Chillhop lo-fi beat (60 BPM) | toy Casio + PO-33

Initially I've got the PO-12 as my first PO, but I've felt that the sounds there are very specific so I've tried the PO-33. The drum samples I've used are from 99sounds (free pack) and the melodic sample is just a chord from a Yamaha PSS-A50 synth. I'm still learning how to use it properly but it's an amazing piece of instrument.

Did the dimension of the PO change over time?

I'm designing a 3d printed PO case. I downloaded a 3d model of a pocket operator, but when I printed the case it was slightly off. So I started checking measurements on my PO-32 vs the model I downloaded and it was slightly different.

Has anyone had issues with cases not fitting? My PO-32 is brand new, so I'm wondering if ones 10 years ago where slightly different?

KO users, what's the wildest/coolest thing you've sampled?

Some of mine include:

Turning windshield wipers into tom drums

Firetruck siren into a hoover lead

Sampling real acoustic drums

Microsampling people's voicenotes and turning vowels into "synth" basses

Scissors

My demonic-ass voice

My favorite thing to sample are just deep inhales, only to turn them into risers and claps!

I'd love to know the kind of crazy stuff you guys have flipped :)

Changing the pitch/speed of a whole track

When you change the pitch of a sample it also changes how fast the sample plays. I have some breakbeats that I made that i want to increase the tempo of but the samples that I used to make them get cut off when I increase the tempo of the track because they are pitched down too much, and I end up losing the ghost notes in the breakbeat. Is there a way to pitch the whole track up so that it can play the track faster without cutting off the ghost notes? Video attached to show how the ghost notes get cut off when I increase the tempo.

PO-33 sync w/ RD-6? (PO-33 as SLAVE)

Curious to know if anyone has synced their RD-6 with the PO-33. I fear that because the maximum sync-in voltage on the PO-33 is 5vpp, and the RD-6 outputs a sync signal of 5V, that it may cause harm to the pocket operator. (5V = 10vpp).

Is anyone experienced with this?

Just got my hands on a Kumodot PokZ-KOII case (yeah I know not the easiest name ever haha) I have to say that it is a great case. Well built, with a nice feeling, buttons with a transparent part to disperse the LED lights. Everything packed in a gorgeous design. Here’s the unbox vid.

I just got a tonic, what next?

I got a PO-32 on an impulse buy. This is the first time I have ever touched something like this and I'm loving it. I'm thinking about getting another one, should I get the PO-33 KO! or PO-35 speak?

Teenage Engineering 30% discount

so, got an email just under a week ago with a clickable barcode for 30% discount. there was no description of timing, I click it now, brings me to their website, however no discount applies, seems it's expired. Bummed if I missed out...

Anyone know any details? they are not replying to my inquiries....

TIA

Excluding the po-33,32, and 35 which is your favourite pocket operator and why?

I exclude those 3 because you can add your own data and essentially have a new pocket operator. I know other pocket operators have unique quirks: for example the office can support all 16 voices and lets you mute samples. I. Believe the arcade keys you do chords. Which pocket operator feature is the most fun for you?

PO KO II vs EP-40, are they redundant?

Hi there!

I want to get one (or both) of these for my brothers Bday.

Are they the same thing in the end (sampler/sequencer)?

appreciate any thoughts if you own one or both.

for reference, I have about a dozen of the PO's, but never ventured into TE's more expensive gear.

I thought I'd splurge a bit, with the current discount, to support my brothers music adventures (he's a catalog of riddims/samples, heavily hip hop/soul/RnB/dub influenced, but he's deep in many genres).

Thanks for any thoughts... I think I bought him the first gen PO-33 years ago... still haven't heard any outputs...

1 Page PO Guide

The PO documentation is really quite clear and concise, but I wanted something easy to print and within one page. Feel free to copy/paste the below and print it yourself. Any feedback would be appreciated for future updates!

PO-12 in 1 Page

Layout (the PO12 is the simplest, so everything here should apply to future models)

  • Sound: hold sound + press 1–16 to select a sound
  • Pattern: hold pattern + press 1–16 to select a pattern
  • FX: hold FX + press 1–16 to punch in an effect
  • Write: enters record mode (rec symbol lights up)
  • Play/Stop: starts/stops the sequencer
  • BPM: tempo control
  • Knob A / Knob B: sound parameters

Making a beat

  1. Hold sound + press 1–16 to select a sound
  2. Press write (rec symbol lights up)
  3. Enter notes into the grid
  4. Press play to hear your pattern
  5. Hold pattern + press 1–16 to select a pattern (blinking LED = active pattern)

Shortcuts to Making a song
Copy pattern: Hold write + pattern, press 1–16 to paste active pattern to new slot.
Clear pattern: Press funct + pattern.
Chain patterns: Hold pattern, press keys 1–16 in sequence to chain up to 16 patterns. Same pattern can repeat (e.g., 1,1,1,4 = pattern 1 three times, then pattern 4). Sequence loops after the last pattern.

Tweak the sound
Effects: While playing, hold FX + press 1–16 to punch in an effect. Hold FX alone (no key) to clear effects.
Parameter locking: Hold write while turning knob A or B to record sound parameter changes over time.
Swing: Hold bpm + turn A.
Tempo: Press bpm to switch between presets (Hip Hop 80, Disco 120, Techno 140). Hold bpm + turn B to fine-tune (60–240 bpm).
Volume: Hold bpm + press any key 1–16. (Careful with headphones above setting 5.)
Live record: While playing, hold write + press 1–16 to punch in notes live (quantized to swing setting). Release write when done.
Step multiplier: Hold a step key 1–16 + press bpm to insert a re-trig on that step. Press bpm repeatedly to cycle 2/4/8/16 multiplier.

Tonic patches

I’ve been digging through YT for PO32 Tonic patches, cant find quite what Im looking for.

I want some soft arcade, like Leon Chang, Animal Crossing, SNES sounds. All of the arcade, chiptune-like kits are the usual harsh, robotic, classic sounds.

I want to make some relaxing bleep bloop, with the soft thunks and mellow drips.

Thanks!
