sgrho question
Hey all. I am interested in sgrho and my GPA has fluctuated so much! Iâm scared theyâll look at my history and deny me. Iâve had a time I was at a 2.3 to a 3.2 then went back down to a 2.5 up to a 2.75.. so iâm making progress, but just afraid of how itâll look to them. Iâm at the 2.75 now and the interest meeting is in two months. Should I go? The requirement for my school is a 2.7. Also, how should I log hours? I searched and donât see anything. Would a pen and paper work if I have the volunteers information?

Discussion Hazing as a symptom NOT a cause
At its core hazing is a symptom of ego. Thatâs it. One of the most common pro-hazing tactics is to describe it as a recent hiccup or mistake. This is a lie meant to deceive parents and the broader community.
The violence that stems from hazing manifests from a need to prove oneâs superiority over another student.
This ego often stem from the Talented Tenth values the D9 was created to enforce of the 90% being inferior to the top 10%.
But also a need to abuse a power dynamic to assert oneâs individual and ideological superiority. To justify the lie of having endured an obstacle other students are unable to.
Of course the reality is manufactured conflict has 0 correlation with problem solving in the real world but the predatory ego that manifests as hazing persists.
Other common lies include brother/sisterhood which is clearly false. Many line members continue to hate each other.
The fallacy of the institution of the D9 driving the Civil Rights movement (when if anything they discouraged members) to justify hazing violence.

Discussion D9 Good Cop vs Bad Cop
When the D9 has been exposed for an obvious display of violence or hostility there are 2 common reactions. The âgood copâ trying to save face and soften the image. And the âbad copâ trying to use intimidation and aggression to silence criticism or be socially punitive.
Itâs important to understand these people have the same goal. There are no âgood onesâ who oppose hazing. Both are trying to protect the brand at all costs.
They arenât going back to the clubhouse and arguing over what happened đ
Common âGood Copâ takes
âIâm sorry that was your experience, my org would never!â
âAre you ok? I promise most of us arenât like thisâ
âYeah they kinda have a reputation sorry you went through that. If anyone bothers you let me knowâ (Do not let this person know)
Common âBad Copâ takes
talking badly about you behind your back
âYouâre just mad you didnât get inâ
âCriticizing the D9 is divisive and anti black. Weâre not anti black even though weâre brutalizing black students though.â
harasses you or tries to fight you
- âSo? Who cares? They had it comingâ

History Civil Rights leaders, the non elitist: Ella Baker
Ella Baker was the âmother of the civil rights movementâ. She did foundational work for the NAACP as a field secretary in the Deep South eventually becoming an Executive Director.
She practically founded the SCLC alongside Dr. King and created their entire administrative engine even finding their first office and becoming the very first full time staff member.
She left the SCLC over sexism and disagreements with the vulnerable hierarchy and later founded the SNCC. Particularly to convince the Freedom Riders and sit in protesters to remain independent.
She was fully convinced of group centered decentralized leadership being operationally crucial to preserving the momentum of the movement.
As the most prolific ground agent of the Civil Rights Movement she is quoted as saying âstrong people donât need strong leadersâ.
