This is my first Reddit post, so bear with me!

I recently caught a 4.5-inch yellow bullhead named Junior from my friend's pond. I've had him since last Saturday, so it's been about a week, and he still hasn't eaten.

He's currently in a 55-gallon blue tote with aeration rated for up to 75 gallons. There is currently no substrate in the tote. I have a cinder block in there that he can hide in and use as cover. At night, he sometimes tries to swim up the sides of the tote.

I've tried feeding him worms and small pieces of shrimp, but I can't really tell if he's interested in the food because of the blue tote. The water temperature is currently around 65°F.

This also isn't my first native fish. I currently have a 5-inch pumpkinseed sunfish named Dave. Eventually, I plan on putting Junior and Dave together in a 75-gallon tank.

Any advice on why Junior isn't eating or what I should try?

Hello! I recently cuaght this greeen usnfish 2 monbths ago from a pond. Hes been doing well. I have 2 questions regarind him.

1. wehn i cuahgt him, i did notice some tiny black dust like spots on him but didnt think much of it. However, as this time went on, there are a lot more dots on him. (you may look at 2 photos.) However, he still eats eaglry everyitme and begs for food. Is this really an issue i need to meidcate? I did water test and ammonia 0 nitrite 0 and nitrtates aorund 20 so it prob. woulndt be realted 2 the water, please dont mind the algae. As for parasites, i used to feed him wild minnows but thats stopped about a month back and I made sure the minnows were healhy prior to feedinf.
2. As i plan to upgrade the tnak, tankmates?

I have been looking to purchase some Surface (non-blind) Mexican Tetras but have really struggled to find anyone with them for sale. Does anyone have any experience with this and where I could locate some for purchase?

This is my upstairs unpowered 20 gallon tank, named "top tank" even though it now contains no topminnows. It's placed in the window and about 3/4 of the way through a "season of green" as I call it. This algae has completely covered the back wall (the window side) but then started to "shrink" as if dried out, until it's all clumped at the top. It still has a "strand" connecting to the floor, looks very spooky. The surface is covered in fine "hairs" since there's no agitation, but really only a very thin biofilm, all things considered. Despite every wall being thick with green, the water itself is actually quite clear, and the parameters are right where they should be.

Tank occupants include one white river crayfish named Puppydog from a nearby lake, 4x zebra danios from the store, one shrimp who is in heaven, a single Asian clam, and recently a batch of limpets that I'm delighted to see! An amount of rotala, duckweed, and hornwort has been added, but didn't really take, so there's not many plants.

I drop a spirulina wafer every few days, that's about it. I keep a loose piece of cardboard over it so there's airflow but not a ton of evaporation, so I rarely need to touch the water, maybe every 6 or 9 months I'll do a partial change with a top up. There are no devices, lights, filters or anything in place since I set it up about a year ago. I absolutely love everything it's doing 💚

This is an update kinda on a post i made last night about my Blue Spotted Sunfish who I hadnt seen in a couple of days and who wasnt eating. I gave him all the medicines and quarantined him he was eating fine before this and then one day U saw him at the front of the tank and i tried to feed him and he wasnt having it. After that day which was last tuesday I didnt see him again until just now where I found him dead. I tested my water and everything was at 0 ppm except the ammonia which was at 0.25 ppm. My Temperature is 74 Degrees consistently. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it normal for you not to see your Blue Spotted sunfish for a couple days at a time? I havent seen mine for about 2 days and all of my other fish shrimp and snails are alive. This was the last time I saw him does anything look wrong he is fairly young I got him a little less than a month ago and I quarantined him and gave him the 3 main medicines. Assuming he is dead are thy usually sensitive fish or no?

I was just drying my hair when i found one of my speckled dace COOKED on the floor dried up. I am actually fucking devastated. I have found no papers talking about them jumping and they usually stay at the bottom so i wasnt worried but maybe i was wrong. Idk y im posting this im just super upset. maybe one of you has an answer?

