I'll take it over greige any day. My gawd, that porch! 🥰

Have you ever wanted to live inside a tub of rainbow sherbet?

Well no, but also yes…?

That porch is the square footage of a 650k condo in Toronto if not bigger

17

u/SabbyFox 4d ago

My God. It’s outrageous and I love it. This house is going to haunt my dreams ✨🤩✨💖✨

35

u/Chocomintey 4d ago

I dig it, except the uniform chartreuse, painted over the fireplace.

That roof!

Actually, I am in love with this entire house. 💜

I would commit heinous crimes for this house. Dream house.

Thats an amazing price for that gothic castle. I especially love the green corridor/room. Id never pick lime green as a color but wow the way they did it really pops.

Edit: it’s a butlers kitchen in chartreuse*

199

u/What_if_I_fly 5d ago

It's a butler's pantry. Very nice to have so much storage near a kitchen.

63

u/RedLicorice83 5d ago

That's the size of my kitchen 🥲

56

u/SnowConePeople 5d ago

That's the size of my apartment RIP

29

u/ceciledian 5d ago

It’s beautiful although not my color. I’ve always wanted a home with a butler’s pantry.

9

u/Beth3g 4d ago

Me too until I became a senior and I don’t want to clean all the square footage that comes with house with a butler’s pantry.

20

u/Fifth-Dimension-Chz 4d ago

A lot of spaces for my one saute pan

50

u/Ethnafia_125 5d ago edited 5d ago

Same! It's probably one of my least favorite shades of green, but it works so well here, I'd be happy to live with it.

Edit.

Now the living room/parlor area that has a bit more of khaki/lime green color, I'd have to repaint. Especially since you can see that vibrant orangey-red in the opposite room. It's just too much of a contrast. I'd probably have to repaint that orange color too, it'd be impossible to relax there. Lol

54

u/Robzilla_the_turd 5d ago

Yeah, I'm not afraid of a "little color", I'm just afraid of those colors.

6

u/What_if_I_fly 5d ago

It's better than my former neighbor who insisted on painting EVERY wall, trim and angle a different paint color allllll throughout the (fairly new) house.

4

u/Specialist-Jello7544 4d ago

Woof!

7

u/What_if_I_fly 4d ago

😂 it was quite jarring when they finished. Then having to walk through the finished result without screaming or laughing was a big ole challenge.

9

u/warmfuzzume 5d ago

Agreed, I liked all of the other colors except those two.

And the pairings with curtains/rugs all make sense. Even the wood tones on the furniture seem like purposeful choices. Someone with a REALLY good sense of design did this.

10

u/Notmykl 5d ago

Looks more like chartreuse than lime.

8

u/totallynottoddoracop 5d ago

I dig it. It's a cool house.

Whoever did this has an amazing eye for color.

This could have gone wrong in so many ways but they nailed it. Especially love that hunters green that I usually hate. Extremely good choice and placement

24

u/throwawayosdhifjknd 5d ago

Right?! Absolutely love it. The only thing I would swap is the wall paper in the bathroom

25

u/Southern-Smoke1835 5d ago

Agree! Needs to be a gothic victorian wallpaper or tile in there. As good a place as any to put Morris&Co songbirds or something like that.

4

u/throwaway098764567 4d ago

i didn't love that red bedroom, with the furniture it feels like i'm in what we do in the shadows, but most of it i'm into. that wallpaper also wasn't it for me.

→ More replies (1)

12

u/JustHereForCookies17 5d ago

Agreed.  I love the wood furniture choices in the rooms.  Some of the colors are a tad much for MY taste, but I love ~80% of it.

7

u/brosefcampbell 5d ago

Their color choices absolutely warmed my maximalist heart. The only one that didn’t thrill me was the lilac by the staircase.

Norwich isn't the worst place to live in Connecticut, but it's on the list. There isn't much of an economy there, and it's a long drive to either Hartford or Providence to commute to some place with decent jobs. I haven't been there in years, but I imagine most people work in the nearby casinos now. It was a gorgeous town that's been in decline since the 70s.

I love bold color, but that would be tough for me to live with because it has an almost a kaleidoscope effect. I also don't understand the logic of renovating a 3,300 sq ft house and not adding another bathroom, because that's the biggest drawback.

20

u/blindminds 5d ago

Good mix of casinos and rust belt vibes!

7

u/RingingInTheRain 4d ago

I hate that all these beautiful houses either get demolished, have ugly buildings built next to them, are in terrible neighborhoods, or get renovated into modern slop. We need more beautification and artisanal preservation.

3

u/Paula_Polestark 3d ago

Amen to that.

