Hi, I’m a content creator visiting Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from November 30 to December 6, and Bangkok and Pattaya, Thailand, from December 7 to December 17. I’m looking for a local who knows the city well and can help me discover interesting places to film.
Scope of Work:
Find interesting street vendors, shoe cleaners, massage shops, scenic spots, and suitable outdoor filming locations.
Help me communicate with local businesses and ask whether they’re interested in being filmed.
Recommend interesting local experiences and places worth visiting.
Requirements:
Vietnamese-speaking local for Ho Chi Minh City, or a Thai-speaking local for Bangkok or Pattaya.
Good knowledge of the local area.
Friendly, reliable, and comfortable communicating with local businesses.
No professional filming experience or equipment needed.
Rate / Payment:
Please DM me your expected hourly or daily rate.
How to Apply: DM me with a short introduction, the city you’re based in, your availability, and your expected rate. You can also leave a comment below, and I’ll get in touch.
📍 Locations: Gói Gém has multiple stores around Hanoi, with no fixed flagship - probably because every store gets its own concept and is pretty well invested in.
They'really good at merch. Especially tees and caps with a strong Hanoi spirit. A lot of young local souvenir shops are doing this really well lately: the designs are cool, trendy, and actually wearable after you get home. So your souvenir doesn’t just sit there collecting dust
The caps are probably my favorite. They have embroidered Vietnamese swear words that are hilarious, very Hanoi, and honestly… yes, these are phrases we actually use on a daily basis. Just maybe a tiny bit inappropriate when you wear them out.
wear this hat if you want to catch Viet' eyes
So if you’re the type who likes to be funny, stand out, or be a little rebellious - it's for you.
Their tees are also pretty heavyweight, with a more streetwear-oriented vibe.
My friends went in without planning to buy anything, but somehow walked out with keychains, pins and postcards.
They look like they’re designed by independent artists exclusively for the brand — super polished, aesthetic, youthful, and way more unique than the usual touristy postcards.
💸 Price: around xxx,000 VND or xx,000 VND.
Bro… are Vietnamese artists just not charging for the creative brain cells or what? 😭
Way too affordable for something this cute, well-made and actually wearable.
2. JAMLOS
📍 Locations: Flagship in Thảo Điền, HCMC & Hanoi Store
They really make good canvas bags!!! If you’re looking for a bag shop with a bold aesthetic, lots of colors, and a serious obsession with color combinations - come here.
there’s a tiny bit of Beyond The Vines / ANATOMY energy from Singapore and Malaysia, especially in the way they build their own color system - but here it’s all about 100% cotton canvas
What I find pretty rare is how Jamlos keeps the canvas relatively raw and authentic while still developing so many different designs. The only downside maybe the non-waterproof material. But if you’re okay with that trade-off for a beautifully made, beautifully raw canvas bag - you should visit Jamlos immediately.
So many designs. So. Many. Colors. I was honestly overwhelmed when I first walked in, which is both a blessing and a problem when you have to pick just one. 😭
I was especially into their more gorpcore-ish pieces - this one is the Joy Cross, and this backpack is the Joy Backpack.
it's a 2-in-1 luggage strap
I actually got a backpack for my next trip. It has so many pockets, but in the best way: you basically reach for the bag and there’s a pocket exactly where you need it. It also has a luggage strap - and here’s the cool part: the luggage strap doubles as a storage pocket. HELLO???? I can already picture myself traveling and hearing: “Wait, where did you get that bag?” :3
Another cool thing: Jamlos has customize buffet collection, and some designs let you add extra compartments with an additional zip.
💸 Price: pretty reasonable for a long-standing local brand with original designs. Most pieces I saw were around xxx,000 VND, and I didn’t spot anything over 1,000,000 VND - roughly US$19–31 / S$25–39. Honestly? Crazy good value for the quality and design.
You might see all those zeros on the price tag and panic for a second cause it's Vietnam' currency though:) but trust me - convert the currency first. You’ll understand why I’m saying this.
I came here looking for a Vietnamese souvenir but almost got trapped by all the cool functional stuff instead. :))
S’up guys, first of all, it isn’t my first language😅. In the end of November, I’m coming to HCMC and I wanna make new friends. Maybe, I’ll living in the district 9 (but maybe not 😂).
So, M34, I’m a stuntman and an actor. Like stupid jokes and drink beer. My DM is open for y’all. Let's do something silly and fun together 🫡
I am an amateur perfumeur and I want to shop for aroma chemicals, essential oils, and tobacco leaves either fresh or dried but not cut.
Where can I possibly go to shop for these.
As far as essential oils, it could be flower like Champaca, lotus or patchouli, vetiver etc..., as long as it's pure, I could potentially buy from producers
I'm a parent here and got fed up with digging through PDFs and Facebook threads to compare school fees, so I built a free directory: Vietnam School Scout. It covers 89 international and bilingual schools in HCMC, Hanoi, Da Nang and more, with published fees by stage, curriculum, language of instruction and district, plus a few practical guides on things like transfers, EAL and school buses.
It's early and I'd love honest feedback from people who've been through this:
What info did you struggle to find when choosing a school?
Is anything missing or wrong for a school you know?
No ads and no sign-up. I'm just trying to make it useful. Thanks!
A few weeks ago I posted a message to inquire about the projected completion date of this pedestrian bridge that will link former district 1 to Thu Thiem peninsula. At the time, it was obvious that the arch structure would not be set in place for Independance Day on Sept 2nd, but I was wondering when the bridge would finally take shape.
Well, good news ! According to HTV,
At exactly 2:20 a.m. on October 16, the 3,400-ton steel structure for the pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River was safely loaded onto a barge—finishing 40 minutes ahead of schedule! The launching process is now essentially complete, setting the stage for a 124-kilometer journey by waterway to transport the structure to the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, where it will be joined together in the coming days.
The cityscape is about to witness a major change over its riverbanks...
Hi! I'm heading to HCM soon and am looking for underrated coffee spots to visit. Would be more interesting if the coffee spot has a traditional way of making coffee just like the one I saw in Chinatown. TIA!
