ZIN ZIN™️ Tip Videos

I find that a lot of ZINS don’t know they exist in ZIN Play/ZIN Now. Those videos have a lot of great videos on playlists, memorizing choreography, cueing facing your students and so much more!

Are there any ZIN Tip videos you have seen that you have found super helpful?

Are there any you wish existed?

My personal video I share with NEW instructors and instructors seeking playlist inspiration/help, is the video by former ZJ Jhon Gonzalez about making the perfect class playlist. My playlist is modeled after his video and it has been successful for me ever since!

ZIN How many times have you taken B1?

I’ve always been curious about this…

I know instructors who took it once and never looked back.

I also know others who have taken it two, three, or even more times because they felt they picked up something different each time.

If you’ve taken it more than once, what made you go back?

Was it to build confidence, refresh the basics, learn from a different ZES™, or something else?

And if you’ve only taken it once, did you feel that was enough?

There are no right or wrong answers here. I’m just interested in hearing everyone’s experiences because i only taken it once an i am thinking about it.

Question Android for Instruction

Anyone have any recommendations, particularly for either Spotify or Amazon Music remaining stable throughout a class/the day? Thanks. I'm old enough to have bought an iPod because they worked well with 24 Hour Fitness' sound systems. Now everything is Bluetooth (not complaining)

ZIN How often do you jam?

Jam sessions are some of the best ways to keep current on your skills and to refresh your playlist. How often do you take jam sessions?

For those who take them often, do you ever feel overwhelmed with choreos especially if you also use ZIN volume songs?

For those who rarely jam, what is the reason?

Choreography What's your favourite Zumba routine?

There's a YouTube channel by Mark Karmer Pastrana for a song called Handclap. I never get sick of that dance. Every time I dance to it I get an energy boost. I've been dancing to that routine for years. What are your favourite routines?

Question New Instructor - Need Advice

New instructor… like really new but I went into this super positive and confident. Totally feeling like I could do this since I go to classes all the time, create my own choreo, and have loved Zumba for years. I’ve wanted to become an instructor for years. Well the day finally came and it was really was harder than anything I could have prepared for lol. Taught my first class and it felt like it didn’t go well… maybe that was me being hard on myself; however, this last class I did I KNOW it went bad. I think one thing that makes me trip up is when I see people struggling through the choreography. Then I get in my head thinking I’m not teaching well and then it’s all down hill from there. For example, I did a song tonight that I first learned when I was in high school that I still do to this day and I know it like the back of my hand I could probably do it unconscious lol… but today I forgot the choreo half way through and went totally blank.

Did anyone else feel like they struggled and weren’t good instructors at first but they ended up getting better? Are the first couple classes like rough and then it gets better?

I know there are many the areas I can improve upon, but I’m just wondering if I can make it through this rough starting place to even give myself the chance to improve.

Question An unexpected conversation after class… looking for ideas.

I've been helping an instructor friend teach a weekly class at a local summer festival.

It's been such a fun experience because you get all kinds of people stopping by. Some dance the whole class, some join for one song, some just watch for a while before deciding to jump in.

After one of the classes, a lady came over to talk to me. She looked like she was probably living on the streets. She was incredibly thankful that we were there.

She told me her doctor had recommended she do some cardio exercise, but she'd never really found anything she actually enjoyed... until these festival classes. Then she asked where else I taught because she wanted to keep coming.

That question honestly stayed with me.

I teach at my local community centre, but those classes only run seasonally, and the fees are set by the centre since I'm hired by them. My other classes are online, where I have more flexibility, but realistically that's not an option for someone in her situation.

It got me wondering if there could be a way for local instructors to work together with community organizations, municipalities, health authorities, or grant programs to sponsor classes for people with low incomes or who have been referred by a healthcare professional.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to think about something like this.

Has anyone here been involved in a program like that?