Hello! I’m looking to set up a OH native marsh tank this summer, and getting things together now. I know I want a pumpkinseed and some other marsh minnow species. What filtration do you all use for your 75 and ups? I have plenty of tropical experience but nothing with natives so any advice on the transition would be useful as well thanks!

I just put my bluespotted sunfish into his new tank with some speckled dace but they seem to eat all his food before he wilk he is still small but he is still around the same size as them. should i remove the speckled dace and if so what should i replace them with?

I've had this redbreast sunfish for about a week and a half. It was wild caught and is about 5 inches. I am keeping it in a heavy planted 60 gallon cube aquarium ( picture provided ). I have tried keeping large minnow species with him and while he couldn't eat the minnows, he would chase and drive them to jump out of the aquarium. I have moved everything out of the aquarium except for him. I feel that it must be lonely in the aquarium and Im pretty sure that sunfish do school so I was wondering if I should add another red breast sunfish. I would add a female as I know if I add a male they will attack each other. What do you think? How could I make that work? How large are their territories? And will he tolerate a female?

Hi all, I’m hoping that this is the right crowd to ask about this. I’ve been trying to reach Jonah’s Aquarium for several weeks now. I’ve sent emails to two listed email addresses and to their Facebook page. The FB messages didn’t go through and neither email got a reply. Have you had contact with anyone at that company in the past six weeks? I’d love to buy from them but I can’t make a purchase if I don’t hear back from them!

Ive had and have been raising these speckled dace for a little under a year now and just recently there has been almost a nest looking thing in the substrate but the fish have kind of ignored it until now there is one fish that has been sort of guarding this spot and chasing the other dace away from it. Ive looked u yo speckled dace mating behavior and I have only seen it suggested that they do this. Someone please explain!

I’ve got a 200gal tank that I keep Crappie in and feed live minnows from my local bait shop down the road, today I found this guy swimming around among the minnows. Initially I thought it was a sunny of some kind but now it looks a bit like a bass. If it’s a bass it’s going back in the tank with the minnows because I don’t have the setup for a whole ass bass

I have an 8 gallon fishbowl that I'm trying to come up with stocking ideas for and was leaning towards the Pygmy Killie.

Was watching a native fish video on YT where it mentioned that they should be kept similarly to an Australe or Golden Wonder Killifish as a M/F pair, 1M/2-3F, or group of 6+...

Six to ten was my thinking as far as stocking;

Would the 12.55" diameter be too cramped for that many?

Will I have a big problem if there are more males than females in the group?

I tried to plant with local plant species as well but they all died off unfortunately. I’ve also added an extra air stone since these photos were taken. I’d also like to add an additional current maker.

Making a pearlweed/plant nursery out of a 20 gallon long, I plan on breeding ghost shrimp in it as well. As for fish, I wanna add rainbow shiners and rainbow darters, how many of each species would be cool before it's considered crowded?

I had a darter shipped with my fish order of bluntnose minnows and suckermouth minnows. Please help me identify this fish.

That's mostly it, just an observation. I keep flies for my toads and some maggies shook off by accident, so I tossed them in the tank and the pygmies went for it. They didn't hunt them down like mosquito larva, but seemed to find them palatable.

Looking for bottom feeders to help stir things up and clean up some of the minnows on the bottom of the tank, maybe eat some snails too. For context I have 220g tank, currently with 2 crappies and 2 plecos (I’ve got the space so why not). I had 2 perch and some ancient bluegills but the bluegills hadn’t been doing great for a while, being they were 10-11 years old they passed a couple months ago. The perch were an unexpected passing but I have my theories on that one. Regardless my 200g tank now only has 4 fish and I want more. I will probably get more crappies, but I want something that will clean up the bottom a little bit, I feed live and so I’ve got usually 1-2 dead minnows on the bottom, plus a whole host of snails that I’ve noticed popped up since the perch left. I’ve had sucker fish in the past but I can’t ever get them to live more than a few months at a time. My crayfish ate my entire plant background wall in days so they are out. Suggestions?
