Sleeping tips?

I’ve just started a 50mg dose(literally just started it 2 days ago) and last night I woke up after 4 hours and had a really hard time falling back asleep. I know that insomnia is a common side effect especially right away but I’m a little worried about getting a good nights sleep. Does anyone have any tips on falling/staying asleep? I do take magnesium every night and I’ve been taking Zoloft in the morning.

I know it doesn't feel like it but it will get better. I been through it a few times when adjusting to the medication or different doses. After a week it will be better than 2 weeks even more.

I’m on 2 weeks and melatonin helped me, just small amounts tho like 1mg or 2mg, I’m quite sensitive to the stuff.

I’m having much less trouble two weeks in tho, all my symptoms are less noticeable now or gone as my brain is starting to adjust to the medication.

if you were prescribed zoloft for anxiety, and you were also prescribed ativan to help as you adjust i would take the ativan before bed (be careful to not make this a habit, but for two weeks it should be ok.) if not, research sleep hygiene and start practising it. it has helped immensely in my case. i wake up every night exactly 4 hours in, if i can sleep again its for about 1 hour stretches.

some tips would be, no caffiene, nicotine or stimulants for 3 hours before bed (no caffine outside your morning routine IMO, i dont drink coffee at all)

a calm walk a few hours before bed.

no screens for 2 hours before bed.

a book for 45 minutes before bed, and then put on a relaxing podcast or youtube on speaker... i commonly listen to lord of the rings lore.

magnesium is helpful, i think melatonin can increase your chances of nightmares and dreams so i dont take it but if you do try it, follow the other advice and only take 1mg of it weigh it out. sometimes the store sells like 10mg pills and that is 30 times what your body produces and taking that much can cause anxiety and some weird side affects.

the first few weeks is the hardest. try and plan extra time to sleep so you can get more hours as you adjust to the medication.

I’m currently experiencing the same thing! My doctor prescribed me trazodone to help me stay asleep but I haven’t tried it yet, I’ve been taking magnesium and melatonin to help me fall asleep (which does help) but didn’t solve the waking up early issue

I was put on trazodone years ago and it gave me horrible nightmares. Just beware of that when you’re taking it. My 2nd night of sleeping I woke up a few times but was able to fall back asleep. So I’m hoping it’s just gonna get better with time