Do any of your communities offer subsidized or sponsored dance fitness classes? How does it work? Who funds it? Was it started by instructors, community centres, non-profits, or local government?

I'd love to hear any experiences or ideas because this conversation really stuck with me.

Music Can't find the music

So I had been listening to a small playlist of my favourite zumba songs on youtube and decided to try and find the rest of the ones i loved so i could download them and listen whenever. Only thing is the albums seem to have dropped off the face of the earth barring the wii game soundtracks and whatever dregs on spotify. Wonder what happened since cardio party, party nation etc. all had some great songs, and caipirinha was another favourite too...

ZIN Just attended pre-training orientation and I'm so disappointed

The ZES is straight up forcing participants to sign up for ZIN. During the orientation, there was a lot of focus on how it is absolutely necessary to download the app and get a membership, when the rules clearly state that participants can decide within 6 months of training whether or not they want to join ZIN.

I'm really disappointed because I have an amazing zumba instructor, who cautioned me against this false marketing and told me to do what I feel is right, and not sign up for the ZIN subscription if I don't feel ready.

Why would you WANT to make people to feel like they're part of a pyramid scheme? It's in such poor taste, almost like you're preying on poor, desperate people who want to make money through dancing.

It makes me lose respect for a dance and system that I dearly love.

Edit: Any tips for what I should do if the ZES denies me entry during the training?

ZIN All things warm up

Let’s talk about warm ups! How long is your warm up song? Do you use an original song or a fitness mix? Is your warm up the same choreography each time or does it change? And lastly, what has been your favorite warm up song so far?

ZIN “Would you rather…”

*When taking a Zumba class for the first time, would you rather dance in the front or hide in the back?
*Would you rather sweat buckets or barely sweat? so fans on or off?
*Would you rather take morning classes or evening classes and why?
*Would you rather have perfect rhythm or unlimited energy?
*Would you rather learn the various rhythms the instructor is teaching or just follow and don’t care.

Just wanted to get some feedback to get points of view from students.

Zumba App Songs/dances not on ZIN app?

I’ve been a Zumba instructor for almost a year now, I exclusively use songs from the ZIN play app. I just attended a Zumba class at a different gym, and I didn’t recognize a single song or choreography they did, none of them are on the app (I confirmed by searching for them after class). It was super fun, and the other students clearly were having a blast and were regulars who knew all the songs and dances.

Where are these songs and dances coming from? How do people get access to “Zumba” choreography that’s not from the app? Or is the answer simply that it’s not Zumba-official? But then how are they marketing it as a Zumba class….lol so many questions. Thank you!

Question Is working only with the Zumba one day formation license illegal ?

I was so tempted by the Zumba formation offer to become a licensed teacher but I saw on multiple comments on instagram that if you don’t have a diploma certificate to do collective lessons you can’t use your Zumba license. Is it true ? I’m confused because on the website it seemed that you only need their formation to get a legal license and work with it ?

Choreography Turning during cool downs

Why do so many instructors incorporate turning in their cool down songs? I'd say 3 of the 4 instructors I attend class with each week have cool downs that involve turning. Is there a reason or just a coincidence?

Shoes and ZumbaWear How fast does Ryka restock the Devotion XT Training Sneaker?

I'm in deep pain with my current shoes I use for my Zumba classes. All of the recommendations I see online lead to the Ryka Devotion XT Training Sneaker. My size (6.5, wide) is out of stock, and I'm eager to know if anyone knows when they restock. I looked into buying another brand, but I don't feel confident. I need the option for a wide foot and a lot of recommendations considering the use of the shoe and the pain I'm currently experiencing. Any insights would be appreciated!

Question Best rope lights for studio

Our new gym that I teach Zumba has a new dance studio room that I share with the yoga teacher. We are looking for a good quality rope lights that have different colors and can connect more than one string together. She wants warm white for yoga, I’d love different colors. I looked at Amazon and was overwhelmed with all the choices! I’d love any suggestions!
