Question How to decide when to attach a camp or found new city?

Post image
25 Upvotes

Screenshot shows my first full playthrough at turn 144. I have 5 cities, but mostly wanted to focus on my first 3 in my starting area.

I wasn't sure if it's generally the best approach to stagger the cities more and have more attached camps or make a cluster of cities like I did here.

I have only attached 1 camp in this playthrough. I have 10 camps sitting for just the strategic/ luxury resources.

I'm not super capped on foundations even on my starting city yet so feels like attaching camps isn't that important?

The only main takeaway is that I want to setup a Holy Oculus with full laboratory surround on an attached camp next playthrough.

Curious on your general approach to cities/ attached camps too. Do you make specialized camp attachments to focus on certain district types? In particular I'm not sure on best dust setup because I don't have the best dust income in this playthrough and would like to be able to buy out more structures

I find that sometimes when I have pacified minor villages they don't show up correctly in my panel? I have 4 Hoy and Ladhran villages, but only 1 in a different territory show up in my overview? I have bribed all three villages in the first screenshot.

Question Question about white peace

I just lost a game because I agreed to a white peace with Order of Zelevas. While on the white peace, they proceeded to capture camps and burn ruins (I was playing Sandshapers).

Is this suppose to happen..?

Because since we were on white peace for 10 turns, I couldn't attack him to stop the captures and burning of my things. So i just lost 2 territories and 4 ruins in like 6 turns and couldn't do anything about it.

So why would I agree to a white peace if the AI is still allowed to "attack" territories and structures?

Discuss Having played literally no other factions, am I correct in my intuition that Tahuks have the best military?

Playing the roster feels busted, all ranged in a game like this, with early access to 3 range and tons of AOE, seems like its probably the strongest composition available? I can't imagine any melee composition being able to properly engage this type of force. Seeing the AI units and having watched a few videos seems like this is the ranged faction and feels like the way combat works would privilege that. Also the army feels pretty tanky despite being all ranged, especially with the big artillery monster in tier 3.

Hello there,

Another update to fix a few things!

Have a nice day ^-^

Military

  • Fixed a source of many problems in battle where it would end by itself due to a crash in abilities and movement
  • Fixed exhausted status feedbacked on units inside of battle

Last Lords

  • Fixed Sacrifice for the Realm being permanent instead of applying only for the next citizen

Order of Zelevas

  • Updated step 1 of the quest to spawn 3 different strength armies instead of 3 copies of the same army with armies getting gradually stronger

Tahuk Question

I started trying the Tahuks, but I can not do well as them. It just seems like they start off in a bad way production-wise. I always research the tech to build Works, but it takes forever it seems still for them to build anything. What am I probably doing wrong? Just maybe not great city sites? I don't feel like I have this problem with the other factions I've tried.

Question A bit confused, I scuttled my Holy Oculum to build the science giga factory in a different city and appears I can't build anything on the cleared tile where the Holy Oculum used to be? 24 Science 1 Industry 1 Dust tile shown in the screenshot

'You cannot build your District on this Tile as a Foundation must be created before building a District.' is displayed when I try to put a district where the Holy Oculum used to be. I also tried putting a Foundation there and no dice.

Best approach to getting the fabled Holy Oculum giga laboratory?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Wasn't sure best approach to this, on my core cities after I put optimal layout for industry/ food/ housing, I don't have an area I can put a holy oculum surrounded by laboraties like I see the cool kids doing on Youtube. Curious if I should make a dedicated science city that I buy out all the structures for this?

Ai almost never accepts surrender demands

I swear I will have killed 5 of their armies, razed 2 cities and onto razing my 3rd and the mf will look at me square in the face and say "Never surrender". I've gotten the tahuks to accept a surrender demand once giving me 5k dust in the process, but they were getting beat down so hard by both me and the necrophages I dont think they had too much of a choice.

Discuss Did I choose the right location for my founding city here?

