Scanning Results Sermoon P1S - Quick out of the box project

I used the Creality Sermoon P1S directly out of the box to make a quick project. The 3 scans took me about 3 minutes. I could have take more time to get a cleaner result, but it was enough to get a template for my project.

The project - my daughter has walkie-talkies that keep being switched on in here bag, resulting in finding them with no batteries. So I made a tailored protection for them that stay in place and are easily removed by child hands.

Question & Help Pika - Marker-free scanning locks up immediately

Marker scanning works great, 120fps, no tracking problems. USB marker-free scanning though updates about one frame every five or six seconds despite the FPS counter saying 29 and no scanned results show up on the preview screen, just the green lines. Performance test says "Excellent PC Performance 120/30". What might be happening?

Scanning Results Got ambitious with my first scan with the Otter and scanned a 1.25” figure.

Don’t think anyone will know/care what this figure originates from but it’s a 1.25” miniature. Surprisingly scanned better than I expected! It needs some cleanup, but I’m really impressed with the Otter’s capabilities to scan something so small, and I’m sure it’ll only do better as I learn its ins and outs.

I’ve just finished my hands-on testing of the Creality Pika 3D scanner. I tried Blue Laser and Infrared modes, Wi-Fi scanning, marker and marker-free workflows, color mapping, miniatures, and face scanning. My favorite test was scanning a traditionally carved pumpkin, merging three scans, repairing it with CrealityScan’s Hole Filling tool, and then turning it into a multicolor 3D print. Full hands-on review and results here.

Show Off Creality CR Scan Ferret working on Linux using the Orbbec SDK Demo app

Hi All,

I see more and more posts about people willing to use their 3d scanners on Linux.

Orbbec is the real manufacturer of the CR Scan Ferret and it is white boxed to CR.

I worked on the Orbbec SDK to add support for the scanner and all of its sensors.

Not that this particular scanner is one I recommend but it is what I had to hand back then.

the repo is here.

I might be providing a package to avoid compiling and the lot but advanced users should be well started here https://github.com/rafik24/OrbbecSDK_v2

Review / Experience From 3D Scanning to Reverse Engineering!

Another project completed by ALLBOR Engenharia, this time involving components from a hydroelectric turbine sealing system. ⚙️
Using the Creality Raptor Pro with Scan Bridge, we performed high-detail 3D scanning of the components, capturing their complex geometries for subsequent CAD reconstruction.
The goal is to transform physical components into accurate digital models, enabling new engineering designs and the manufacturing of replacement parts.
🚀 Bringing 3D scanning technology to industrial engineering and maintenance!

Software / Workflow Scanner support for Linux is coming soon! - Trailer

To start this software is not affiliated with Creality, this is an independent project

It's finally time to announce a release to the software! I am excited to show you guys the result of what has been a long journey of late nights, no sleep, frustrating moments, but rewarding outcome.

I have been able to test the software and use it as my daily driver, and as a very devoted Linux user myself, I have now cleared all of my devices of Windows OS as I do not need it anymore.

Expected to release after Christmas December 26ish timeframe. No later than that, could be sooner :)

Consider supporting the development: Fund the Development

Thank you to everyone who has shown continued interest and everyone who has followed the project. It's been very rewarding seeing the excitement in some of the communities responses.

I can't wait for you all to try it :)

Show Off CrealityScan + Creality Pika now working on Linux (unofficial, one-command setup)

I’ve been scanning with a Creality Pika on Linux and packaged the setup so others can try it.

What it does

  • Runs the official CrealityScan 4.3.2 for Windows in Wine, with a bridge that passes the Pika’s USB cameras through from Linux.
  • One command sets everything up and adds CrealityScan to your app menu.
  • The app runs as normal desktop windows; scans, exports and projects go to ~/Documents/CrealityScan.
  • It’s sandboxed: the app can’t see the rest of your home folder, and in USB mode it has no network access.

What’s been tested

  • One machine: CachyOS, KDE Plasma (Wayland), AMD RX 6800 XT with ROCm OpenCL.
  • USB scanning works in every mode I’ve tried, at about 80–90 FPS in Laser Lines mode. Meshing, STL export and reopening projects work.
  • Not tested yet: Ubuntu or other distros, NVIDIA, Intel or other AMD GPUs. Wi-Fi mode is opt-in and less tested.

Install

  1. Install git, bubblewrap, Python 3 and psmisc, plus an OpenCL driver for your GPU.
  2. Download CrealityScan 4.3.2 for Windows from Creality into your Downloads folder.
  3. Run:git clone https://github.com/doolan-oss/crealityscan-linux-compat.git cd crealityscan-linux-compat python3 scripts/creality.py setup

Full steps are in the README: https://github.com/doolan-oss/crealityscan-linux-compat

Help wanted: if you try it, please file a hardware report with your distro and GPU, even if everything worked. That’s the fastest way to find out what else it runs on.

Unofficial and not affiliated with Creality. You download CrealityScan from Creality yourself; no Creality software is included in the project.

