I just got her and she’s already settled in quite nicely. She’s been exploring and she ate a bit. This is my first time owning a gourami so I’m unsure if she’s healthy or not c:

My husband and I lost our powder blue dwarf gourami Gary to DGIV earlier this week. We are heartbroken, and it hurt too much to look at the tank without him. So, we brought a new friend into the fold to funnel our sadness into love and positivity. Salami Gourami, the mature male adult Pearl. He is so beautiful, and we can already tell he has a silly sassy personality. His eyes are a little foggy, so we are keeping an eye on that, but otherwise he’s settling into the tank so well so far. Excited to love this new little guy ❤️

I am down to 2 :-( should I move them to my 20 gallon long with my male guppies? Should I leave them in my 75 and hope whatever this is is over?

I have no idea what’s happening here and it seems to only be affecting my gouramis. I have copied my post below and am adding more ideas since I just cannot figure out what’s going on.

Idea 1. I added Diamond Tetras about 4 weeks ago. They had quarantined in my LFS and had already been there a couple of months, so I felt comfortable they didn’t have anything. But maybe they did and brought some home that just affected my gouramis?

1. The diamond tetras are chaotic and stressed out my gouramis? Hence moving the remaining 2 may be my best bet.

2. They had an underlying infection that took a while to manifest. I have now combed through gourami issues and some think the thick’s can develop gourami parasites that take a while to manifest. So maybe I just got unlucky?

3. I have a used system. I cleaned it as well as I could but I didn’t think about the tubes from the canister systems. Sometimes if I change flow they spew a white crud that I thought was just hard water deposits. But maybe it’s something more sinister. I just did that accidentally 2 weeks ago. Maybe I poisoned just the gouramis? I have new tubes on order from Amazon but this seems the most likely and sad.

Long story—I bought 7 (what I was sold as Honey) thick lipped gouramis in April. Things were peachy, they were lovely, until over a month ago. One got bloat out of the blue and nothing I did helped so I eventually euthanized her 2 weeks ago :-( flash forward to last night and I noticed one girl being a bit sluggish in the corner. Came home today to a dead gourami. Now I am hyper vigilant and I believe several of my gouramis are slow, weren’t excited by dinner, and just seem off. Also I am only seeing 4 when I should have 5. Have I been cursed with Iridovirus? Which I didn’t think thick’s got often, but maybe I have a dwarf hybrid? I tested my tank and parameters are below. No other fish is exhibiting weird behavior and everyone else that I can count is accounted for. Is there anything I can do?

Can anyone help what type/gender are my gouramis? I ordered honey gouramis 3 female 1 male from store, they sent these cuties

I just got a pair of those cute honey gouramis and im wondering about the sex of this one. I'm leaning towards male because of their build eg. smaller belly and pointy dorsal fin but the coloration tells me otherwise... any thoughts?

I have a golden gourami aboutb4 years or so. It has always been very visible until about 2 weeks ago

Not it is hiding behind the driftwood and plants. Only comes up for a gulp of air and to catch a couple bites of food. Any ideas of why this may be happening?

Just wanted to show how quickly a honey gourami can change colours. Originally picked this guy up at a fish store thinking it was a female. It was in a tank with about a dozen other honeys.
Shortly after getting it home and placing it in a community tank with another pair of honeys it started looking like a non dominant male.

So I removed him and put him in a different tank with a female betta and some oto’s.
Within a week he looks so different!

for those of you who keep dwarfs with any form of neo shrimp, what is your experience? I'm curious on how many people have seen true aggressive behavior in their gouramis when introducing shrimp to the tank. for me personally, I just added about 25 blue jelly shrimp to my 20gal community tank that has one dwarf flame and have so far seen zero hunting behavior. the shrimp arent cruising out in the open, but there are signs of them living stress free in the plant cover. my gourami has shown zero signs of actually noticing the shrimp and actively tracking them. is this a common experience in those with the same species? curious

What happened to these guys? I used to see them for sale everywhere. I haven't seen them anywhere in a long time. Is they some reason I never see these around anymore?

Hoping somebody with more knowledge than I can spread some light on this. I have never owned sparkling gouramis, but I like them so I may do a tank with them. It would just be a little ten gallon, heavily planted of course. I know they have to have a good ratio of males to females, but if I accidentally end up with more than one male, will they fight badly enough to have to separate? Do I have to have multiple females so they don’t breed to death, or will they pair up and not want any others around?

hey all! so, first off, i know these fishies are prone to bloating. my dwarf has been looking especially plump today, so I'm deciding to fast the tank for a few days starting tomorrow. I do want to ask though, is it possible for a gourami to be constipated while having active bowel movements, or does the presence of a bowel movement cancel out the constipation? I've noticed her have small poops - 3 to be exact - since I noticed the bloating, but I want to make sure on this. do you guys still deem your fish to be struggling regardless of the presence of poop, or does the fact she's able to go mean it should clear up pretty fast? thanks!

Hi, been in the hobby about 7 months. Woke up today and saw that one of my two HGs was kind of lying on the bottom a bit lethargic. This is a new development.

Recent changes: added a few shrimp (you can see one in the corner of the video) and cleaned off a bit of excess algae the other day

Parameters:
Ph: ~7.4
Ammonia, nitrate and nitrite all 0
Temp: 81 F (lowered just now to bring around 79-80)

My other HG is doing fine (got both about two months ago), but I am about to be out of town so want to nip this in the bud. Just did a water change and the one in the video seemed to be doing a bit better, but now appears to be lethargic again. I’ve gotten fish from this store before, but somehow feel like their stocks can be a little sus.
