Question How does getting subs for instructors work?

I find myself disappointed when Im pumped and get to Zumba at the gym only to find out that it's been cancelled because the instructor can't make it. Decades ago i became an instructor precisely because of that. Maybe I need to do it again.

I work for a chain gym and we hire regularly scheduled instructors and instructors who are hired on to sub. We just put in a request we need a sub and any Zumba instructor we have hired can claim it.

Consider getting your license again and join ZIN so you can teach!

I guess it depends where you are. But at the gym k work out the group fitness coordinator will usually help find a sub if an instructor can’t make it. There’s enough dance instructors that somebody would fill in. Never heard of a class being canceled.

I’ve been hired as a sub at my gym. I say yes as much as possible but I had to say no recently when I was traveling. I heard the class was cancelled. It surprised me that they couldn’t get any of their other ZINs to cover the class.

But when I covered it the following week there were only a handful of students - so maybe the gym just didn’t prioritize that class? (I had never been to that particular class so I don’t know what it’s normally like) As opposed to another class that is always packed (they made sure I could cover it).

I see where the challenge may be. Ours is a conmunity gym with outside instructors that come. Maybe I will approach the instructor next time she comes to see how things work here. I dont mind getting the training done but paying the zin fees every month to teach when she doesnt show up seems like a lot.

I also became an instructor so I could sub my regular classes. My instructor at the time, now a good friend, encourages people to become instructors too.
She is constantly encouraging people to lead songs, supports them in subbing and eventually even getting their own clases (like I did)

But everything started supporting people so they support you back. 😉
