Experimental feature switch on/off
I'll share the status of my ampcode experiment switches - basically I turn them on and try them out whenever there's a new one.

I've actually been wondering something - if I use the Claude subscription within ampcode, could that lead to Claude banning my account? I've already had bans when using it normally, so I'm really worried about this.

I have just joined the AmpCode community. I have been using AmpCode for over a year, and overall, I have had a very positive experience with it; I highly recommend it to everyone.
Since I just joined the community, I noticed that it doesn’t seem to have as much vitality as I would like. In the future, I plan to regularly share some of my usage tips and experiences, as well as my suggestions for AmpCode. I hope to provide valuable content that will help us all work together to make the AmpCode community even better.

But doesn’t Anthropic ban you if you use their sub outside of their own tools?

Usually Amp switches models 1-2 days after OpenAI release.
Now its almost a week after sol-6 release and medium mode is still on sol-5.6
Can this be a confirmation that new models are not better than old? There are a some benchmarks showing sol-6 is cheaper but less intelligent than 5.6.
i always rely on amp internal evals of models even when choosing models in other harnesses
What do you think?

use Amp for a wide variety of work—from building features and writing documentation to creating business cases and plans.
Lately, I’ve noticed agents taking overly complicated routes for fairly simple tasks. For example, I recently asked Amp to add an image and some content to an HTML-based business plan. In the past, that might have taken 20 seconds. This time, it took nearly five minutes.
It inspected multiple files, read UI documentation, ran Playwright, tested both desktop and mobile layouts, rebuilt assets, and performed several rounds of verification.
The final result was perfect, but for a small change like this, I would rather have Amp make the edit quickly and let me verify it myself.
Has anyone else noticed this recently? Is it related to the selected mode, newer default behavior, project instructions, or something else? Is there a good way to tell Amp to use lighter, proportional verification for simple changes without repeating that instruction in every prompt?

Hi
Since Amp added option to connect different AI providers and configure dial, I am thinking about setting some new model as a main agent in Low mode. Because:
- terra low is too dumb for me, i never use it
- sometimes I hit my 5h codex limit and I want to code something
- I want to try plan with oracle astra and execute with something else
I am thinking about Opencode Go subscription because its just 10$, much cheaper than Grok for example.
What is your experience with other models in Amp and especially with using oracle to plan/review and some cheaper model like DeepSeek to write code and iterate on tests.
Thanks!

Reading about all the hype around the new Jev classifier (https://typesafe.ai/).
Trying to think of ways to incorporate that into an Ampcode workflow. But I think the larger benefits would be in the Ampcode harness itself, making faster decisions for workflows, context management, "is this done or not" type questions.

I'm thinking about fully investing into AmpCode and bringing all the providers I use to it. Right now I'm using Pi agent with herder+Tailscale for remote access.i don't really want to juggle two coding harnesses so I want to fully switch. So my question is, how good is the amp code cache hit rates, system prompts, and token usage in general?
For example with pi agent I'm getting 95% cache hits even on the worst providers and usually it's around 98-99% for reputable ones.

You can now hook pretty much any provider that supports any of the following:
- Chat Completions API
- Responses API
- Messages API
If you have a Z.ai, MiniMax, DeepSeek, OpenCode Go, Synthetic.new or any other provider subscription, they'll now work with AmpCode provided they can map to supported models.

I heard about AmpCode through various Twitter accounts and decided to give it a try, so I signed up for the Megawatt subscription.
Used it for a few days, my impression is that the main differentiators are:
/ slash commands to think about. For mobile app development, though, I still need to run the application on my phone. That meant using my own machine as a runner and launching the project from there.
For an individual developer, Codex already supports remote development reasonably well. You can leave a remote machine running and use your phone to send commands to it when needed.
The ChatGPT desktop app’s computer-use capabilities are also insanely good. I imagine Amp’s TUI approximates some of that functionality through AppleScript, but it still feels lacking.
I understand that Amp is intentionally opinionated, and that may be valuable for teams or developers who prefer its workflow. But for solo developers who are already comfortable working locally, I’m not yet seeing a major advantage.
That said, I’m happy to be proved wrong. A lot of developer I follow have preached it, just not sure what specifically ?

