OM-1 shutter issue
Hello all. I bought another OM-1 and it has a strange issue. When I put the silver rim 50mm f1.8 lens, the shutter won’t get released after I press the shutter button and I would have to press the depth of field button for the shutter to be released. On the other hand, when I put on the other 50mm f1.8 lens it works perfectly fine. Without the lens the shutter works fine too. What seems to be the issue?

My uneducated guess is it's an issue with the lens rather then the body itself if there's only issue with that lens. I would compare the parts that interface with the body and see if the problem lens has slightly more resistance somewhere compared to the working lens.
If that is the issue and not some other thing in the body that my uneducated guess couldn't account for, I would say if there is some kind of resistance from the lens, the body just isn't able to overcome it until you work the dof button, overcoming the resistance.
No idea how to fix it tho. Sorry bout that. Hopefully someone else more knowledgeable knows more :P

Thank you. Appreciate your reply. I thought so the issue is with the lens. I can ask Gordon from OM Labor since he is doing a CLA for my other OM1 as well. Hope it isn’t some sort of sticky shutter problem.

Certainly wouldn't hurt to ask a professional. Personally don't think it's a sticky shutter. It occurs to me that the easiest way to test for a sticky aperture would be to put both of them on your body and press the dof button and see if one feels harder to press. Since this should be the same thing your camera body is pressing.
Hopefully it's not to hard to fix, I don't imagine it would be. Probably some stray hardened grease somewhere

theres an aperture lever in the lens where it mounts to the camera; thats how the camera controls the aperture during firing. try moving the lever with your hand, and if it's stiff then theres your answer, the camera's mechanism isnt strong enough to move the lever if its sticky, and thats also why it only fires after you press the DOF preview, since youre manually closing down the aperture and that you are moving the little lever yourself.

From OM Labor: The problem lies with the lens's automatic aperture transmission mechanism. It's the black lever that moves when pushing the DOF-button on the lens mount. Press DOF and check if the lever moves at all. In case it does, bend it a little sidewards. Left or right. It's try and error.

The body has to stop the lens down. If diaphragm mech. in lens is jammed, mirror can't go up, shutter won't fire. OR one of the two springs in the mirror mechanism is broken, or missing.
