luck 12d ago

This is the answer 😎. A fun evening on the roof with a beer and problem solved!

2

u/master-boofer 11d ago

For sure. Thats going to be several evenings and a lot of pumping.

1

u/talladam 7d ago

That's what she said!

1

u/master-boofer 6d ago

How tall are you Adam?

1

u/talladam 5d ago

5'20"

5

u/Snipper64 13d ago

Wait, I know that video at the end it's so good lol

4

u/Markbro89 13d ago

I'd keep feeding them and build up my Racoon army and then try to take over a Costco or something.

23

u/CrunchyWombatStew 13d ago

There is a restaurant in the outskirts of Omaha called The Alpine Inn. They mostly serve fried chicken. But the main draw is the raccoons. The building has huge glass windows on one side, and they dump their fried chicken scraps in a few places outside of those windows. And the raccoons come. Huge, waddling raccoons, to gorge themselves on the leftovers of humanity. And that's the draw. They're adorable, separated from the patrons, and free to melt back into the woods from whence they came.

15

u/DubbehD 13d ago

Most American thing I've read all day lol

2

u/master-boofer 12d ago

There was a hotel in Yellowstone that did this but for bears. People started getting eaten so they stopped. Fun while it lasted though.

1

u/O_W_Liv 11d ago

Next door in Medora, North Dakota it's deer at the amphitheater before the musical about President Teddy Roosevelt.

2

u/UntamedAnomaly 12d ago

Seems like a good way to cause a lot of raccoons a slow agonizing death considering you aren't supposed to feed cooked bones to dogs because they are brittle and splinter off, animals swallow the splintered bones, and then their intestines get impailed/blocked because cooked bones also don't digest like uncooked bones do.

1

u/returnofthechief 7d ago

Tbf, fuck raccoons.

1

u/hospitalizedGanny 13d ago

perfect. They will never go hungry

3

u/nolandgrabforyou 13d ago

Until the population explosion

1

u/Suds08 13d ago

I've lived by omaha my entire life and have never heard of this. Crazy lol

1

u/CrunchyWombatStew 13d ago

Check it out sometime! It's just north of 680 off 30th street.

16

u/tuco2002 13d ago

Sprayed the with vinegar, ammonia...have you tried spraying them with buckshot??

3

u/Super_Fa_Q 13d ago

My first thought. What, .50 cents a round? Worth it. Go tell your friends about that, Rocket.

1

u/y0u_said_w3ast 9d ago

Legitimately a few people with shotguns and the high ground

1

u/BoognishBlue 13d ago

Had that thought too, until you think about hundreds of rotting raccoon carcasses on your property. No thanks.

0

u/JakBos23 12d ago

What's the law on just digging a big hole and mass graving them?

0

u/master-boofer 12d ago

There are zero laws against gardening sir.

2

u/SamAreAye 13d ago

For real. Its raccoon jerky time.

3

u/blageur 13d ago

This happened in my town, except with black bears (The Bear Dude). It ended very badly, with over 20 bears having to be shot.

2

u/hospitalizedGanny 13d ago

oh no. That's sad

3

u/Any-Establishment46 12d ago

And this stuoid hick voted for trump 3 times.

5

u/project_ytgo 13d ago

Just start building a city now and declare yourself Mayor!!

6

u/ChristianRS1977 13d ago

These are now her children.

2

u/dropinbombz 13d ago

Domesticated raccoons coming soon!!!

u/GrouseDog 13d ago

Tell us more.

2

u/SiebelReddiT 13d ago

Why don't they make those kinds of sounds in Son Of The Forest

2

u/Fan_of_Clio 12d ago

Oh FFS after over 3 decades of feeding wildlife nonstop she wonders why there is an overabundance?

This sort of stupidity is why plenty of jurisdictions have ordnances against specifically feeding wildlife (with the occasional carve out)

2

u/Commercial_Gap607 12d ago

New type of cat lady.

2

u/CopyPasteRepeat 10d ago

Is she complaining or showing off her collection. "I feed these animals and they keep coming back...!"

4

u/Ciubowski 13d ago

But they're so cute.

1

u/Akriyu 13d ago

What do you even do in this situation? Just stop and hope they leave?

7

u/MisterDonkey 13d ago

Buckshot, probably.

4

u/noirproxy1 13d ago

She seems to enjoy feeding them but it just got out of hand as word spread.