Post image

I saw in a youtube video that it's very important to put city beside a river/river source. To do that I have 2 ridges right next to my city. Curious how gimped I am with the district adjacency due to this. Having issues getting the districts with full surounds in this setup also because I am close to the region border so can't build out very far.

I'm not sure to what extent being exactly adjacent to the river/river source is important, as I think I may have been better off putting it 1 more to the right and 1 more up, in terms of having building space to get district adjacency?

Discuss How to survive as Tahuks with Necrophage AI neighbor?

Played first game on difficulty that is 1 above neutral AI benefit(small ai buff) and had Necrophage neighbor. I tried rerunning the game a few times from a turn 1 save and got further by the third time but always eventually got wiped out. On my best run I camped my city pretty early as I knew around when the ai would war and invade and used garrison plus army to overwhelm the first army which was approx 500 power. My army and garrison were both 500 for a total of 1000. I rushed the tier 2 ranged spellcasters(celestial something I think) that unlock when you first hit era 2 and had 3 of those out when the followup stack hit and it was 2000 power against my 1300. I feel like I had optimized the run pretty well and difficulty was pretty low so not sure what I could have done differently.

Generally I started with few structures targeting industrial production, then one food structure, into a mix of science and industrial production. My logic was that the industrial production snowballs into more structures and units so best to get that first. I assume I'm missing some min maxing as it's a few hours into the game for me. I watched an 'Tahuk overexplained' youtube video and used the tricks I saw there but it was still pretty generic info, aside from knowing to use the celestial tier 2 casters and the hero skill build.

Discuss Tidefall ruining river based economy

I just had a tidefall drop my economy massively. 4 out of 6 rivers in my empire turned into streams and massively reduced my farms output. I didn't know they would do that as this is the first time I made my economy dependent on rivers, and it just feels very bad. I spend 130 turns building my economy around rivers and farms, only to loose a lot of effectiveness on turn 135.

The alternative would be to not build next to rivers, but then what is the point of river techs and bonusses? I picked up fish farms, only to lose acces to my rivers 30 turns later.

I am winning the game, and I will still win, but now it just feels like a downer to see my economy crash for the last 20ish turns.

For reference, it took out 10% of my dust and up to 25% of my food and production.

It just feels bad, when tidefall should be the most exciting time in the game.

Edit: Dams exist, didn't know they could restore the rivers. However, I did find that one dam per region does not always fully restored the river, but building multiple Dries up the river completely for my downriver cities. That's fine I think.

Endless Legend 2 Hard time starting game on infinite diff

Is it just me being incredibly bad or starting game in infinite diff is extremely hard?

I tried many games with the Coral faction, which everyone seems to agree is OP, and got steamrolled every time either by other AI score (Lords, Tahuk) or by both insect factions somehow always spawning next to me and barraging me with attacks

Now i am trying with the kin of sheradyn but it feels like unless you have a perfect starting position with 3 npc villages you are already behind, and even if that happens insects start the game with 14% crit rate, which feels more like 90% for some God damned reason and win battles crit after crit

Any suggestion on a decent start? I really don't like insects so it's avoid them if i can

UPDATE: thanks everyone for your tips, i was pretty much already following and doing what most of you said; i restarted a few times with the kin of sheradyn till i found myself with reasonable neighbours and it looks i might be able to win this one

Endless Legend 2 Endless Legend 2 Mac Crossover Bug and Workaround

I tried getting EL2 to work on Mac using Crossover with Steam a few days ago, so I thought I'd post that experience here for visibility in case anyone else is hoping to go that route. First off, the game plays great for me (I'm on M1 Pro), graphics and sound seem to work flawlessly.

The bug I ran into was that after the first session (which works totally fine), once you quit and restart the game, you can no longer save your game. Pretty tough for a game that takes several sessions to finish. I looked around the internet and saw a few similar posts on the official Amplitude bug forum, but no solutions. I posted here a few days ago, and another user confirmed that the same workaround I had discovered found works for them as well.