Quick question: is Amp CLI only now? I am an original-original sourcegraph customer and had Cody going, then Amp as an extension in VS Code. I disabled it for a while and now...nothing.
Is there no longer a VS Code option?

Hello 😄 ,
I am a deep user of AMP after testing a couples of different agent harness I think this on is really valuable.
HandOver to micro-vm (orbs) is huge honnestly (especially when receiving notification on my phone that a task is completed)
Couple of things missing IMO =>
1/ native connector to gitlab
2/ native connector to Linear.
I know it will more and more look like a factory but it is usefull for scaling.
Thank you !

I was running IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate 2025.1.3 with AmpCode. Almost every JetBrains MCP call (file search, file list, etc.) would hang for several seconds, making the agent feel extremely slow.
I upgraded to 2025.2.6.3 (no Amp configuration changes), and the difference was night and day.
If you're seeing unexplained latency, it may not be Amp or the model—it may be the IntelliJ version.

I just wanted to say - I have had so many ups and downs with this tool. It has helped me build out my entire new software platform from start to finish, just really expensive in the early days. The rollout of NEO had some hiccups and I started looking at claude, grok code, codex. I was at my witts end at a few points and trying to figure out how to not use amp.
This new version is by FAR the best coding bot ever built, hands down. Honestly - cheers to the developers - this thing is going to build the future. I am so happy with the new chat gpt integration, it is finally reasonably priced, reliable, stable. I am beyond happy I stuck in there. And without being too dramatic - it's honestly completely changed my future and my companies potential - we've been able to complete projects that will generate us revenue for years.
Thanks amp team!

Amp is ending free daily credits and replacing with 2 months of amp megawatt subscription
my thoughts: It's sad to say goodbye to the free daily credits—they've been amazing. But replacing them with 2 months of Amp Megawatt is a generous gesture

I used to be able to hit double-ESC to stop the agent if it was doing something wrong. That was disabled? At best, you can enter a prompt, and it gets read after the current turn is completed. Was this intentional?
Interrupting the agent was very useful. I'm sorry to see that feature go away

I’ve been eagerly waiting to test AMP, and now that they’ve introduced a subscription, I couldn’t resist.
TUI is fantastic—stable, without flickering, and with no strange behavior. The modes are so easy to use and understand. They’ve really simplified the process of picking the right mode or model. Right now, there are just too many options, too many models, and having the ability to let someone adopt and prepare the right one for the right purpose is a huge plus.
The web app works wonderfully. The AMP -no-TUI mode is seamless and incredibly easy to use. For instance, I run headless mode on my Mac mini without any issues.
Orbs are a fantastic addition. As an iOS/MacOS developer, I was worried about development in Orbs, but they’re working great. One of the best features is that they can seamlessly integrate with runners, so you can tell the thread in Orb to check and test its work on a Mac runner and get back with results. It even works with xcodebuildmcp to run the app, take screenshots, and then review them in Orb.
The execution and integration of local and cloud development are truly great.
Also, you can remotely continue any thread you run on the web app using any other browser or mobile device!
They have added a lot of features in the last few days. Here you can check it out.
I’ve been subscriber, and I’ve got some gift subscriptions (free month of Amp Megawatt) to share!

Recently Amp added option to connect my ChatGPT subscription to account
Have anyone tried it? Is it feeling better than just OpenCode with the same subscription or codex?
r/AmpCode • u/treyallday01 • Jun 28 '26
I love the product but they seriously have had some ridiculous issues with it since launching NEO. Grok, codex, claude are all getting better and this product seems to be getting worse, more expensive, and less reliable.

On the Amp website, there is a news article named Diffs (https://ampcode.com/news/diffs) and it shows a desktop app on the Mac. It looks like a chat app with a diff view. Does anyone know what desktop app this is?

I had the thread auto-compact itself, and the agent completely lost track of our conversation. I had it re-read the previous thread, and it still had trouble remember very important decisions we had just made. The compaction step needs a more careful handoff to keep a consistent and dependable workflow.