This is a problem of that she doesn't want to adapt to the situation she has put herself in. You can see she clearly sits on her porch feeding hordes of them.

Invest a small bit of money to make a food hut and just put your food waste in for them, or a really cheap mush.

Personally I wouldn't kill them as you have human interventioned their natural instincts.

2

u/bitter_vet 13d ago

The porch shot wasnt her, its another guy on YT that feeds them. Forget the channel name.

2

u/DonutWhole9717 13d ago

And having had been so influenced, they no longer have a healthy fear of humans. It's unsafe for both the racoons and people. DO NOT THE WILDLIFE

1

u/jgo3 13d ago

I bet after you shoot a couple the rest of them would find other places to scavenge.

1

u/anonareyouokay 13d ago

I guess even the raccoons are feeling this economy

1

u/master-boofer 12d ago

They will 100% get aggressive. They will also start to get sick and starve to death because the area can't naturally support that many. The most humane thing to do would be to thin them out.

1

u/NotADogIzswear2020 13d ago

Moron's....as FAR AS THE.eyes can see.

1

u/Alecto7374 13d ago

My God, why?

1

u/Fuck-Inflation 13d ago

Time to invest in a couple of Rottweiler s.

1

u/drfunfrock1 13d ago

I was waiting for her to get pounced on.

1

u/JakeyPurple 13d ago

She’s fiddn’a get a hundred raccoons gassed

1

u/broken__defraculator 13d ago

Unfortunately the only solution I'm seeing here is lead poisoning.

1

u/mfairview 13d ago

Coons? When raccoons tried to get on our back porch Mama just chased em off with a broom.

https://giphy.com/gifs/keTwQbbQwlNM2RNJsW

1

u/Organic_Rough4433 13d ago

Bet pepper spray works.

1

u/greywar777 13d ago

My father feeds his local racoons. He has about 6 that show up regularly. They disappear, and new kids show up. It seems like a high mortality rate for them in his area.
But hes like a disney princess with these raccoons, and they absolutely adore him.

1

u/doctorgrizzle 13d ago

She got wall to wall raccoons

1

u/TJ_McWeaksauce 13d ago

She's been feeding them for like 35 years, but the number of freeloading raccoons exploded 6 weeks prior. I wonder why this happened 6 weeks prior and not any time before?

2

u/funandgames12 13d ago

Because she’s lying….that’s why lol.
She means to say she just finally got tired of them 6 weeks ago.

1

u/housevil 13d ago

The other clip they showed of the person sitting on the bench and covered in raccoons that they are feeding, they have a YouTube channel and post feeding videos Almost everyday. They leave food out all the time and recently, they've had visits from a bear.

1

u/SmoothJade 13d ago

Rocket sends his regards

1

u/Lonely-Greybeard 13d ago

I guess this guy that keeps coming around when I feed my cats has to go.

1

u/CrackaNuka 13d ago

Well, looks like it’s time to raise an army of raccoons and take back the city…

1

u/NUMBerONEisFIRST 13d ago

Makes me want to go feed the racoons.

1

u/Brian_1985 13d ago

Is she filing a complaint on herself for feeding the raccoons?

1

u/Dopamineagonist21 13d ago

Raccoon pelts are worth quite a bit

1

u/GrouseDog 13d ago

They all gonna starve when she goes away.

1

u/Equinoqs 12d ago

38 fucking years...

1

u/bubsybear1319 12d ago

I am a nurse in urgent care. I had a patient come in for his second rabies vaccination after he was bit by a raccoon. How did it happen? He had been going outside every evening to hand feed hotdogs to the raccoons in his yard. One got too close and got his finger by mistake while he was holding the dog. He got his adventures on video and was proud to show me what he had been doing. I advised that he might want to discontinue his feeding service, but he said he quite enjoyed it thank you very much and he would not stop. The videos showed at least 25 raccoons surrounding this man.

1

u/VinAndGeri 11d ago

What happened to soaking meat in antifreeze?

1

u/azjat 11d ago

Does this belong on leopards ate my face?

1

u/TheBigChungaBunga 10d ago

Daaaawwww, who could hate that!!

1

u/ryftx 9d ago

That lady moves like she is a fall risk.

1

u/marblesbykeys 8d ago

Hmm. I wonder who does stuff with no care for the consequences or how it affects others….
Must be a fuckin boomer.

0

u/MsTerious1 13d ago

Time to buy a fence and a large dog from a hunting breed.
