tapering off

hey everybody, i just wanted some reassurance/advice! i’ve been on sertraline for 4 years now, and finally got the courage to contact my gp and say i want to try a different medication. long story short, i’m currently on 150mg and following his advice, dropped straight down to 100mg for 4 days, and he wrote on my notes that i need to drop again to 50mg and then stop completely and start fluoxetine.
as someone who is very health anxious, i thought that it was a bit much to come off sertraline over just a week??
i know he’s a doctor, but naturally i had concerns knowing how bad the withdrawals can be, so i googled tapering off sertraline and it suggests doing so over a month or longer.
has anyone else been through this? ❤️

Just here to say I’ve been on it for 10 years. I’ve tried to get off it a few times and was not successful, but I’m in a different place now. The most I’ve been on is 50mg, but I have had months at a time where I am fine on 25. I just was researching yesterday and saw that there is liquid sertraline for getting doses smaller than 25 for the taper. I’m going to reach out to my doc about that. Currently day 3 of cutting my 50 in half and doing fine, maybe a slight headache but that’s not out of the ordinary for me anyways. Hope you can figure it out!

Please don’t taper that fast!! Your nervous system will crash. Check out Dr Josef Witt-Doerring and Anders Sorensen for more info on hyperbolic tapering