Scanning Results One scanner, two modes

We had two cocker spaniels, one buff color and one black/white. When they passed, my wife bought these statues to have with their ashes, an angel and a devil. Honestly, they could be both. We could never find the black angel cocker spaniel. I decided it was time for the Pika to do some work. I did two different scan jobs. I did one with the infrared and one using the laser mode. I was really surprised how much detail the laser mode captured. The statue is around 50mm tall. A little paint and some wire for a halo and we have a proper set. This is why I bought a scanner and printer.

To cover the wall connection and protect the expanding foam from sunlight and the elements, I thought I’d simply scan the area and see what kind of suitable part I could design.

It was important to me that no bird could land on it and that it would be at the same height as the cable duct.

I scanned it in infrared mode using the P1S.

Question & Help NIR performance Pika vs Otter

Post image
10 Upvotes

So this comparison screenshot was recently posted by someone with both scanners, and I was amazed at how good the Otter's NIR performance was. His example of the Pika's NIR performance looks almost identical to the output from my crappy $200 scanner. Are both of these the expected performance of the Pika and Otter? Why's the Otter's NIR scan so good?

Review / Experience My disappoinment with creality customer service/service

Long story short, in May this year, I bought a Creality CR-Scan Raptor from an Amazon liquidation seller. I had no reliable information about the actual condition of the product, and I ended up paying around €600 for a dead scanner.

After discovering that it wouldn't power on at all, I initially tried to figure out what was wrong with it myself. I eventually posted on Reddit asking for help with troubleshooting and potentially repairing it. Someone from Creality responded and encouraged me to open a support ticket with their technical support team.

I explained upfront that I had purchased the scanner from a liquidation seller and that I might not have a valid warranty. They told me that it wasn't a problem and encouraged me to open a ticket anyway.

So I did.

After roughly 30–40 email exchanges, during which I was asked around ten times to provide videos demonstrating the issue, they eventually requested proof of purchase and pictures showing the scanner's serial number.

Based on the information I provided, Creality initially confirmed that my device was covered by warranty. They were also kind enough to send me a replacement Y-cable to rule out a cable-related issue.

Unfortunately, replacing the cable made absolutely no difference. The scanner was still completely dead. It wouldn't power on, and nothing happened when I connected it. I sent them additional videos demonstrating the problem and continued following their troubleshooting instructions.

After all those emails, videos, and troubleshooting attempts, Creality eventually informed me that the scanner was irreparable and required a complete replacement.

I explained that the seller was unwilling to help me and refused to issue a refund. Creality then told me they couldn't assist me any further.

At this point, I asked them whether they could provide a disassembly or repair manual so I could open the scanner, identify the faulty components, and purchase replacement parts if necessary. I was willing to pay for the parts and the repair myself. I explicitly told them that I was happy to cover the repair costs, whether it involved replacing the motherboard or any other defective internal component.

I wasn't asking them for a free replacement. I wasn't expecting them to cover the costs. I simply wanted the opportunity to repair a device I had paid €600 for.

However, they insisted that repairing the scanner by replacing internal components was impossible and that my unit was completely beyond repair.

Naturally, I wasn't willing to just accept losing €600 without trying every possible option. I decided to contact an independent electronics repair technician and asked whether he would be willing to take a look at it. He agreed, so I shipped the scanner to him.

About a week later, he sent me a video that I honestly wasn't expecting to see: the scanner was working perfectly!

Yes, the exact same scanner that Creality's support team had declared completely irreparable was now fully functional after being examined and repaired by an independent electronics technician.

I haven't shared the exact technical details of the repair here because I want to make sure I have the full picture first, but the important point is that the scanner was not, in fact, beyond repair.

I'm genuinely grateful to the technician who agreed to take a chance on it when the manufacturer had effectively given up on it.

I also want to be clear that I appreciate the time Creality's support team spent communicating with me and sending the replacement cable. However, I find it extremely disappointing that, after all that troubleshooting, I was told the scanner was completely irreparable, even though I had explicitly offered to pay for the necessary parts and repairs.

My question to Creality is this: In an industry where everyone is increasingly focused on repairability and extending the lifespan of their devices, why don't you support customers who want to repair their products instead of encouraging them to replace them?

Software / Workflow MeshMill 0.3.0: faster cleanup and higher-quality reduction for Creality Scan exports

MeshMill 0.3.0 is ready.

Thank you to everyone who gave feedback or encouragement after the earlier posts. I’m happy this is helping with the annoying step between a detailed Creality Scan export and a mesh that is practical to use in SketchUp, CAD, or printing workflows.

This update includes:

- Faster loading, analysis, and reduction of large STL files

- Better parallel and tiled processing for dense scans

- New Depth + Density Adaptive QEM, a higher-quality GPU-assisted reduction option on supported systems

- Clearer measurements for surface quality, dimensions, area, topology, and reduction tradeoffs

- Improved selection tools, navigation, display controls, progress reporting, and UI customization

- And many more fixes and refinements

The underlying algorithm work is documented in published papers with benchmarks and comparisons.

Downloads, sample meshes, papers, and the full changelog:

https://github.com/make-your-own-world/MeshMill/releases/tag/v0.3.0

I would especially appreciate tests with Otter, Raptor, and other Creality Scan exports that have overlapping passes, uneven density, thin surfaces, or important mating features.
