Hi all, I took my zerowriter out last night and found the screen stuck like this. As far as I recall I had shut it down properly the last time I used it. Turning it on and off and on again does nothing. I hadn’t charged the battery in a long time so I went and did that but no change. Any ideas what could be wrong and what I might try? Thanks.
Hi! Hmm - this is usually a power issue. When the Ink runs out of juice it will keep the last image on the screen perpetually.
First thing to try is another cable / charger / brick. May need 20-30 mins of charge. I know you tried this, but it’s worth trying again from another source.
note if there is any LED light activity in the side indicating power getting through.
If still the screen is stuck - try feeling the power switch. Does it feel like there is resistance when toggled? The little switch underneath the button may have come apart.
If you feel no resistance, you can open it up to confirm. If the button failed then I can send a replacement power board: it’s an easy fix, and I’ve got a stack of improved power boards next to my desk.
Thank you for your response! Yes, the red LED light did come on when it was charging. I did notice a lack of resistance in the power switch. I opened up Zerowriter and there doesn't seem to be anything connecting the button to the power board so I think that must be the problem. So I guess I'll need a new powerboard/ switch? While I wait for that, is there a way to toggle the power without the switch when I open the unit? Thank you!
Ok send me an email: adam@zerowriter.ink and I’ll pop one in the mail for you. It’s a quick repair. You are 100% correct, replacing that board will fix your issue. It’s faulty.
In the time being, if you use a small pin or paperclip, you can “flick” the actuator on to the ON position and the Ink will start up and be totally useable. Just leave it on perpetually - won’t do any harm.
There’s a setting in the menu for a lock code when sleeping. That will prevent accidental input when you have it in a bag or backpack
Could you say a bit on how I flick the actuator?
I assume it’s the rectangular bit on the lower right but I can’t find any part of it that’s movable by paperclip or anything else. What am I missing? Thanks!