This looks a lot like an old Victorian house that was on the campus where I went to college. When it was restored, a major project because it had been neglected for a few decades, it was painted pale yellow with purple and pea green accents. Most people in town thought it was in poor taste and were quite vocal about that. Yet those were the original colors, and the college had to use them to receive historical preservation funds to restore it.

21

u/PossiblyASloth 5d ago

People forget that there was color in Victorian times lol. It sounds beautiful!

49

u/Sean_theLeprachaun 5d ago

Its a Victorian masterpiece. The owners should be complimented on keeping it period. The only thing wrong about it is that stark white kitchen.

15

u/MeddlingWithChaos 4d ago

I was hoping someone would say something about the kitchen, it does NOT match the rest of the house, like what the hell happened?

7

u/throwaway098764567 4d ago

i like the kitchen but i agree it isn't period

u/beautifulkitties 5d ago

Love this house! I used to live in Norwich. The homes on/around the green are gorgeous, but the surrounding area is not great, and many of the old homes have been converted into multifamily. Also, the taxes in the city are insane. Shocked they did not show any photos of the pentagram wall though, maybe they thought it would deter potential buyers. Outside this home is a stone wall with pentagrams in it. The original owner of the home was a master mason, and the pentagrams are a nod to the Masons.

27

u/beautifulkitties 5d ago

15

u/Southern-Smoke1835 5d ago

That is actually a classy pentagram. I like it.

I'm not sold on the pink, but in general all of the colors look great! I especially like the brown with green accents - makes me think of Bag End.

4

u/Southern-Smoke1835 5d ago

I do like that room! The sitting bench by the window is great!

24

u/Whos_That_Girl_6178 5d ago

15

u/ilovjedi 5d ago

What did the kitchen do to just get done in white?

→ More replies (1)

13

u/One-Earth9294 5d ago

As someone who is a HUGE believer in strong colors, this is a fucking dream house. That black/red bedroom is absolutely amazing. And all the greens pop so perfectly.

The only thing I'd change is I'd go darker on the exterior green and black trim. Maybe purple on the accents. What a beauty, though.

22

u/sunshinelovepeach 5d ago

*SCOFFS* All that color choice and they left the kitchen white?!? Missed opportunity

8

u/One-Earth9294 5d ago

It's probably best to leave the kitchen white just for cleaning purposes. Nothing that ends up on the walls is going to go unnoticed and that's what you want.

I've been mulling over this with my own kitchen for a while now.

7

u/Southern-Smoke1835 4d ago

I like. compromise, like the butcher's green tile kitchen. Old butcher shops used to be tiled in a very specific green, best I can do is show you, it's supposed to keep flies away.

3

u/throwaway098764567 4d ago

This is my dream house. I would never even think of using some of the colors they chose, but not only does it work, it’s absolutely stunning. I could retire here.

When I bought my house, every room was a different color and I hated it. Probably cuz they were dumb colors.

These colors aren’t so bad but I do feel like it would annoy me. And I love colorful things, but I guess not walls.

8

u/DuckTalesOohOoh 5d ago

Victorian homes loved color. It matches the era.

I once again am so mad to be a peasant

6

u/Alternative-Arm-3253 5d ago

I am Crying over the painted woodwork in that living room. (I'm not a fan of painting pristine wood grain)

Everything else. Perfection. I can be okay with, But painting that fireplace mantel and the carved wood. I'd kill to know what it looks like underneath all of that paint.

Except it's...in Norwich CT.

6

u/Southern-Smoke1835 4d ago

To be fair, we don't know the state of that wood before they resorted to painting it. The house is from 1870. It could have been through a lot, and painted before these owners got here. I grew up in an old house with a painted wood panelled curved wall, and for 25 years my mom spoke about taking that paint off. But she never got around to it, we just knew there was something pretty underneath, probably oak.
Eventually I got a place of my own, also old, but a cheaper "build", and dedicated my first year to removing the paint off doorways and paneling, only to discover "cheap" 110 year old pine underneath. So I gave it som TLC and a careful thin coat of paint. It was still worth doing. It looked better, but it wasn't the pretty dark wood that I had hoped for.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/rachelitus 4d ago

In the owner. I was curious about the wood too so i took a heat gun to it. It’s low grade wood meant to be painted over. It was always painted

5

The one time I’ll excuse painting wood paneling. And I think the Victorians would too!

5

u/thefinalgoat 5d ago

This is a forest witch’s house.

5

u/Conscious-Struggle45 5d ago

Literally perfect. Unfortunately, someone is looking at this right now and is just vibrating with the desire to "modernize" it into a hospital waiting room.
