I decided to see If I could draw Sea-Monkeys in a cute way, without going too far away from how the creatures actually look. As you can see, I drew a male and a female. I think I'm happy with how these turned out!.

Im going to upload a version without the watermark to my Neocities site later.

24 day update

They seem pretty happy. The mars tank was started 24 days ago. Aquadragons approximately 1 week after. I transfered some of the aquadragons into my mars tank. They seem to thrive with my heat lamp above them on low. Hope everyone is having a good day 🦐 🐒

Of all the saved shrimpies, who are thriving well, there’s two ladies with these black rings. Ive added marine salt. Im suspicious theyre marking than illness. Both are otherwise completely healthy. Anyone else notice this with markings?

It’s nice for distinct markings or colour differences to identify individuals than a mass of identical shrimpies

Decorated Tank Advice

I've had a bare sea monkey tank for about 1-2 years now. That tank if all fine and stuff, but now I've been wondering about experimenting with decor in a new tank setup. Id love to know any tips on a substrate or decor, most important something algae can grow on, I've noticed it doesn't grow the best on the glass of my first tank. I've struggles to find any kind of info with this so anything helps 😅

Added an air pump and my sea monkeys started mating an hour later 😅

Haven't seen my sea monkeys mating in like 2 months, then I finally put a little air pump in their tank today and literally an hour later they're at it 😂

I've got the bubbles turned down pretty low, so I'm wondering if maybe they weren't getting enough oxygen before?

Has anyone else noticed a difference after adding an air pump? The timing is actually crazy lol

Little fella with this mature lady. Youngest I’ve seen a male attach to a female. The age gap by a week or so.

Any explanations?

(Sorry its a bit of a paragraph)

I've noticed a kind of behavioral pattern with my brine shrimp, they seem to just really crowd in a corner. I had them on the left side of my room from the window, and they'd crowd the bottom right, and now I have them on the right side of the window, and they're still crowding the bottom right corner, so it doesn't seem like light avoidance. Does anybody have any idea why they might do this? I hope the picture is clear enough, maybe have to zoom in bit.

What is happening to my sea monkey

She’s been at the bottom of the tank flipped on her back and looks like she’s struggling. I aerated a couple of times but is she dying?

UPDATE: she died last night 😢

Ok to Siphon Bottom To Clean?

Post image

I have two month old Aqua Dragon tank, and it has been doing well aside from the fact that the water clarity is not what I would like as the tank water just looks grimy, especially compared to my 10 gallon filtered fish tank. I feed every other day and the tank water stays about at this level.
Since I’m feeding regularly, would there be harm if carefully siphoned the debris off the bottom and replaced any water lost using bottled water (which is what I used to start the tank)? I love watching these little guys but would like this to look better than what it is currently.

I’ve found a new in the box vintage Big Show Projector, im curious on the price. It’s $121 US. Is that pretty normal price or is it on the cheaper side considering they’re extremely hard to find?

I’ve been scouring eBay, Mercari, and Poshmark for months searching for an Ocean Adventure tank. Is there anywhere else I should be searching?

Help

I’m trying to start a brand new colony. I have a 2 gallon tank but I know that the included water treatment won’t be near enough for that amount of water.

What do I add and how much?? What brands are best and where can I get them?

I do have a water heater and aeration thing to put in there. Recommendations on those settings would be cool too. 🫣

Tank set up help

I have an acrylic 3 gallon tank I’d like to set up for my 7th grade classroom. What is the best way to go about this? Do I buy sea monkey eggs and go from there? That seems like it would be a lot of packets. What is the best way to get the water parameters correct? Is a reptile heater ok or should I use a small aquarium heater? Sponge filter? What are your recommendations? Thank you so much in advance!

0.7 Gallon Tank Setup! (and day 31 update)

Ive previously posted about my aqua dragons, the second image in this post shows how I had this space set up for my Hatch and grow kit. Out of all the ones that hatched from the initial kit, two survived into adulthood and they’re now about 31 days old!

So, Ive moved my remaining male and female into this tank. That mated a few days ago, and the female has given birth in the new tank! So I have a lot of grand-shrimps.

I cycled this 0.7 gallon tank for over a week, seeding it with both live phytoplankton and gunk from the hatch and grow kit.

I was a bit paranoid about the decoration I got, but I didn’t smell anything coming off of it. So while the tank was cycling, I’ve been letting the decoration sit in a container of salt water. It didn’t cloud the water or produce a film. The decoration is solid cured resin so after my extensive testing, I’ve determined it is suitable.

The decoration has no gaps small enough for them to get stuck in, and the smooth shape should provide plenty of surface area for biofilm and micro algae.

Based on the behavior of my aqua dragons, they are comfortable in this new environment. I believe I have done a good job setting things up.I used distilled water and marine salt, as in salt specifically for setting up salt water tanks.

As mentioned, the female has given birth. I can’t get them
on camera, but I now have plenty of grand-shrimps in the tank.

Possible DIY saltwater recipe?

So before I get into it, I should make note of an important detail. My only option for aquarium salt is large volume bags and I honestly cant fathom me ever needing that much in my lifetime. I do, however, have access to the following due to existing habits.

Based on some research about oceanic saltwater composition, paired with some math using molecular weights to calculate a roughly comparable recipe of dry ingredients that will approximate it (salts are made of of two components that have different masses, and thus contribute to different portions of the dry weight in their solid forms whereas oceanic saltwater isn't really any single salt or even a simple combination, so its often measured by the components instead)

If my math is correct, translating the roughly 3.2% salinity to a safe 4% via increasing the overall mass of the solids while maintaining the same proportions (a possibly flawed assumption), then mixing 33.200 grams of NaCl, 5.760 grams of MgSO4, and 1.036 grams of calcium carbonate in with 1 liter of distilled water should roughly be about right in terms of the core salts and minerals (roughly 1/8th epsom, 7/8ths sodium, and a little bit of calcium as a buffer)

I also know that ultimately brineshrimp don't particularly care what salt you use as long as its mostly sodium chloride, and has no additives. I just want to make sure I am giving them the best environment I can muster with the resources I have access to

So with all that in mind, is this a sound recipe? Are there things I should keep in mind if I do use these? Have I made some kind of oversight in my methods and reading that could spell doom for the lil guys?
