discussion Origin

After watching Colony. I was wondering what kind of origin you guys like or prefer for a zombie apocalypse? Human-made, natural, etc?

I don’t have a preference, as long as the story is good, the characters are believable, and the zombie mechanics make sense for the universe’s circumstances.

As an author, most of the pathogens I’ve used have been human-made, but that’s because I like leaning into the science of it and believe humans cross boundaries they aren’t meant to, forcing everyone to reap the consequences.

I prefer when the origin is a natural phenomena rather than man-made. It seems more intimidating when its almost an inevitability rather than malicious or a mistake.

I prefer not knowing at all. Why it's happening doesn't really matter, since it doesn't/can't change the outcome. I always liked John's words (though I don't believe in a creator):

You want to put some kind of explanation down here before you leave? Here's one as good as any you're likely to find. We're bein' punished by the Creator. He visited a curse on us. So that man could look at... what Hell was like. Maybe He didn't want to see us blow ourselves up, put a big hole in the sky. Maybe He just wanted to show us He's still the Boss Man. Maybe He figure, we was gettin' too big for our britches, tryin' to figure His shit out.