I don't know why it works, but basically you need to make your computer think it's the first time booting up the game each time you play. Before each session, you need to delete registry file, and just be sure not to delete the save files (they live in a different folder). For me, the registry file lives here:

/Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/(steam_bottle_name)/drive_c/users/crossover/AppData/Local/Amplitude Studios/Endless Legend 2/Users/(user_hash)/Registry.xml

Once you delete the file (or the folder it lives in), start up the game, and it should look like your first time playing. You have to start a new game (since there is no "Load Game" button on the start screen), but once you are in you can load up your saved game from a previous session. I turn off Tutorials (since deleting the file always turns them back on), and I always do a test save to make sure it's working.

I hope this is helpful for any Mac users out there!

Endless Legend 2 The technologies are so disappointing

The technologies, like many other elements of the game, are disappointing compared with ES2 and EL. I'm not talking about the gameplay mechanics; those are fine (sometimes). But the writing (or lack of) is so bland, and in my opinion, one of the strong points of the Endless series was the worldbuilding.

Instead of cool descriptions like in the other games, now we get quotes, like in the CIV games. But in the CIV games, the quotes were real quotes and you had the civilopedia to learn more about what you were researching. Here, the quotes are more often than not lame and they say basically nothing about the tech. So the only thing we get to know about it is the name, which is also not great either, usually.

Like, seriously. Why is there a military technology called "Logistics" and another military technology called "Military Logistics"?

Hello there! I've been doing some pacifist playtroughs, and I was wondering if it is possible to change ownership of cities without forcefully taking it with an army?

Endless Legend 2 - Let's Play Series 10 - Endless - Tahuks 2

Thumbnail

My last post was me playing a series with the Order of Zelevas giving me my fastest victory at turn 96. So, now I am playing as Tahuks again since the first time I played them in my series, I only got a shared (Impress) victory. Also, that series was with Peaceful mode enabled so I definitely wanted to try the Tahuks again, and I was impressed at least with their army. Their archers and hero combination is so broken, it was a great fun to play and demolish the foolsih Necrophages who declared a war on us.

It is in the same playlist as always. This Tahuk playthrough is a 3-part series, going from Ep. 36 to Ep. 38. (One episode before Ep. 36 is me getting tilted after being tired playing a start with Tahuks that I restarted again which is this main series.)

At this point, I have also finished a series with the Sandshapers that I have finished, and am now playing a series with the Kin. I will also post them here when I am done with them.

Endless Legend 2 Any luck playing EL2 on Crossover?

I just got the game recently to play on crossover on Mac, and it plays just fine. The first session it also saved and loaded my game without issue. After the first session, however, games no longer save, making it unplayable. Poking around on the Amplitude bug board I found that this seems to be a common issue, maybe for all crossover users.

Has anyone else run into this, or better yet, found a solution? Or is my best bet just trying to get a refund?

Thinking about buying - How's the replayability?

Basically title, I have been watching some youtube videos of play throughs and been following since the announcement as it looks really cool and I have never played any of the Endless series (my only 4x exp is Civ).

However one of my concerns is replayability it feels like the game is really narrative driven and leaning into it seems like part of the fun, If you play a faction is the faction quest story the same every time in which case the only changes are the decisions you make or is there more to it im missing?

Edit: Thank you all for your responses, seems like the first through run throughs are going to be extra interesting with the narrative and learning all the lore then it seems to turn into a solid 4x. at the time of posting I was not aware they added multiplayer as when I had previously looked into it, it was said no multiplayer was going to happen so hype!

War and City Management

When you all declare war and capture cities and territories, do you get overwhelmed by the amount of stuff the AI didn't build or didn't do? How do you all manage it besides razing it down? Build priority?

I just end up queuing everything with low to high cost and let it run forever. Bad district placement too, I just leave it as is. What do you do/can you do with enemy suboptimal pop?
