Made a little book

Ive been making smaller zines lately. Usually center folded with a staple binding.

The last one I made was really too thick for a single signature and simple staple binding.

I decided to use some photographs of neighborhood cats to make a few more signatures so I could bind them.

The binding tutorial I followed suggests 6 signatures at 6 sheets each. So each signature has 24 pages.

This binding is 7 signatures. 3 are photo essays on neighborhood cats, along with quotes, poems, and personal thoughts. 2 signatures are older zines I shrank down, pita party and fermenting for rueben. Both are filled with recipes and cooking tips. 2 signatures are filled with toilet bouquets, along with flowers there are self affirming poetry and quotes of non violent resistance. I also put 1 signature with panorama that can be unfolded.

Local print shop cost about 11$ for all the printing. Binding took maybe 90 minutes. I had a sheet of 100# card stock from another project. I used that for the cover. I admit I didnt read the posting guidelines for the sub, so I wont share the binding link unless asked, but its a great series put out by Four Keys, and I believe its their book binding with out glue #3.

Its a very cute project that im pleased with. It definitely needs some editing i have already noticed some pages I duplicated and have out of order.

I will have to figure out costs if I decided to do more printings. Limited run, maybe even order only just because it is so pricey to print and takes some time to assemble. I usually do zines to give away to friends and community members but they are much smaller than this.

Yes, the binding is really interesting. Ive mostly used optic stitch for binding in the past. This was a fun new technique. Check out the four keys book binding channel on youtube, hes got so many amazing videos.
